CHAPTER 29

“He’ll be standing behind it and you only get three tries to shoot the target,” Hiro added, grinning at me. “Easy game, right?”

For Clark, maybe! But me? What if I shoot Clark and I…I kill him?!

I was suddenly feeling dizzy. If anything were to happen to him because of me…

“I - I can’t,” I muttered, backing away from Hiro.

Hiro’s smile vanished.

“What? It’s a simple game. If you win, I’ll agree to being allies with you.”

Clark wasn’t saying anything and he doesn’t seemed to be nervous about me shooting him.

“And Paige gets to play too,” Hiro said, patting Paige’s shoulders. “Besides, guns are Clark’s favorite toy, right, baby boy?”

Clark stared at him. He ignored his snide remark and went towards me.

“What do you think?” he nonchalantly asked.

“What do I think?! I think I’m going to kill you!” I blurted out, throwing my arms in despair. “What if I miss and hurt you?!”

Hiro was watching us silently.

“Drew,” Clark tried calming me down but I couldn’t.

“I can’t…I can’t do it, Clark…I’m…you know I’m not good enough with guns, you saw me!”

Clark held my shoulders.

“Drew,” he called again, “you’re gonna be alright.”

I gaped at him.

“What?”

“I believe in you. I chose you for a reason. Prove to Hiro that you’re gonna be the next leader of the Orlov,” he said, squeezing my shoulders.

I was stiff, hundreds of what-if’s going in my mind. I stared at my hands. It was nothing compared to Clark’s. He was experiences in this kind of thing but I’m not.

Looking back at the table where the guns were, I walked towards it. I could tell Hiro was observing me and it wasn’t helping me calm down.

I turned around and faced Hiro.

“I wanna use my gun,” I said.

He smirked at me.

“The little boss has a gun. Impressive,” he said, “okay. Use your gun.”

“Thanks.”

Clark ordered Isaac to get me my gun and he walked away from us to do what he was told. While waiting, Hiro and Paige decided to play.

I watched Hiro walk to the target on the left side and stood in front of it. Smirking at Paige who was holding a gun, he cocked his head to signal him.

Paige lifted his arm, aiming the top of Hiro’s head and firing the gun without flinching. The gunshot echoed and I was awed to see how Hiro managed to shoot the target on top of Hiro’s head.

Clark smiled proudly at Paige and for some damn and irritating reason, I felt jealous. Paige was definitely stronger and better than I am and the bond that he shared with Clark, I don’t think I could top that.

The anxiousness was eating me alive but I tried not to let anyone see it. I’m here because I wanna save Georgy and make my father at least proud of me.

Hiro came back with a proud smile, just like Clark’s and he hugged Paige.

“You’re getting better, aren’t you?”

Paige grinned. He put down the gun and hugged Hiro back.

“Drew,” Isaac called and I turned around to see him holding the box that dad’s gave to me as a gift.

He opened it and I saw the silver gun inside. I took it out and remembering how Clark demonstrated me how to put it all together, I clumsily did. Putting the right pieces in its right position, I managed to finish it.

Clark and Hiro were staring at me.

“I’m…I’m ready, I think,” I said, biting my lip and looking back at the nervously.

I stood in front of Clark who was meters away from me. He stood still, looking straight at me without blinking.

Staring hard at the target above his head, I swallowed the stuck saliva in my throat.

I can do this.

I can do this.

I can do this.

I raised my arm and it was shaking so hard, I couldn’t aim properly. I was so close to crying because of the stress I’m feeling but I kept my feet on the ground. I didn’t want to embarrass Clark.

I saw Hiro smirking at me, openly mocking me for my amateur skills. Paige was standing beside him, silently cheering me.

I took a deep breath, pulled the safety off, steadied my arm and pulled the trigger. I shot the gun way off the target and everyone was quiet, not commenting how bad I was.

“That’s okay,” Paige said, nervously grinning at me, “you still have two shot, Drew!”

Hiro didn’t say anything and was just observing me with those piercing eyes.

The second time I did it, the bullet grazed Clark’s side. He didn’t flinch but I paled, realizing what I had done.

Hiro whistled and Paige had a worried look.

“Clark,” Paige called, holding Hiro’s arm, “he’s hurt…!”

I panicked, seeing the blood staining his dress shirt but he kept his stance, just looking at me with calm eyes.

“Clark!”

I was about to run to him but Hiro prevented me when he walked towards me, a smirk evident on his face.

“Damn, that’s a close one, Orlov,” he teased, putting an arm around my shoulders, “make sure to get it right, you don’t want Clark dying, right?”

I shuddered.

“I - I don’t want Clark to die,” I mumbled, feeling the tears about to fall off.

“Then do your best and shoot the target above his head. If you can’t do it, I won’t accept your offer and,” Hiro added, leaning towards my ear to whisper, “I’ll get Clark from you.”

I felt a spark inside me, igniting an emotion that I usually don’t use. I snapped my head at him and glared hard.

“He’s mine,” I said through my gritted teeth.

Hiro was taken aback but grinned almost immediately, his hand squeezing my shoulder blade.

“Prove you’re worth of Clark’s abilities. He’s not someone who should waste his skills for a brat,” he teased, pulling away from me and getting back to Paige’s side.

I thought deep and hard about what Hiro said. He really had the intention of getting Clark from me and I need to do everything to make it not happen.

Clark’s mine.

I raised my arm and pointed it at Clark who was patiently waiting for me to gather my wits.

“Listen closely, Drew,” he whispered in my ear before biting it, “you’re the only person who made me act like this. If you wanna be with me, you have to know that I’m not the kind of man who can make you happy. I’m very possessive and it might break you. I’m going to hurt you and if you try to run away from me, I’ll lock you up and hurt you even more but in return, I’ll be yours. I’ll be faithfully yours, forever, Drew. Are you fine with that?”

“Yes,” I said to myself, nodding, “I’m fine with that, Clark.”

For the third and last time, I pulled the trigger and shot the target above Clark’s head. I managed to hit the middle part, only missing it a couple of centimeters away from the white.

I smiled in relief, sighing out loud to release the anxiousness I’ve been feeling. Clark walked towards us, smiling at me.

“You’ve done it, Drew,” he said, arms spreading wide, inviting me for a hug.

I ran and hugged him tight, fighting the tears from coming out of my eyes. I’m so happy he gets to stay with me.

Clark’s not going anywhere.

Hiro clapped, gaining both our attentions. We looked at him and there’s a sarcastic smile pasted on his face.

“Well, isn’t that amazing,” he said, smirking at me, “it only took you three tries and you even hurt Clark.”

I gasped out loud, tearing myself away from him to see the injury I caused. He was bleeding on the right side of his waist and I was almost close to fainting when I saw how big the stain of blood was on his shirt.

“Clark, oh my god! I’m so…I’m so sorry!”

Isaac approached Clark and said, “it’s better to treat your wound immediately, boss.”

“It’s just a graze,” Clark said, brushing off Isaac’s worry for him.

I held his arm and stared directly into his eyes.

“You have to treat your wound, Clark! Now!”

He sighed and nodded.

I patiently waited for Isaac to finish treating Clark’s wound. It might not be a big deal for him but not for me. I didn’t want Clark to feel hurt, especially if I’m the one who caused it.

Isaac backed away from Clark after putting a non-stick gauze to cover his wound.

“I’ll get you a new shirt,” Isaac announced, leaving the clinic inside the Blaise mansion.

“Are you okay?” Clark asked out of nowhere that I stared at him for a while, confused to why he was asking me that.

“Yes, I’m okay. You’re the one who got shot…because of me. I’m really sor -- ”

“Stop apologizing,” Clark said, interrupting me, “I told you, it’s not like this is the first time I got shot.”

“That’s true.”

My heart almost jump out of my chest when Hiro suddenly spoke behind me. I turned around and saw him walking towards Clark, sitting beside him as he crossed his legs.

“What?” Clark exasperatedly asked, giving Hiro a glare.

“I’ve seen him get shot countless of times,” Hiro said, smirking at me, “if you were there, you’re gonna have a heart attack seeing him covered in blood.”

I furrowed my brows.

“I…I don’t wanna see that,” I mumbled.

Hiro stared at me.

“You know, you remind me of someone,” he said.

I blinked at him and said, “Lucas?”

He smiled, nodding.

“Yeah, that guy. You know him?”

“I don’t but people have been telling me I resemble him.”

Clark was silently listening to us.

“Too bad he’s out, he’s one hell of a monster,” Hiro commented, shaking his head.

What does he mean by Lucas was one hell of a monster? I don’t know anything about this Lucas guy but everyone seemed to think that he was a scary dude.

Hiro stood up and faced me.

“As I promise, I’ll be your ally. The Blaise will now officially work with the Orlov. All kinds of business will be open both for our countries,” he said, smiling at me, “are you glad, Drew?”

I nodded but I couldn’t pull a smile.

“I guess…I mean, I’m only doing this for Georgy,” I blurted out but as soon as I did, I regretted it, “a-and of course, for my dad too…!”

Hiro scoffed.

“Georgy, huh? Let me guess, Clark used that guy to blackmail you into going here, huh?”

Clark rolled his eyes and asked, “blackmail?”

“Yeah, because there’s no way this guy will go on his own here,” Hiro explained, “but whatever, all ends well, now let’s eat. I bet Paige is hungry.”

“You can go on ahead,” Clark said, “I have to talk to Hiro.”

I was reluctant but nodded nevertheless.

“Okay.”

I got out of the room and met Isaac who came back holding a shirt. I let him enter the room and saw Paige standing a little far away from the clinic.

I approached him. He had a worried expression and when he saw me, he gasped.

“Is Clark alright?” Paige asked.

“Yes, he’s alright,” I answered, “he just said it’s nothing. I can never say that if ever a bullet graze me.”

Paige sighed in relief.

“That’s good. I don’t like seeing them hurt.”

I smiled at Paige. I don’t know what he’s been through but I could tell he was a good guy.

“I’m glad we’re friends, Paige,” I said and he looked at me, tilting his head.

“...you’re glad…you’re friends with me?” he slowly repeated, blinking innocently.

“Of course, I don’t have a lot of friends and I’m glad you’re one of them,” I said, grinning at him, “I hope we can still be after we leave.”

Paige stared at me and I saw his eyes getting teary, a sign that he’s about to cry.

“I - I don’t have anyone but Hiro…” he said, pouting at me, “I’m glad too…that I have you now, Drew.”

I felt the pain in his voice and it hurts. My body move on its own and I found myself hugging Paige. He felt so soft in my arms, like a marshmallow and his smell, it’s so sweet.

He was about to hug me back but the door behind us opened, revealing Clark and Hiro. I quickly pulled back away from Paige and nervously laughed at the two men.

Hiro smirked and said, “looks like you two are having fun, huh?”

Paige hugged my arm and grinned at Hiro.

“I like Drew, Hiro!”

I gaped at him. Was it alright to let his boyfriend hear him he liked someone else?! I was expecting Hiro would punch me on the face and pull Paige away from me but he only smiled genuinely at him.

“Let’s eat, Paige. You’re starving, right?”

“Yes!”

I guess…that’s being mature in a relationship.

We were having dinner, talking randomly about stuff when a man suddenly barged inside the room.

“We’re here!” he screamed out so loud that Paige screamed from surprise.

“Motherfucker,” Hiro cursed under his breath, glaring hard at the man who was marching towards Clark.

He had a brunette hair, tanned skin, had a huge build and was wearing casual clothing.

“I missed you so much, Clark!”

Clark stared at him nonchalantly before he put his arms around him for a hug. I gaped at them in disbelief.

Who was this man and why’s he hugging Clark?!

“Can’t you enter the damn place without making a scene?” Hiro asked, standing up to pull the man away from Clark.

“Oh, come on, Hiro! It’s been so long since I last saw you guys!” he said before waving a hand at Paige, “hi Paige! Aren’t you getting cuter, huh?”

Paige smiled at him.

“It’s been a while!”

“I can’t believe you just run off and left your things,” another man appearing by the door said and he had a similar face to the one who was clinging at Clark.

“I’m excited, I’m sorry!”

Hiro held his head and groaned.

“I think I’m gonna have a headache,” he muttered.

“Hey!”

We all looked at the woman who followed soon and there was a younger boy behind her with a strict, poker face, holding what I assumed was her bag. This woman, she was way older than everybody here and had a face that looked exactly like Hiro’s.

Damn, she’s gorgeous. I wonder who she was.

“Ms. Maria!” Paige excitedly called, standing up to run towards her.

I saw them hug and Maria had a loving look on her as she kissed Paige’s head.

“It’s been a while, huh?” she said, smiling at Paige, “I missed you, Paige.”

“I missed you too!”

I lowered my head and stared at my lap. I’m feeling out of place. Maybe I should excuse myself?

“Now,” the guy who first entered the room put his arm around my shoulders and grinned, “who’s this boy?”

I saw Clark’s eyes sparked in danger and for a second, I got scared, thinking that he’s going to rip this guy’s throat off.

“Clark’s new fuck buddy?” the guy suggested, raising a brow at Clark.

“You better take your hand off of him,” Hiro warned, smirking at the guy, “Clark is serious about this one.”

He looked amused, nodding his head at Hiro. Finally, he pulled away from him, putting his hands on his waist.

“Really? Well, I guess we’re going to have a lot of fun, huh?” Reaching out to shake my hand, he said, “I’m Anthony, by the way.”

I took his hand and stiffly shook it.

“I’m…Drew,” I replied, faking a smile at him.

With an eerie grin, Anthony said, “I hope we’ll be good friends, Drew.”
