Chapter 7 - Introductions

I moved away from my home in Greensboro, North Carolina when I was fifteen years old to Nashville, TN, home of the Grand Ole Opry. It actually turned out to be a pretty cool place and luckily, we lived only about a quarter of a mile from the boat ramp. I was a pretty happy kid at that time. I had realized back in North Carolina that I get bored with people pretty quickly so I was ready for a move. My best friend Mark just wasn’t fun anymore after Bryan had disappeared and all so I was ready to get out of there. We had just moved in the house in Nashville a few days before and I was mowing the yard like I always had to do. About that time, my two, “soon to be best friends”, walked up to me and introduced themselves.

Hey, my name is Tobin and this is George. Welcome to the neighborhood!” Tobin said as I was shutting down the piece of crap push mower I had come to hate from having to use it so much.

Hi, good to meet you all,” I said. “My name is Daniel.

So where you from Daniel?” George asked.

“North Carolina.”

“What part?” Tobin asked

“Greensboro,” I replied.

“I never heard of that city. What’s in Greensboro?” Tobin said.

“Well not my ass anymore. There is just a lot of fucking tobacco and a lot of weed.

“You get high?” Georgie asked. Georgie is what he went by I soon found out.

“Doesn’t everyone?” I said raising my eyebrows.

Oh yea”, Georgie said, “He’s gonna fit in real nice here.

You want to go get high?” Tobin asked.

Does a bear shit in the woods wherever he wants?

Yea, I guess they do.” Tobin said as they both laughed.

Then hell yes I want to go get high. I have to finish mowing the side yard and I will be ready to go.” And from that day on, the three of us became the best of friends; well that is, until the accident. Terrible thing how accidents can happen…
