Chapter twelve: Broken Rose:
Five years have passed. The war dragged on. All wanted an end to this and soon. And the twist in the plot would change the whole fate of both species.
It started with a walk through the countryside. A young immortal soldier, Koi, was heading back to the camp when she met him. She had stopped for water. It had just been a good ten minutes when Koi heard someone rustling in the bushes. She pulled out her knife and watched closely.
"All right!" Koi yelled. "I know you're there! Come out and show yourself!"
And in an instance, he appeared. His looked like a tenshi. His skin was snow pale. His eyes were like shining dark coal. Boy! He would be every girl's dream. But, Koi knew what he was.
"You're a vampire!" she gasped. The vamp shushed her
"Do not be afraid," he said. "I'm not going to hurt you." Koi didn't believe him. She glared at the vamp.
"I am Fumio," he said. Koi kept her guard up. Fumio knew this wasn't going to be easy. He swallowed hard.
"I love you," Fumio said at last. Koi looked lost.
"You love me?" she asked. He nodded. Koi didn't know what to say.
Time after time, Fumio followed Koi and protected her from any danger in secret. Over time, Koi fell in love with Fumio. They couldn't be together. So the couple always met in secret. All seemed perfect. Until late February.
Another battle was starting. All was ready and in place. Even Koi and Fumio were ready to fight. They didn't want to. But they had no choice.
The fighting was worse than ever. Both sides gave it their hardest. It looked like it would end in stalemate.
Koi and Fumio disappeared onto a roof of pagoda. They looked like they wanted to kill each other. Then Fumio lowered his dragger. Koi watched closely.
"This is pointless," Fumio said.
"I know," his love said. "So why are we fighting for?" Fumio shook his head. Then a pleasant thought came to him.
"Let's run away," Fumio announced. Koi eyed him.
"To where?" she asked.
"Home," the vampire said. It took his lady four seconds to figure out what he meant.
"Are you sure about this?" Koi asked.
"What else can we do?" Fumio asked. The immortal thought about it for a moment. Then Koi finally agreed to it.
Fumio took up some poisonous herbs he had kept away, chewed on them, and slowly died before his love. Koi sank to her beside him, held Fumio close to her, and kissed him on the lips one last time. Then she took his hyne's blood dagger, stabbed herself in the chest, and died in Fumio's arms.
Both bodies fell to the ground below. All of the soldiers stopped fighting and stared at the now dead Koi and Fumio. They were only fourteen years old.
