Immensely entertaining

I read 'Slippered!' over the last few days in only a few sittings because I was so sucked into the story that I didn't want to put it down once I started. It's very well-written and funny, with multiple characters and intertwined plots that kept me guessing as to how they were all going to connect up. When they did I was not disappointed with the result- it's very well plotted so that everything comes to a head in a satisfying manner.
The characters are all really distinct and I had a strong reaction to all of them and was invested in the outcomes across the board - most importantly of all, I was very entertained and amused by all the goings on (I couldn't help rooting for Slipper and his dastardly plan!) and really happy with the ending. A great read!

Great Read

From the moment I started 'Hleo' I wanted to keep reading, I was hooked instantly & had lots of questions - that were all answered in the course of the story. It took me a while to finish the book because I was busy with other stuff but it was on my mind the whole time. The construct of Hleo is brilliant, I loved the strong plot, thrilling action, strong characterisations and gripping writing style. The characters are all likeable (even a certain one that I won't name because of spoilers - is likeable until a twist reveals his evil nature.) I cared about them all and the constant threats to Hannah's safety made for a nerve-wracking read! Its perfectly set up for a sequel and I really hope one is on the way because I'd like to read it!

Epic Fantasy

This is a hugely ambitous and epic tale with massive amounts of world - building and the creation of multiple countries/regions. I particularly enjoyed the fortune-teller Larissa and the exploration of future predictions - the magic element added a really interesting dimension to the story. (As did the reapers, that was creepy!) It was thought - provoking how each community is designated by visual appearance and also how I found my character allegiances changing constantly! All the characters are complicated and have issues - Dominic in particular (without putting any spoilers, toward the end of the novel) does some fairly awful things and I was rooting for different characters alternately. I enjoyed how its not simple 'bad'/'good' but shades of both on either side of the conflict. Anti - heroes are fun! very entertaining!
