Ring! Ring! Ring!

Damn, the phone’s ringing again. I shuffled through the thick sheets and carelessly fumbled to reach up for the phone. When I found it, I quickly pressed the answer button and held it in between my ears.

“Yes?” I answered, not even bothering to know who it was. I couldn’t care less. It was in the middle of the freaking night.

“Oh, you’re sleeping already?” I recognized the voice and grumbled. Harry. I should have known it’s him. Who else will be calling me at this time of night other than him?

“Yeah, surprise?” I answered sarcastically and he just snorted.

“A little. So, we heard that you’re in Italy right now to do some business, right?” He asked.

I looked up the window of the hotel I’m staying in. “Yeah. I’ll be here for six months.”

“Are you going to look for him then?” He asked again.

My head immediately throbbed after hearing his question. “What the hell? You called me in the middle of the night just to ask that?”

“Yes.” He answered flatly and I cursed at him.

“No. I’m not gonna meet with him. I have a lot of important things to do and seeing him is not in my to-do list.” I answered and Harry laughed.

“Oh come on, it’s been five years. You surely want to see him, right?” Harry pushed on.

I got up from the bed and turned the lampshade on. I grabbed the box of cigarette on the night table. “I told you, I’m not interested. Besides, I moved on already.”

Harry stayed silent and sighed. “Okay, I get it. Sorry I bothered you man.” He said before hanging the phone. I shook my head and threw the phone on the floor before lighting the cig and propping it in my mouth.

“Good morning Mr Harrison.” My secretary greeted me as soon as I entered the office. She gave me the folder for my next report. “Here’s the current report for the next annual salary of the HR department.”

I nodded and sat on my chair to look at it. The numbers still remained the same but a lot of employees already resigned. I sighed and rubbed my temples. “Liza, how many people resigned in the HR department?”

Liza looked up the ceiling to count. “Uh, probably around 15 sir.”

“I want to see their files.” I said and she immediately exited the room to get it. I opened the mac on to continue my work. I reread their entire resignation letter and thought that all of them had the same reasons for resigning.

I leaned on the chair. They all said that it’s their time to quit their work because they need to find a better position in the company. They also said that they were overqualified to their current jobs and it’s a waste of their opportunity to remain in the company.

There was knock on the door and Liza appeared.

“I’m sorry sir but the people from the exec. Dept. said that the files are private.” She said.

“Huh? What for?” I asked but she shrugged her shoulders. “Okay, thanks.” She smiled before excusing herself to continue her own work.

“You know, seeing you look like that makes me horny.” I looked up to see Tom in front of me holding a plastic bag in his hands.

I smirked at him and put down the folder I was holding. “Good to see you too.”

“Yeah. I bought food.” He held out the plastic bag and laid it on the table. “Chicken strips. Your favourite.”

“Gee thanks.” I said and he smiled. He leaned down towards me to kiss me on the lips. I smiled at his kiss and responded to it by wrapping my hands around his head to deepen it.

“You know, I never tried fucking you here.” Tom mumbled and I sneered.

“Because I don’t like having mess in my office.” I answered.

Tom shrugged his shoulders. “That makes sense.”

While eating, Tom looked at me and smiled. “By the way, you wanna go to the party later?”

“What party?” I asked and he chuckled.

“See, you don’t even know what’s happening around.”

I slumped down on my chair and gave him a dead look.

“There’s a farewell party for Terry tonight.” He said and I nodded.

Oh yeah, Terry’s the latest employee who resigned. I just read his file. “Ah, okay.”

“So, are you coming?” He looked up to me, silently hoping that I say yes.

I gave in and laughed. “Fine, but I need to leave early. I still need to get ready for the presentation tomorrow.”

He punched the air while laughing. “Yes! I’ll see you there then, babe.” He took our empty plates and threw it in the trash bin. He turned to face me give me a flying kiss and finally left the room.

I sighed and clutched my chest to feel the necklace underneath my shirt.

“Don’t call me babe, dammit.”

Dawn approaches and it’s finally time for everyone to leave work. I turned the mac off and gathered my things to fix it. My phone suddenly beeped and I read the message.

‘Don’t forget the party @ Club 21.’ –Tom

Oh shit, I completely forgot about that. I loosened my tie and took off my blazer after leaving the room and bidding goodbye to some people who were still in the vicinity. I ran towards the elevator and pushed the button for the ground level. I leaned on the wall, patiently waiting for the lift to take us down.

I grunted silently when it stopped on the second floor. Several people entered and the air suddenly became tight. I sighed and looked around to see people wearing formal attires.

I gazed to the right and saw a familiar black hair around the crowd. He was standing behind me so I can’t see his face. I smiled to myself and shook my head. Geez Earl, you told Harry that it’s over and you already moved on but you can’t stop hoping that you’ll bump into him again.

The elevator door finally opened and all of us squeezed to get out. I got out of the lift but suddenly froze when I smelled a familiar scent whiffed through the air.

It feels like time temporarily stopped as I turn around and saw the one person I never imagined to appear in my life again.

Matthias Blaise.

I watched him get on the elevator. He was wearing a black suit but his coat was unbuttoned and his tie was crooked. He yawned for a moment and cursed when a random person bumped into him.

I can’t take my eyes off of him. I mentally whined when the elevator door was about to close because I still want to confirm if it’s really him.

I gasped when he finally looked up and I saw those piercing brown eyes looking straight at me.

And then it’s gone. The elevator door closed and I was left there, standing in the middle of the bank, mouth wide open like an idiot.

It took several minutes before I recovered from what I saw.

Now I know how it feels to suddenly see your ex after a long time appear in front of you like that.

It’s worse than seeing a ghost.

I gulped and slowly walked towards the exit. Question clouded my mind like, ‘What’s he doing here?’ or ‘Is he following me?’ or ‘Does he still love me?’.

I shook my head to erase the thoughts. Of course he doesn’t love you anymore, Earl. He clearly told you that, five years ago, right?

But somehow, a faint spark of hope began to rise from deep inside.

That maybe – just maybe, Matthias still loves me.

I stepped out of the cab and quickly entered the bar. I glanced at the signage and sighed. The loud music immediately greeted me. It was dark and the only lights on were the one from the disco ball hanging on the ceiling, flashing different rays of color all over the room. I bumped into some people but I didn’t even bother to apologize. When I saw familiar faces from one of the tables near the dance floor, I walked up to them.

“Hey.” They all looked up to me and greeted me.

“Hey there boss!” One of them greeted and made space for me to sit. I sat down and put my bag on the floor.

Tom stood up from where he was standing and sat beside me. “What took you so long?” He whispered since we can’t really hear anyone because of the loud music.

“Oh, something came up.” I said and he scowled.

“You look pale.” He commented but I smiled to convince him nothing’s wrong.

“Ah yeah, I kind of run here.” I muttered and good thing he didn’t hear it.

“Forget about that. Let’s just eat.” He said and grabbed some of the food on the table to make me eat. “Here.”

I smiled at him. I don’t really have the appetite to eat. Tom excused himself to go to the toilet and when he was gone I grabbed the bottle of vodka and drank it.

Few hours later, I was the only one left in the table and everyone was already on the dance floor dancing to the beat of some rock music I don’t even know. I put my fifth bottle of beer and watched Tom dancing with some of our co-employees. He wanted me to dance with him but I refused since it’s embarrassing to do something like that.

I looked at the table and noticed that all of the beers were empty. I stood up lazily and walked towards the bar to order more. I felt dizzy and it feels like the room’s spinning but I forced myself to walk towards the counter. I sat down on the stool and leaned on the table.

“Scotch whisky.” I ordered to the mixer and he nodded. My head still feels dizzy and I think I’m gonna throw up. But I still can’t forget about Matthias. I thought that drinking might make me forget about that bastard but I still can’t.

“Here sir.” I saw the glass with the familiar liquid on it and smiled. I took it and drank it in one gulp. Oh shit, that’s better.

“Hey.” I looked beside me and saw Tom already sitting on the stool. “What’re you doing?”

I smirked at him and held out the empty glass. “Drinking makes me horny.” I giggled and I heard him sigh.

“Stop drinking already, Earl.” He was about to take my glass away from him but I swatted his hand.

“No!” I spat childishly and smiled at him.

Tom shook his head. “Seriously Earl, stop drinking, okay?”

I pouted, put the glass down and put my hands on Tom’s lap for support. “Tooooom, I LIKE you!”

Tom snorted. “You’re drunk.”

“No I’m not!!” I kissed his lips sloppily and giggled when he put his tongue inside my mouth and we kissed for like an eternity. He finally pulled out and stared at my eyes.

“Shit.” His eyes were clouded with lust and I smirked.

“Tom!” Terry appeared behind his back and grabbed his arm. “Come on man! Dance with us! The ladies are waiting!”

“W-wait, I – ” He finally pulled Tom away from me and I whined.

I thought we can have sex here but shit.

I ordered one more and drank it again in a second. I paused for a moment, feeling that familiar numbness on my stomach. I quickly stood up but it only racked me to the edge before falling down on the floor. People near me approached me to help me stand up but I shook my head and pushed them away. I trotted towards the comfort room to empty my stomach but when a random person bumped me hard, I puked down on him and they all screamed in disgust.

The man I puked on grabbed me on the shirt in anger. “You fucker!!” I looked up amidst my dizzy eyes and saw the guy holding me. Oh shit, he’s a big one.

I tried to push him away but I don’t have the strength anymore. “Let go of me!” My words were slurred but he held me much tighter to make me choke.

“You think I’ll let you go just like that?! Si sporco cazzo! [ You dirty fuck]” He screamed on my face and I can smell the alcohol in his breath.

I shut my eyes. The music in the room was slowly fading away but I tried my best to be awake. The one thing I felt was that I was thrown on the table and I hit some of the it on the way. My back hurts like hell and everyone was screaming.

I stood up but dropped down to my knees. Fuck, I want to puke again.

“Non ho finito con te!” [ I’m not finish with you ] The guy charged towards me and I watched him in horror. God, he’s gonna kill me with that fist of him.

I readied myself to the impact but a body blocked me from the pain I was about to feel. I looked up and saw that familiar back I always dreamt of hugging.

“You know, you should really pick your own size when you fight.” He said. I crawled beside him and saw his face.

Indeed, it was Matthias.

What the hell? Was he following me? This bastard. The guy growled and lifted his arm to hit Matthias but he quickly evaded the attack “Seriously, don’t you ever learn, people?”

I stood up and pushed the big guy away to face Matthias. “What’re you doing here?!” Oh shit, what the hell am I doing again? I wanna give him a piece of my mind and take it all out.

Matthias blinked at me. “Now’s not a really good time to talk.”

I glared at him. “Yeah, really?! When’s the good time then, ha?!”

“What the hell are you doing?!” The man asked from behind me but I glared at him.

“Shut it!” I spat on him and he was taken aback. “Can’t you see I’m talking to my ex you fucking idiot!”

I heard Matthias sneered behind me. I faced him again and glared hard.

“ I – ” Matthias looked behind my shoulder and suddenly pulled me behind him. I cursed under my breath and shrieked when I saw the guy already in front of Matthias ready to strike him again.

Matthias sighed and quickly kicked the man in the guts before he could even strike a punch on him. He dropped down on the floor, wincing in pain.

Everyone was watching us in awe but I don’t really care right now. I pulled his arm to make him face me.

“Are you following me?!” He was about to answer but I cut him off. “Oh yeah, you’re following me you fucking bastard!”

He opened his mouth again to say something but I beat him into it. “What do you want?! Make my life like a living hell again?! You left me like a fucking moron and now you’re appearing again?! JUST LIKE THAT?!”

Matthias stared at me and I panted from what I said. “Finish?”

“Oh no! Not yet! I’m not even starting!”

Matthias raised his brows and pulled me again to the side. The man suddenly dropped on his knees and loudly cursed.

“Cazzo. [ Fuck]” He pulled the man’s hair and forced him to stand up. I shivered when I saw that familiar dangerous glare of his. “Can’t you see –” He closed his fist and grabbed the man on his shirt before throwing him across the room. “– that we’re talking?!”

We all watched the guy land on the floor, breaking the tables and chairs near him. He moaned in pain and remained lying down on the floor. He probably passed out. Who wouldn’t anyway?

“I hate you so much you bastard! How could you do this to me?!” I punched him on the chest knowing that it won’t hurt him anyway. “I hate you! I hate you! I hate you –” I screeched when he suddenly grabbed me in one swift motion before throwing me over his shoulder. I continued to thrash around him but he slaps my butt to make me stop. I shrieked again.

“Fucking pervert! Let me go!” He carried me down the hall and everyone was watching us with wide eyes. When we were out of the club, he continued to walk towards the parking lot.

“Put me down you bastard!” I can feel the tears in my eyes. I can’t let this happen. Not again.

Because I know that if he looks at me straight in the eyes – I can’t stop myself from falling in love with him again.

He abruptly threw me inside the car and climbed in next to me. I panicked and crawled towards the opposite door to exit but the door immediately locked.

“Guidare. [ Drive]” Matthias commanded the man from the driver’s seat. Next thing I knew was that we’re pulling out of the driveway.

“Don’t you dare do this to me.” I taunted him but he just raised his brows.

“I’m already doing it.” He said with a smirk.

“I swear I’m gonna jump out of this car.” I taunted even more and he just gave me an amused smile.

“Be my guest then.” I glared at him and faced the door to unlock it. I cursed when the handle of the door remained lock.

I turned to face him again. “What do you want?!”

He crossed his legs and shrugged his shoulders.

I stared at him. He still looks so freaking handsome like he didn’t even aged a little bit. The only thing new to him was that he grew bigger and taller than before. He still has a lot of piercings but he’s not wearing any earrings. There’s a tattoo on the side of his neck but I can’t clearly see it because it was being covered by his collar shirt.

He noticed that I was staring and looked down at me with a satisfying smile. “You’re staring.”

I swatted my head away from him. “You wish.”

“You’re not a good liar.” He mumbled and when I turned to face him, he was already close to me. My heart stopped for a moment. His eyes were staring straight into mine. I can see the light shade of his brown eyes and it looks so damn beautiful.

“I –” My lips were trembling and I forced myself to find the perfect words to tell him what I’m feeling but I can’t seem to find them. He leaned much closer to me until our lips were inches away.

“I know you still want me.” He whispered in that oh so sexy voice that I always wanted to hear. I shivered and closed my fist to stop myself from being mesmerized by him.

“I – I don’t.” I finally said. He cupped my chin with his hand to make me look at him. Oh God, not again.

I felt his cold hands caressed my arm and it feels so good to be touched by him again. He tilted his head and licked the side of my neck. He sucked it and I moaned in satisfaction.

“Matthias I –” I need to stop this. I don’t want to fall again. I won’t let myself.

We stopped when my phone suddenly rang. He stared at me before cursing and pulling away from me. I silently thanked whoever it called me. When I saw Tom’s name, I quickly answered it.

“What happened to you?!” He asked. I can still hear the faint music of the club.

“Oh, I went home already. I told you I still need to do my report.”

“Someone said a man took you away. Are you sure you’re alright. A fight happened here and…”

“Yeah, I’m fine, Tom. Thanks for asking.” I gazed at Matthias who was glaring at me. I gulped. “Look, I need to go. I don’t really – feel good.” I finished.

“You sure you don’t want me to come by?”

“Yes, I’m sure.”

Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow. I love you.” I froze at what he said.

“Yeah, bye.” I put the phone down.

“Your boyfriend?” He asked and I slowly nodded.

He snorted and he crossed his legs again. “Sounds like a jerk.”

I glared at him. “Why do you care?”

Matthias looked at me before looking down on my phone. He quickly pulled it away from me.

“What’re you doing?” I watched him open the window and my eyes widened in horror when he threw my phone out of the car. “What the fuck?!”

He closed the window and glanced back at me. “What?”

“Do you realize that you just threw one of the most important things in my life?!”

“Do I look like I care?’ He asked and I growled at him.

“You’re still the same fucking bastard I knew.”

We stayed silent for a moment. “Where the hell are you taking me anyway?”

“My place.”

I looked at him in disbelief. “And what makes you think I want to go there.”

He glared at me and I twitched in fear. “Because I said so. Stop complaining.”
