Fun to read loved it!

I liked how you structured each chapter from a different character's point of view. It makes things clear and easy to follow. I enjoyed the plot and it was not predictable so it kept me entertained and kept me reading. Well done.
Your characters were interesting and relatable. They felt familiar.
It could feel a little like telling here and there instead of showing, but you balance it with engaging and evoking the senses of the reader. I think that takes quite a bit of skill to do. So again great job.
I would like to see more of this. I felt a little deflated at the end. I wanted more, I wanted another chapter. So that is a huge compliment. When a reader wants more it means you are doing it right. I recommend this book definitely.

Lucky I don't own a painting

This was a great read.
First, the tension is fast-paced and the character development is even faster. I am not sure of the total word count, but I do think you can truly dive into this story and make it bigger. Much much bigger. It's a great read.

Few points I would slow some of the tension down in some areas, it is hard to keep up and you lose that scary edge if you go too fast. Imagine someone showing you a knife or holding it to your neck. The showing is scary, and the holding is terrifying. So I would drag it out a little.
The dialogue between the two main characters is great, and I can feel the love there. What I think you could do with them is contrast the inner dialogue of the "Mom" more with her words spoken to "Dad who does not want a ghost son".

All in all, this is great. I would actually spend money on buying this book. You did a fantastic job!

Delighted

I adored your book. I am going to read it again. Why? Well for starters it's like a favorite pair of snuggly tops. You have to wear it over and over even read it till it's threadbare. I have books like that on my shelf. Books I read over and over because they speak to something inside me.
That's what this is. I am a little old to be in feeling with the characters, but I forgot that completely. I ended up going on this journey and discovering and exploring and just when I think I know where you are going to go with this plot you turn 180 and surprise the heck out of me!
I loved it, loved it, loved it. You are a great, fantastic writer. Highly recommend this book.
I have a nice long holiday coming up, so I will see your page and your books a little later again.
Great job and thank you so much for writing this book, and sharing it like this. It was a privilege to read.

You touched me from far away and years apart

Dear Rachel,

I checked you are 26.
You live in another country so far away from my home South Africa.
I am so much older than you.
I don't read poetry.

Tonight I did. This is what I am going to write to you: I am sorry It is not a review.

I remember when I was young and I dreamed of a world, of love, of a future.
I remember swimming in the river with my friends.
I remember getting married.
I remember when my daughter was born and I held her for the first time.
I remember how scared I was of doing something wrong.
I remember the feeling of my son inside my big belly when he came along.
I remember burying a daughter of my heart when her life should have just started.
I remember watching my kids grow up.
I remember the day I got told I had cancer.
I remember the day my hair fell out.
I remember the big operation where I was left with scars so big and empty places where my babies grew.
I remember the loss of my beloved dog and my beloved rat only a few days ago.
I remember the day I got my job.
I remember my kid's first days at school.
I remember everything.

Tonight I am sad, for many reasons. I am tired of working. I am tired of struggling. I am tired of a body that is older and has pains and does not work as well as I wish it to. I am sad because I have menopause. I am sad because not enough people are reading my book. I am sad because tomorrow I must hold my daughter's hand when they put her dog to sleep. She has had the dog since she was 4 years old. It will hurt her.

Then I read this. I read your work. You speak to me. You spoke to the child I was, to the teenager I used to be. The young woman with a brand new family. The woman who once did not know the names of chemo drugs. The woman who knows all these things and has had all these experiences.

I am a stranger, and so are you, but in this work, in your words, you have bound me and you together. Do me a huge favor, and go out to your family and tell them. Go to your friends and tell them. Go to the spaces where you are alone and scream that you are the spirit of a writer. You are a poet, you are incredible. I have no idea how someone so young can reach so far, but you did. All the versions of the woman I am and all the choices that have led me to this moment, are eternally grateful to you for this gift. This is not a book. This is a spiritual gift of memory and it is exquisite.

I can not review this. This is beyond a review, this is more. The words to speak of how amazing this is, I don't have those words. All I can do is go sit outside in my garden and be grateful I encountered you.

Thank you forever.

In awe

I was grateful that you updated me that this was part of a series and not a stand-alone book. Thank you.
However, I was reading it as a stand-alone, and it works great in that way.
I quite enjoyed not really having much of a physical description of the characters, just a smattering here and there. The reason for this is, the characters came off so strong and clear that I had very definite pictures of each in my mind. They became real to me. That takes some doing. Often a story especially a love story that does not follow the normal boy meets girl, overcoming some obstacle and happy joy joy formula, can feel distant. This is definitely not the case with this book. I know it is not completed, and I would love to read the rest.
So your characters are truly well-developed, full of personality, and very distinct.
The plot line is a romance, obviously, but it is not a typical romance. It has elements of family relationships, parental drama, and family dynamics, it's difficult to place this book as only a romance. It is so much more.
I was a little disturbed by the odd "parenting" but it actually fits into the story very nicely. This is surprising because it does challenge the most stereotypical understanding and views on parents and family structures. Yet it works.
The skill you show in crafting this story, the complexities, and the multiple levels of story within a story are incredible. You make these things work and blend sex that is definitely for a mature audience with a ease and expertise that I envy. I learned from your writing and I feel that by having had the privilege of reading your work I am better for it. So thank you. Thank you very very much. Keep going, don't ever stop. You're very good.

Impressed and interested

The story was a little abrupt at first. I was lost but caught up. I did not realize it was sci-fi at first, so that was my confusion, not you. The characters are very interesting, I adore the pet cat. I feel that the contrast between the 'world' and the forest should be more emphasized, it will make it sharper, with more edge. however, that is simply my opinion. The only thing that was a bother was the capitalization.

That being said, this has a very interesting storyline, one that makes you curious about what comes next. I hope there is more soon. You have something in this story, it has the feel of an epic journey. A revelation almost biblical in feel. So my honest opinion is this is very good and I love it.

This could be a full epic novel

Your character's emotions came through very clearly. The storyline is excellent. I would love to see this developed into a full novel, you have all the ingredients for a bestseller in my opinion. It's dark, it's gritty, and it pulls you in. It feels like you are sitting at the desk with them listening in on the interview. It feels as if you were in that mall as if you also need to understand what would motivate someone to do this.

The trick for me is, that people do not always do things for a reason that most of us can or will understand. Sometimes the fire or rage or hunger that burns in them is something so alien to most of us that it is impossible to truly understand why someone does something that dark. Yet we are attracted to it nonetheless. You have all of these elements in this story. It is a brilliant read and a brilliant story.

You have an edge to your "voice" as a writer that comes through and it's unique in my opinion. I hope truly hope I will get to see this as a full-length novel. It has unlimited potential. You are an exceptional writer. Great job.

I love romance, kids and a kick ass guy

I enjoyed this book very much. I would recommend it to every romance reader i know. This is so much fun to read. I was confused about the child's age a few times. New born to toddler timeline felt slightly confusing. I wondered what happened tot the baby until you mention daycare. That got me wondering if there were other families and kids.

All in all this is a great way to relax, unwind and fall into a story. What more could a person ask for?! I loved it. Great job.

No woman should stay. Ever.

This is a powerful story. I am hoping she leaves him. Lots of women don't. Or they go back. It's horrible but unfortunately, it's the truth for so many.

I think you have a tremendous story here, that if might be the light for a woman battered and broken somewhere. You have to finish this. You must. It is just too important not to write.

That said, this needs to be approached with the sensitivity of a saint. It is difficult for people not trapped in this situation to understand why someone would stay. This might make them question her as a character. You have shown tremendous feelings and depth to her already, I can see the development happening. The other side of it is that we want to see the male in this situation as a monster, but they are human too. It does not make it right, but it's important to show him and his motivations also. Why is he so jealous? Why does he isolate her so much? Why is his family not assisting her?

Will she leave? Will this job and her new friend give her the strength and the courage and the means to get out? How will her new employers react when they realize she is in an abusive relationship?

So many questions! So much I want to know more! You have such an important story here, you also have a tremendous talent as a writer. I just finished reading the Crying Boy and now this one. I can see you are gaining in strength and your voice becoming more powerful as a writer.

You have something here. Please don't stop writing. It is too important, you are so good and I am dying to read what happens next! Excellent work.

Unexpected little gem

Hi, I try very hard to read the work of each person that follows me or adds my book to their reading lists and especially for those who comment or review my own work. I go as fast as I can. So I got to your story today.

I know it is raw and there is a lot of work for editing there, but the bones of a truly wonderful story are in it. I think you might have something that you can turn into magical in this story. I don't know if you know or are already a member but NANOWRIMO is kind of a place where you could take this story you have here and turn it into a full novel. If you are not a member of NANOWRIMO go check it out and sign up. This story deserves to be written it is that good.

That being said it is important to look at spelling and grammar and such. Me I suck at those things because English is not my first language so I use the editor called Ginger. It is great and helps me with finding mistakes and it also suggests how to rephrase a sentence or how to restructure to long sentences. There is sometimes more power in breaking a sentence down.

I do hope you keep writing this story I would very much like to read it fully developed!
Great story!
Good luck you can do it!

Very nice work, I like your story arc there are some small spelling and grammar issues nothing major. I feel a connection to your story even though I think your target audience is for someone a little younger than me. I recommended your story to my teenagers for a read. They enjoyed it immensely. So good job!

They felt engaged and they identified with your characters. As one of my kids said, its like they are the group of friends that hang out next to my group of friends.

And to tell you the truth, getting teenagers to put stuff down and read your story is an accomplishment on its own you can be very proud of!

Hiro

War is not an easy story to tell, the horror that happens cuts all, Whether we want to acknowledge it or not. The things that happen in war can break us in ways we could never imagine. This book crafts the heartbreak of war in the first chapters. It sweeps you along and makes you weep in sorrow for what man will do to each other in the name of war.

The pain nearly unbearable when this book takes you on a second journey that speaks of love. Of acceptance, of forgiveness or healing. Read this, it will remind you of humanity at its best overcoming and not bowing down to humanity at its worse.

John K Sutherland, this was a remarkable book. Thank you.

The Millenium Wolves

There is this little thing known as work. Terrible thing a person must engage in to ensure there is food on the table and a roof over your head...

Then I started your book and forgot all about work. In fact, this is so good I would live under a tree and eat grass as long as I could read more of it! It is wonderful. There are a few typos but not much, mostly there is just brilliance and hotness and well yumminess. Thank you for writing this I feel privileged to have read it!

I would buy this book and put it on my bookshelf with pride and re-read it with pleasure many many times.
Well done!
