I hugged my dad against me as he wrapped his arms around me. He sighed and kissed my head. It was nearly dawn and Dad and Tanya had just gotten done packing. I had walked in on him and Tanya and Sebastian talking about something quietly. I assumed it was about me because as soon as they saw me, they hushed up and Tonya and Sebastian excused themselves.

“What about her mother?” Tonya had asked him. “Was she…”

“No.” dad had answered with a sigh. “I knew… from the beginning…” that was when Dad saw me standing in the doorway. “Baby Girl?” he stood up from his place at the table and came over to me. He looked at me worriedly as he took my face in his hands. “You’re burning up.” He whispered as Tanya and Sebastian quietly left saying they had things to do. “How are you feeling?”

“Soar.” I shrugged. “Like everyone thinks I am slightly crazy now, and I have this strange feeling in my stomach that possesses something that likes growling at me. I think It’s hungry.” He chuckled and pulled me into a hug…

“I love you Baby Girl.” He mumbled into my hair as we continued to stand there in the embrace.

“I love you too Daddy.” I whispered into his chest. “When do you leave?” he was quiet a moment before answering.

“About an hour.” He answered and I nodded. “It’s okay Sam. In about two weeks you will be there with us, safe from all this here.” I nodded again, not trusting my voice to not crack and betray my weakness. Instead, my stomach showed its weakness and growled. It was loud enough that Deric heard it as he walked up behind me and started laughing. So did Dad as he pulled back and kissed my forehead before (as if realizing it was Deric who had laughed) he stopped laughing and looked at Deric as he went into the kitchen and started grabbing things so that he could…

Did he know how to cook?

If he does, then the man just became super, super, SUPER hot. Said Lana and I laughed with agreement. If he could cook then he had certainly made it onto me top ten. Top five sweetheart. You don’t have ten. I rolled my eyes but sighed. I knew she was right.

“Stop talking to yourself Sam, it’s weird.” I glared at Deric as he glanced over his shoulder at me. He smirked and my eyes narrowed. “Sit down. What do you want to eat?”

“I don’t think I want you to cook me anything. You might poison me.” I said but I sat down in one of the chairs as Dad left the room. I knew that Deric wouldn’t. He was here to protect me. It would be very counterproductive for him to poison me if he was trying to protect me.

Then again, stranger things have happened.

He looked at me a moment and I looked into his eyes, but quickly looked away as I tried to hide the shiver that ran down my spine. It didn’t work well, so I tried to play it off as I was cold, which I kind of was. I ran my hands over my arms and then quickly pulled my fractured hand away from my arm. “Ow.” I mumbled and stood up. I went over to the counter where we kept all the medicine and looked for the ibuprofen.

“Your medicine is right here.” Deric said as his arm reached past my face, startling me into baking into him. His arm wrapped around my waist, as if on instinct, and I breathed shakily as he held me there a second and then stepped back. I swallowed and then turned around to look at him. “Sorry.” He looked at the bottle of medicine in his hand instead of me, a strange look on his face, and then handed it to me as he looked up. Slowly, I took my medicine and set it on the counter. “I didn’t mean to startle you.” I nodded, avoiding his eyes now, and continued looking for the ibuprofen.

“I was actually looking… for this.” I said quietly and pulled it out. I set it on the counter while I went over to the cupboard and tried to grab a glass from one of the shelves, but as I did, pain shot through my side and I grabbed it as I cried in pain. In the process of bringing my hand back down, I knocked a few glasses down and they came crashing down to the floor and shattered at my feet.

“Whoa.” Deric wrapped his arms around my waist, which hurt worse, but (at the same time brought me some comfort) I was glad that he had caught me before I hit the ground. I leaned into him and breathed hard as he held me up. “What happened?” he asked me softly.

“I-I don’t know.” I gasped and he sighed.

“What happened?” Dad ran in as Deric led me over to my chair.

“Ow, ow, stop, OW.” I pulled my fractured hand to my chest when Deric let go. He looked at me a moment before he slowly, gently, pulled my hand back away from my chest. I flinched but didn’t pull my hand away when he started unwrapping the bandage around my hand.

“I have her.” Dad said. Deric looked at him and I thought I saw a bit of anger cross his features before he looked at me and then nodded. He went over to the counter as dad finished unwrapping my hand to look at it. I heard the glass crunching under Deric’s boots as he went over and got a glass out of the cupboard and filled it with water before he brought me the Ibuprofen. He opened it and I held out my free hand. He poured a couple in my hand and hand I tossed them in my mouth before I took the glass of water and downed the pills. Deric then went over and started cleaning up my mess as Dad looked between us.

“Thank you.” I whispered and watched him a moment, not sure what else I should do. He looked at me and smiled a little with a small nod and then went back to cleaning up the glass and I looked at my Dad, who was looking at me with a confused look. I looked away quickly. “What?” I mumbled as I looked at my bruised hand avoiding my Dad’s eyes. It was harsh, though I didn’t intend for it to sound like that, it just came out that way.

“Sammie?” he scowled and then looked at Deric. I looked at him and scowled as Deric looked at him too. He looked at little confused like me and then he tensed. He looked away quickly and that just confused me more as Dad let go of my hand and ran his over her face. “Well then.” He sighed and looked at me and then Deric. “Baby, when you get to Scotland, since I don’t have time right now, we need to talk.”

“O-okay?” I looked at my father and then at Deric who was tense still and had paused what he was doing to listen, but his back was to us. Things got quiet again and Deric went back to cleaning up the mess. Dad was rewrapping my hand and when he was done, he looked at Deric’s back again.

“When you are done cleaning that up, I need to talk to you Deric.” He nodded still not looking at us and I didn’t know what to think. Why was he so tense? What was going on? What did Dad have to talk to me about? “I’m going to go help Tonya and Sebastian load things into the car…” that was when Deric turned and looked at him. They watched each other a moment and dad must have understood something that I didn’t catch because he nodded and kissed my head before he left the room and left me alone with a tense and quiet bodyguard.

This was turning out to get weirder and weirder.

“Bye Daddy.” I whispered as he held me close to him. We were standing outside beside the car and the sun had started turning the sky a greyish color as it started coming up. He held me a little tighter as he spoke back to me.

“Bye Baby Girl.” He murmured in my hair then he pulled back to look at me. He took my face in his hands and his brown eyes looked into mine. “I love you so much. I know that I was never the best for you before, but I will do so much better when we are all in Scotland okay. I will be ten times the father I should have been before.” I smiled sadly and nodded. “Baby… do me a favor… and for the next few weeks… try and keep an open mind on what happens around you.” I scowled and he smiled sadly. “I can’t explain right now, but when you get there, I will tell you whatever you want me to.” Slowly, I nodded and he kissed my head before he pulled my back into his arms and hugged me one last time. “I love you.”

“I love you too Daddy.” I said and did my best to squeeze him without hurting me, which didn’t really work, but it was okay. “Be careful please.” He nodded as he pulled away and stepped back and let Tanya hug me. “Both of you.” She chuckled and pulled back to look at me.

“We’ll be fine.” He touched my cheek. “We will call as soon as we land. You be good and try not to get into any trouble.” I scoffed and she laughed a little. “Right. Be good.” She looked at Deric as Sebastian got into the drivers seat. He was taking them to the airport so that he could bring the car back when they leave. “Take care of her.” Deric touched my shoulder and I looked at him (a little startled) as he nodded and then looked me.

“You look like you are about to fall over.” He said softly as Tanya looked at him then moved for the back seat. She got in and closed the door before Sebastian smiled at us and pulled out. “You need to sit down.” I watched a moment longer as they went down the street and disappeared around the corner. “Come on. I’ll cook you something to eat while you sit down and watch something.

I wanna watch him. Can we watch him? I laughed at Lana and she muttered something I didn’t catch even though it was a voice in my head and Deric looked at me confused.

“Lana’s being funny again.” I stated and he raised his brow at me. I smirked and turned toward the house.

“Oh really?” he said as he followed me inside. “What did she say about me?”

“You’re a nutt.” He stopped and looked at me as I sat down on the couch. I grinned and grabbed the remote off the coffee table. I turned it on and leaned back so that I was laying down. I rested the remote against my stomach and went through the channels before I found something to watch. There was nothing I really wanted to watch, not even what I was watching, but Twilight was much better than Barnie.

“Wow. Typical teenage girl.” Deric laughed and I looked at him.

“Would you me watch Barnie?” I questioned. “It’s either this or that. This is slightly better than a singing dino, not by much, but better.”

“So you aren’t a big vampire fan eh?” he questioned and I laughed.

They’re like human cats. There is nothing special about them. Leaches and a menus is what they are. Not to mention, not even real. Lana stated grumpily and I laughed again.

“Lana is right.” I said out loud. “Vampires are like human cats.” I stated when Deric raised a brow at me questioningly. “Leaches and a menus, nothing special about them. Not to mention, not real.”

“So you and Lana… aren’t believers?” he questioned with a smirk. I simply laughed again. “What is your perspective on werewolves then?”

“The closest thing that would resemble a werewolf that is real…” I said with a smile. “…is a type of wolf called the Alaskan Malamutes. Beautiful creatures really, but that is the closest thing to real werewolves. What people in now days deem werewolves anyway. Personally I like the Dracula version better. While wolves are beautiful and majestic, the creatures of that book were just plane ruthless and uncontrollable. They had their human bodies bit were covered in fur.”

“You are the only girl I have ever met that would ever say that.” Deric said quietly as he watched me closely.

“What do you think?” I asked. “How do you think a real werewolf would look?”

“It’s not the look that you seem to like.” He laughed a little. “But in behavior, roughly what you said.” I looked at him and then the screen in front of me as Edward jumped into the back of Bella’s truck, scaring her. “Now vampires…” he scoffed. “…not like them…” I looked at him and laughed. “They do not sparkle in the sunlight, they burn, and though garlic does not poison them, it does not go down well when ingested. Wooden stakes through the heart do not kill them, a silver stake does. New vampires are hard to control and do sometimes have to be ‘put down’ when they can’t get under control. The vampire who changed them is their ‘master’ or ‘sier’ and so on and so on…” I just stared at him. “What?”

“Do you think about this often?” I smirked and he narrowed his eyes at me.

“Call me an expert on the supernatural.” He answered. “When I was younger, I had a fascination of the supernatural and did a lot of research. A lot of it stuck with me.” I nodded, not quite sure I believed him, but I would let it slide. “What do you want for breakfast?”

“I’m good with just cereal.” I stated and he nodded, then left the room to go make me some cereal.

The front door opened and Deric and I turned our attention to it. I groaned when I saw Terry and Andy standing there instead of Sebastian. They weren’t exactly who I wanted to see. Not that I didn’t like them or anything, it was just that I wasn’t in the mood to get picked on by my brother’s friend.

“Sammie!” Terry grinned and I looked at Deric. He raised a brow at me and I looked back at the boys again. “Do me a favor Princess and tell me where Sebastian in please.”

“He took Dad and Tanya to the airport. He’ll be back later.” I said as I turned my attention back to the Tv. Apparently they were having a Twilight Saga Marathon and there was nothing better on than this, so we were still watching it. “…and stop calling my ‘Princess’, it’s rather annoying. A lot like you if I do say so myself.”

“But you love me!” he exclaimed as he came over and made me sit up, then he flopped down beside me, causing me to bounce and land almost on top of Deric. I groaned and grabbed my side as he caught me so I wouldn’t just fall to the floor. I leaned my forehead against his shoulder, feeling the sudden urge to throw up and I moaned.

“Sorry Sammie.” Terry touched my back and I flinched away. He drew his hand back quickly and I shuddered. “I forgot you were…” he sighed. “How do you feel?”

“Like I need to punch you.” I breathed as I slowly pulled away from Deric and leaned against the back of the couch between them. Andy sat down on the floor and gently (so he wouldn’t hurt me) pulled me into his lap. I leaned into him as he leaned into the couch and went back to watching the stupid movie.

Terry was Andy’s older brother. He was six foot two and had the same build as Sebastian. His eyes were a caramel color that almost looked gold in some lights. He was eighteen, like Sebastian, and was actually going to start college with Sebastian in about three months. They were going to some college in Alaska or something cold like that. They had gotten some kind of scholarship for something I didn’t even know. Normally, it would have been bad that I didn’t know where my own brother was going, or for what, but he literally refused to tell me anything. He’d said that I would find out sooner or later, but not right now.

While Terry was annoying and loud and obnoxious and couldn’t shut up sometimes, he was kind and knew how to make you feel better when you were down. All he had to do was mess up big time on something he was doing and you’d normally laugh until you cried.

Now Andy on the other hand, was a lot like me.

He was quiet, yet knew how to be extremely sarcastic when the time was right. He loved reading and enjoyed writing his own things. He was sweet and protective, and let’s face it, he was hot, but kind of an older brother figure, except he liked me and was a year older than me to the day. I’d be fifteen in a few weeks and he would be sixteen that same day.

Andy had the same caramel eyes as his older brother and was almost as tall standing at six foot even. While Terry’s hair was blonde, Andy’s was nearly black like mine. He had a bit of muscle and I enjoyed catching him from time to time with his shirt off when Sebastian and I were over at their house and obviously he didn’t mind me seeing. By no means at all, was he shy. He obviously didn’t need to be. He had a great looking body for someone who was almost sixteen…

Andy moved my hair away from the right side of my neck and ran a finger over one of the long cuts that ran down over my shoulder. He pushed my sleeve over my shoulder so he could look at it then he started to kiss the cut. He kissed along it until he reached my upper neck, then he took my face in his hand and made me turn it so he could kiss my cheek. He moved along my jaw and when he finally got to my lips, I let his soft lips guide mine.

“Behave you two.” Terry said when Andy pulled away some to look at me. He stroked my cheek with his thumb, his caramel eyes searched mine and I saw what looked like hope in them. Maybe hoping that I’d say yes to me being his, but when I said nothing, he sighed and put his forehead to mine. “Just because Sebastian isn’t here doesn’t mean I won’t enforce the rules around here.” Terry said, his voice changing slightly when he looked down at us.

“I’m glad you are okay Sammie.” He kissed the top of my forehead and then I turned back around so that my back was leaning into his chest. I closed my eyes as he laced his fingers through the ones on my good hand. His other hand was pressed against my stomach as he wrapped his arm around my waist. “I don’t know what I would have done if you weren’t.”

“Don’t worry about it now.” I murmured. “I’m fine. I’m soar, but I am alive, therefore, I am fine. Okay? So you don’t need to worry about that.”

“I worry about you.” He put his lips to my ear. “When I heard what was going on through the speaker, I was scared. If you had died… part of me would have died with you Sammie. You are my best friend and I can’t lose you. Even if you won’t date me, I can’t lose you… and I am going to miss you so much when you are gone.”

I sighed and squeezed his hand softly. “I’m going to miss you too Andy.” I whispered as he put his forehead to the back of my head.

The front door opened and Sebastian stopped when he saw Andy and I and as if he realized it was only Andy holding me, he sighed and closed the door behind him. I shuddered as the cold air hit me from outside and Andy’s arms tightened around me as Terry stood. Andy’s arms left my waist and he rubbed his hands over my shoulders and arms. I turned and curled up in his lap and he wrapped himself around me to keep me warm.

I now had an Andy “Blanket”.

That is kind of funny if you think about it. I giggled a little at Lana and Andy pulled back to look at me a moment.

“She talking to you again?” he asked me and I nodded as I felt the heat rise on my cheeks. He chuckled and stroked my hair behind my ear. “Good. You aren’t you without her.” I rolled my eyes and he grinned. He lowered his lips to mine and I closed my eyes as Sebastian groaned.

“Andy!” He started and Andy pulled away with a laugh. I rolled my eyes again and lay my head against his shoulder. I was starting to get tired now as he held me close to him. He leaned back against the couch and a blanket was placed over me. I pulled it close and curled around Andy with the blanket. “Sammie…” Sebastian sighed. “You need to be laying down. Dr. Rick’s orders, you know that.” I groaned and then sighed myself. I knew he was disappointed and didn’t want to, but Andy stood and then lay me on the couch so that I could lay flat (which really did feel a little better, but Andy was warmer than the couch) and kissed my forehead.

I closed my eyes as he sat back down in front of me. He leaned his head back against my stomach and I placed my hand in his hand ran my fingers through it as I started to doze.

Let’s just say, I didn’t make it to the end of the third Twilight movie before I was asleep.
