A promising start

I think any good book should follow a basic formula--introduce your characters, expand your world, then push the plot forward with motivation. The first two chapters get close to this, but I'm struggling with where we are. All I know is that Noel and Leon watched their dad die, which certainly moves the plot along, but I almost feel as if it comes out of nowhere. I think if you immerse us in the world a bit more, we'll have to time to absorb the seriousness. Another option is to start us right at the dad's death.

I look forward to more chapters, and seeing if I get some of my inquiries answered.

Keeps you poppin'!

Well, I can honestly say I never read a story about a popcorn salesgirl quite like this one!

I think the main character has some fascinating quirks and ambitions. I can't seem to get much of a sense of her personality, though, other than struggling working girl. Her work seems to give potential for more exciting adventures for her and I hope to see those expand in later chapters.

Overall, a fun little story, and like the popcorn she sells, it's airy and sweet.

Tart and satirical

I was impressed with the narrative of the book. I have only read the first chapter, but it's done wonders for world-building and character development. I would dare say it's more interesting and engaging than the source material.

My black mark is only for the extended amount of description. I was hoping that the action would move along a little faster. It's minor, but noticeable.

Overall, a terrific read, and I will work my way through the entire book. Great job!

There's something there...

I like the build-up to some of the elements. We're already getting a sense of the protagonist's abilities by the third chapter. The flow is natural and the characters have some gravity to them.

Sometimes it's a bit difficult understanding who's speaking. I was also a bit troubled by how nonchalant the teachers appeared when discussing student safety.

I'll try to get more into the story. Keep up the good work!

Great world-building

I found the idea of the modern world infused with elements of magic and fantasy an intriguing concept. I remember a movie, I thought unfairly panned, called Bright that had similar elements. Rather than trying to encompass the overall concept, the author takes the football and makes a small-scale story about this one person living within this world and playing by its rules. I look forward to future works from the author.

Well worth a read

Even in the depths of space, the author manages to inject humanity into his story. I have already read the first two chapters, and I can say that the story is engrossing and compelling. The characters feel as if they are fleshed out and have proper motivation. I look forward to finishing up the book.
