Chapter 12 - Cade
Cade climbed out of the cold stream, followed by his pack brothers. They were finally clean of the blood that covered them. They had come across four rogues, and it had gotten messy. Zach suffered a shallow cut to his side, but other than that, they were fine.
The rogues seemed to be separating more, and it bothered him. He knew there was still a group of about a dozen out there, but they couldn’t find them. They were sending wolves out on their own, and the scents were throwing him off. He needed to find the bigger group, and he needed to find it soon.
They headed back to camp and changed. Shane roasted some deer meat over a fire, and they filled their rumbling stomachs. Cade loved camping out, they never used tents, so he laid on the ground and stared at the stars. He missed Tansi more and more each day. He worried about her leg, and hoped it was healing okay. He fell asleep, dreaming of his pretty little mate.
The next morning he woke restless. He couldn’t take it any more, he had to see Tansi. He talked to his pack brothers, and they agreed that a day could be taken. They decided to all go, as they didn’t want to separate. There had been four rogues together the last time, and they didn’t want to take the chance of one of them getting caught alone.
They packed up, and hiked back to where they left their SUV. It took only a minute to stow their gear and get on the road. Two and a half hours later, they were pulling up to Tansi’s cabin. As they parked and got out, a wolf appeared on the porch, carrying Tansi’s rifle. He had it pointed right at them.
“That’s far enough, you can get back in that SUV and head right back out of here,” the man he assumed was Brandon demanded.
Cade was about to respond, when the cabin door opened and Tansi came out. She was slow, but when she got to Brandon she hit him with her crutch, and pushed past him. Brandon cursed and grabbed his leg, while Tansi made it to the edge of the stairs.
Cade flew across the yard and hurried up the stairs. She dropped her crutches and jumped into his arms. He caught her and spun her around, causing her to giggle in happiness. After a minute, he put her down and gave her a long, deep kiss. She sighed, then kissed him back.
When they broke apart, Cade looked up to see Brandon watching them. “Cade, I presume,” he stated.
Cade nodded and moved over, shaking Brandon’s hand. “Brandon, its good to meet you. Tansi had told me some about you. Thanks for looking after my girl, I appreciate it. Hopefully, this job will be over soon, and I can stay for good.”
“Well all she talks about is you,” Brandon told him. He looked at his mate, and she had a pretty blush creeping over her cheeks. “Maybe with you actually here, she’ll stop saying your name every five minutes.” He cursed as Tansi smacked him on the back of the head, causing Cade and his brothers to laugh. He was pleased to see they acted a lot like brother and sister.
Cade introduced his pack brothers to Brandon, then they all went inside. It was decided, his brothers could stay upstairs in the loft, as he planned to stay the night. They all got along well, and there was lots of laughter and companionship. Brandon barbecued a huge dinner, and they they got a fire going. They sat around it for hours, and didn’t get to bed until late.
Cade loved it. He held his mate the whole time, sitting her on his lap every time she got near. He got to kiss her lots, and he got to look after her. If she needed anything, he got it for her, trying to make up for the time he was missing with her. She seemed to love the attention too, and snuggled into him every time he held her. He was so glad he took this break to see her.
They said their good nights to everyone, making sure all the wolves were comfortable, then headed to bed. He slept in her bed that night, with her laying across his chest. Cade couldn’t believe how happy he was. He had to fight his wolf, so he wouldn’t mate her. He wouldn’t do that to her.
Not too much longer, he promised his wolf, then they could be together for good. He decided then and there to step up his hunt for the rogues, their time was up, and it was going to get bloody.
