Look, I'll be honest, I wrote this book and I wrote the sequel. So clearly I think it's great.

Enid Blyton-esk

A very sweet book aimed a younger than my usual tastes and hits the mark very well. The story surrounds childhood friends as they meet and grew up together in a post-war coming of age story.

The language is at times a bit repetitive, and I spotted the occasional dropped word, but I'm also very guilty of that in my own writing. If I could give one tip to the author it would be to read it out loud.

But I don't regret reading this book at all, it's a lovely bit of period escapism, Enid Blyton-esk, and I particularly liked the father Mr Pennington. Well done.

First book I ever wrote

I wrote this book when I was 19. Do with that as you will.

Considered my best work

Many of the people who've read all my books agree that Counting Sheep is the best thing I've ever written.

Incredibly charming.

What a charming book this is, I like the way the story comes together, the pacing is very good and I think the characters are really well done.

I agree with the other review the technical writing needs a bit of polish. It's not a deal breaker.

For what my opinion is worth, I would highly recommend the author read the work out loud during editing, as it's a good way to pick up on the small blocks in the stories flow. I personally, also put my stories into a text to speech program and listen to it to try pick up on where these breaks are.

But that's just a suggestion, over all it's a good read and a nice world that's being built.
