Cody pulls the car up in front of the hospital and together we help Hayden out of the car and through the front doors. I stay in the waiting area as the doctors take Hayden to the back, and reluctantly allow Cody to follow.
Of course, they only agreed to him going back with Hayden after he showed them his badge and basically told them he was going with them and there wasn’t a damn thing they could do about it.
I start back towards the doors, preparing to leave since I’d told Cody I’d take a taxi and meet him back at the house, when an arm is thrown around my shoulders and I’m being forcefully steered away from the exit.
I’m fully prepared to throw this guy into the wall and break a few bones, when I catch sight of his crooked nose. I let out a groan instead as I take in his appearance. Red hair this time, light green eyes, and he’s walking around in a doctor’s uniform.
“Why?” I question out loud. “Why me? Isn’t there anyone else in the world here that you can harass?”
“Oh there is,” He agrees as he continues steering me down the hall to who-knows-where. “But I like you,” He taps my nose as he says this.
I swat his hand away and he places his hand over his heart as if he’s been mortally wounded. I roll my eyes. “I thought that after we swapped information I’d never have to see you again or at the very least I wouldn’t have to see you this soon.”
“Well I was going to leave, but I figured I’d grace you with my glorious presence at least one more time. That, and I’m still waiting on someone else to get to back to me with more information. So, I thought, what the heck, I’ll stick around.”
I try to remove myself from his grip but he only tightens it. “Besides, we both know you can’t resist me,” He brushes his hair back out his face, smiles widely, and winks at me as he says this.
I let out a snort of laughter and shake my head with a smile on my face. He stops dead in his tracks.
“Oh my – no way. Did you just smile? And Laugh!?” He says, his face a pure mirror of shock. It then turns to amusement. He slaps his hands against his cheeks as if totally shocks. “Are you ok? Do we need to get a doctor? IS THERE A DOCTOR HERE?”
I slap my hand over his mouth. “Shut up!” I hiss. Everyone’s looking at him strangely after his last announcement, especially considering he’s dressed as if he is a doctor.
“Why are you even wearing that?” I ask him and he strikes a pose.
“All women like a man in a uniform.”
“I beg to differ.”
“You don’t count,” He says as he swings a stethoscope around his neck. “Besides, this,” He gestures to his uniform. “gives me a free pass to anywhere in this hospital I wish to go.”
“I bet,” I reply. “Until someone actually has a problem and you have to go screaming for a real doctor.”
He flashes me a smile. “I am a real doctor. In order to play the part, you have to be the part. As far as anyone is aware, I am a real doctor. And I will not have you going around spreading lies.” He drags me into an empty exam room.
“Now take off your clothes.”
I cross my arms over my chest and glare at him. “Why in the world would I do that?” I ask him.
He gives a devilish smile. “So I can check you over for injuries of course, what were you thinking was going to happen? Goodness Babe, get your head out of the gutter.”
I glare at him.
“Ok, ok,” He says. “If you really want to do something, well I suppose I can accommodate you.”
I shake my head in exasperation. “You’re completely and utterly ridiculous. I’m leaving.”
“Oh come on!” He protests. “This will be fun. I’ll let you give me an exam next.”
“You sure? I can think of a few other things we could do in a locked room.”
“I said no.”
“You’ve got to lighten up a little. Let loose. You might just find yourself having some fun.”
I shake my head. “Your idea of fun, and my idea of fun are two very different things.”
He shakes his head and laughs. As I pull open the door to leave. “Like I keep telling you,” He says. “One day Thirteen. One day.”
“Is that a promise, or a threat?”
He smiles wider and winks. “Take it how you want it Babe.”
