kill your darling kinda review
I started reading this book, hoping to find a new adventure, maybe learn about other cultures, but I ended up wide eyed with disbelief and sometimes cringing. I pray to the god above that you realise that this is a very toxic relationship you're portraying in this story. It's degrading to the muslim women who suffer from being stereotyped in the media as oppressed and weak. It portrays non muslims as pigs which is not the case. Even if we swipe aside the cultural and religious/not so religious aspect, it's harmful to insinuate that it's okay to be abused mentally, emotionally and sometimes physically in the name of love. In a romantic story, I look for consent, mutual respect (even if disagreements and power struggles are needed to spice up the story). I look for a woman who respect and love herself enough to stand for herself and impose that others treat her right. I look for a decent man (not necessary a perfect gentleman, but at least give me a reason to like him, the fact that he's rich and handsome is not enough). I urge you to reflect on your story and ask yourself what's the message you're sending to your readers (especially young girls who are still looking for a model to be inspired by). I hope you don't consider my review as a hate message (I've no problem deleting it if you ask me to). I genuinely see a potential in your writing. You have a good sense of humour and the premise of the story is promising. Good luck with your journey, and I hope to read future works from you that really reflect your true culture and rich heritage.
