Veronica removed Marnie from harm’s way up to her room. At that moment, I couldn’t be concerned since I needed to deal with my brother. Several people helped him to his feet, then I grabbed him by his neck. Baring my fangs, his behavior only made me want to murder him.
Micheal placed his hand on the arm that was strangling Zander. “Silas, don’t do this here. It’s not the time. Not in front of all these people,” he calmly stated. “Get upstairs to Marnie.”
Dropping Zander on the floor, Micheal was hot on my heels. We found Veronica trying to wake Marnie up; she was unconscious on the floor.
Panic set in. “What the fuck happened here?” I angrily asked Veronica. Kneeling down, I felt her pulse.
“She had a panic attack, Silas. That’s what the fuck happened!” she yelled back.
Without a thought, I scooped her into my arms, kicking her door open. Laying her down on the bed, the rise and fall of her chest seemed shallow. “So, now what?”
“Keep an eye on her,” Micheal said. “I’ll call the doctor.” Taking a pause at the door, he turned back. “When she wakes up, don’t go too hard on her. You don’t want her to have another attack.”
Veronica and Micheal left me alone with her.
~Flashback to Earlier That Day~
The annual ball for vampire hierarchy was tonight and I wanted to bring Marnie with me. Veronica had already gone out and picked a dress for her. We already had her measurements from the auction house.
The color was a beautiful emerald green, almost the same shade as her eyes, along with a pair of expensive, patent leather black pumps. She had the kind of eyes that I dreamed about, eyes that I could get lost in whenever. There wasn’t an hour of the day that I didn’t want to be with her.
Quietly peeking into her room, I saw the bed was made. Then I heard the shower running. Wanting to make it quick, I placed the dress and box down and left the note I wrote on top. I wanted her to be able to see it clearly.
Right when I was about to leave, I heard sobs coming from the bathroom. Pressing my ear to the door, the sobs only became louder. Marnie was crying and I knew why. It was all my fault. I didn’t want to punish her, in fact, it pained me to have to. The longer I listened, the more my heart broke at the thought that I shattered her. Pressing my forehead to the door, I placed my hands on the dark wood trim, squeezing. A huge part of me wanted to burst in and tell her how sorry I was for the way I treated her. Right now, the unfortunate truth was she would never believe me.
Leaving the crying woman, I went back to my room. Anger rose in my chest at my own stupidity. I didn’t want fear in her eyes when she looked at me ever again. Emotions were swirling around my head, and I wasn’t sure how to act or feel. From the moment I laid eyes on this woman, I wanted to possess her mind, body, and soul. Instead, I destroyed her. Self-loathing and hatred bubbled in me.
The pure fury reached its peak and I let it all go against my bathroom sink. There were pieces of ceramic shards and water spewing from the busted appliance. Seeing my reflection, I could understand why she was so afraid of me. My heaving chest and black eyes were enough to scare anyone.
There had to be some way to show her that I wasn’t a monster.
As I paced around, Marnie remained unconscious. Her heartbeat steadied, but the doctor still had not arrived. I couldn’t bear to wait anymore.
Opening the door, the elderly doctor was ready to knock. “Oh, Prince Silas. I apologize for taking so long.”
He took a seat next to the bed where Marnie lay. “She had a panic attack, and we weren’t sure what to do.”
Taking out his stethoscope, he paused before turning to me. “She is human, I assume?”
“Yes, she is. She’s my companion.” I answered without missing a beat.
Nodding, he pressed the device to her chest again. “Heartbeat is normal. Let’s check her pulse.” Feeling her wrist, he kept time with his watch. “Pulse is good. I suggest letting her rest. Try not to overwhelm her when she wakes.”
“Understood,” I replied. “Thank you for coming.”
The doctor took his leave from us. Thankfully, she wasn’t in danger. Not knowing anything about human ailments, I’d have to remember how to take care of her if she had another attack. I’d never been human, so it was hard for me to understand how this could happen. Taking the doctor’s advice, I’d let her rest, and we’d speak about the evening’s events as soon as she was able.
Running a finger down her cheek, I was in awe of how soft she felt. Kissing her forehead, I retired for the night.
The sun shone in my eyes, and stung like hell. What on earth happened? Sitting up slowly, my head was pounding like a drum. Looking down at myself, I was still in my party dress.
Swinging my legs over the side of my bed, I stood on shaky legs. Managing to walk, albeit slowly, I decided to take a shower to get the night before off. The water felt good on my skin, and I felt like some of my strength was returning.
How the hell am I going to face the prince? I asked myself. I barely recalled what happened, but what I did remember was not good. Recounting in my head, I remembered dancing with Count Blackmore, but then Zander made an appearance. He had his hands on me.
I shivered recalling the thought.
Reluctantly leaving the warm bathroom, I grabbed something light to wear. My whole body was weary, and the thought of wearing heavy clothes made me ache more. All I really wanted was to go back to sleep. The notion of facing the prince and his rage made me tremble.
Throwing on a loose-fitting dress, I towel dried my hair by the bay window. Gazing out the window, the sun warmed my skin through the glass. I wondered what it was like out in the world. Away from here. Away from the pain. Away from everything.
Sometime later, a knock on my door woke me from the bay window ledge. Rubbing my eyes, the sun was sinking below the horizon.
Folding the towel, I put it on the bed, running my fingers through my hair. Tackling a couple knots, I opened the door to see Veronica standing there. “My brother would like to see you,” she said, quietly.
Not waiting for me to answer, the clicking of her heels grew farther away. Unwillingly, I followed.
Silence, save for her shoes, was between us. I hadn’t even noticed we were in a hallway I had never been down before. Stopping abruptly, I raised my head. “This is his office. He’s waiting for you.”
“Should I be worried?” Fear laced my voice.
She smiled slightly at me. “Try not to.” Turning on her heel, Veronica left.
Raking my fingers through my hair again, I gathered what courage was left in me, and knocked. “Come in,” his husky voice responded.
Taking a deep breath, I opened the door to see the prince sitting behind his desk, looking down at papers. Everything about him was a mess. Organization didn’t seem to a strong suit of his. My eyes were immediately drawn to the massive cherry wood desk before me. The front was adorned with carved columns on both sides, but the front was simple with edging, creating an intricate rectangle. Deep in thought, I couldn’t disturb him. “Y-you sent for me?” my voice came out very timidly.
For a moment, he didn’t respond and continued to work. He looked so majestic sitting there with his messy hair and shirt partly unbuttoned. As though he sensed my stare, he peered up at me through his lashes. Leaning back in his black leather chair, he looked me up and down. “Please sit.” He gestured to the paisley green and yellow chair in front of his desk.
Sitting down, I averted my eyes from his. A piercing gaze went right through me, and I could feel it when goosebumps rose on my skin. Coming around, he came around, sitting on the edge of his desk in front of me. “Marnie, look at me,” he said, in a quietly demanding voice. Hastily picking my head up, I gasped seeing the soft expression on his face. “About last night-“
“Sir, please let me explain!” I cut him off, not thinking,
“No! You listen!” he yelled. Immediately, my head lowered in submission. “I don’t blame you for anything, Marnie.” His tone became soft again, and my attention snapped up. “In fact, I think you did very well last night. I’m glad I had you by my side, even if my brother ruined it all.” He clenched his teeth toward the end of his sentence. Clearly, his brother was a sore spot. “I wanted to speak to you because I wanted you to know that there will be no consequences for you. The only one who will pay is Zander.”
His expression remained soft, and there was something deep in his eyes that made my legs quiver. Then he caught me off guard. Kneeling in front of me, he cupped my cheek. “You’re so beautiful, Marnie.”
“You mean you aren’t angry with me?” I asked him, confused.
He let out a small chuckle, rubbing his thumb up and down on my cheek. “Of course not. You didn’t do anything wrong. I have my sister and Count Blackmore to attest to that.” My face flushed.
“Of course,” I said in a hushed tone.
“Barring what I’ve done to you, has another man ever touched you?”
What? Did he really just ask me that? I would think it would be obvious. Do I lie? “Um…well, no. You’re the only one.” Feeling my cheeks blaze, I couldn’t even look at him.
His hand slid up my thigh toward my aching core, making me tense my muscles. “Good,” he replied, with a devilish smile.
Gripping the arms of the chair, my head started to spin feeling his cool hand go farther up. His eyes remained trained on the moving hand, his smile becoming wider as he went. “Skin is so soft,” he whispered.
Trying to hold myself together, I simply couldn’t. Panic rose in my chest, and I stood up so aggressively I knocked the chair down behind me. “Prince Silas, what are you doing?”
Slowly rising to his feet, his eyes were raging with anger. “Are you questioning me?”
Oh, shit! I pissed him off! Why did I run my mouth? “N-no, I didn’t,” I said, stumbling over my words. “I-I just don’t understand what you’re doing.” With every word I spoke, I backed up, finding myself backed into a wall, his lips on my ear.
Wordlessly, the prince caged me in, balancing himself with his right hand while his left hand slid up my thigh. “Stay absolutely still, Marnie. I don’t want to hurt you.” Nodding silently, words eluded me. His fingers found my bundle of nerves, and my body jerked. Moving lower, he alternated between playing with my clit and slipping his fingers inside me. “Mmmm, you’re already so wet for me.” His heavy breathing was on my ear, making me shiver. My legs started to buckle, but I remembered his warning. Don’t move, Marnie.
My breathing became ragged as I felt his skilled fingers playing with my most sensitive area. Digging my fingers into his arm, I couldn’t contain the moans bubbling from my throat. Pressing his body into mine, his fingers relentlessly pumped in and out of me. “I want you to cum, Marnie. Cum all over my fingers.” Licking my earlobe, another moan escaped my lips. The pressure built so deeply, I couldn’t hold it anymore. A wave of pleasure rocked my body and I felt myself clench around his fingers.
Coming down off my high, my body went limp. Scooping me up under my knees, he whisked me out of the office, and the world around me became a blur. My head was still spinning, and I couldn’t focus.
Softness on my back, I suddenly became aware of my surroundings. Sitting up on my hands, I was on a soft bed, but it wasn’t my own. Where the hell am I? Looking around the room, everything was only vaguely familiar.
“Lay back,” his deep voice commanded. I could hear him, but my vision was obscured by the darkness. “Do as I say.”
Following orders, I laid back on the bed, when he emerged from the shadows wearing only his black jeans. His pale skin contrasted with the darkness around him, and the dark hair on his head. Finally, able to see, I could see his flawless, perfectly sculpted body, and I desperately wanted to touch him. Approaching the bed, I couldn’t help but propping myself up again, I backed up closer to the head of the bed.
Lunging for my ankle, he forcefully grabbed it, pulling me to him. Hovering over me, his eyes were lustful and almost black as night. Licking his lips, I couldn’t maintain eye contact with him. I felt like I was drowning in his deep gaze.
Resting his hands against my cheek, his thumb played with my lower lip. “W-what are you doing?”
Sitting back on his heels, he trailed his hand up to my thigh, hiking up my dress. Sharply intaking a breath, a small smile crept across his face. “I’m going to treat you so good, baby,” he purred.
Leaning down some, his hand crept further toward my apex. Gathering my courage, I dragged my hands along his biceps, and I felt him shudder beneath my touch. Wanting to savor that feeling, my hands traversed overall of his crevices, from his chest to his rock-hard abs. The more I touched, the more his breath hitched. Every touch of his skin under my hands, sent sparks through me.
Lowering himself further, we were nose to nose. Feeling brazen, I pressed my lips to his, running my fingers through his dark hair. His lips were so soft, and his hair silky. Compared to the first time we were together, he was being so gentle and it caught me off guard.
Leaving a trail of kisses down my cheek, over my shoulder, all the way down to my erect nipples through my dress, I craved the stimulation he was giving me. Arching my back, a simple snatch, he ripped my dress off discarding it on the floor. I was completely bare to him.
Taking my nipple into his hot mouth, he sucked and nibbled while his other hand massaged my other breast with his massive hand. Moans escaped me, and I covered my mouth with my hand. Pausing his ministrations, he removed my hand. “I want to hear you, sweetheart.” Steadily moving downward, my body jerked and twitched feeling his lips and teeth on my flesh. Tangling my hands in his hair, I felt myself getting wetter and wetter, dripping onto the bed.
Pausing again, he looked up at me through his long eyelashes. “Tell me you want me, Marnie.” Though his tone was soft, it was a clear command.
Right when I was about to speak, he blew on my wet folds making me gasp. “Y-you. I want you,” I moaned.
Putting his tongue inside me, my back arched completely off the bed. The soft sensation made my legs tremble, and I wanted more. Grabbing his hair, I thrusted my hips upward so he would go deeper inside me. “You taste so sweet.” Then, without warning, he slid one of his long fingers inside me, hitting my spot perfectly. Carefully holding my hips down, he sucked and flicked on my clit making me thrash wildly.
“Oh god! I think…I think…” I cried out. Holding me down a little more firmly, I fisted his hair roughly
Screaming from the pleasure, he halted his tongue to speak. “Do it. Do it now.” Resuming, he flicked his tongue, releasing the pressure built up inside me. Letting myself go, I could feel him sucking harder to take it all in. “That’s my girl.”
Coming down off the high, I wiped a thin veil of sweat from my brow. My head was reeling, and I could barely understand what just happened. As of late, his actions didn’t match his words. To suddenly do something like this, behave like a lover, just made me more confused.
Sliding up next to me, the prince quietly observed. I could feel his eyes boring into me. Twirling my hair between his fingers, he finally spoke. “Are you alright?” His tone was very gentle.
Shocked at his question, I gazed at him blankly. “I suppose,” I answered, unsure if that was the correct answer.
An awkward silence fell between us.
“I’m not who you think I am,” he hesitantly started. “All the rumors, I’m sure you’ve heard about me, are false.”
Sitting up on my elbows, I tilted my head slightly. “What do you mean?”
Sighing, he continued. “Living in this house, I’m sure you’ve heard that servants have gone missing.” Averting my eyes, my silence spoke volumes. “The slaves that went missing belonged to my brother, not me.” Eyes wide, it was useless to hide my shock at the revelation.
One question came to mind. “Why did you take the blame?”
Tucking the hair between his fingers behind my ear, the same digit trailed down my shoulder. “Because if certain people found out, then he would be in more trouble than I could get him out of.”
Listening to him speak like this made me see the kind person he was versus the preconceived notion. I felt myself blush at the thought. How naive was I to believe everything I heard? But, I couldn’t blame myself. Information channels were nonexistent to most slaves, and I spent my life with the same people, given the same information. Thinking about it more, there was a whole new light shed on the man lying beside me.
Pulled back to my senses, I shook off those thoughts. “Sorry.”
“You looked pretty spacey there for a second. Do you feel alright?”
“I’m fine. Just surprised, and reevaluating, I guess.”
Propping himself up on his elbow sideways, he smirked at me. “Surprised I’m coming clean? Yeah, I didn’t think I would either. Something about you makes me honest.”
Copying his position, I squeezed my legs together at his words. “I’m nothing special,” I replied. Rolling onto my back, I ignored the harsh gaze set on me.
Feeling movement on the bed, my sight was completely filled with the prince. “Now, why would you say that?” His tone was much lower than normal, rendering me speechless. Running one hand from my cheek to my breast, I gasped at his feather light touch. “You are an exquisite creature.”
Caught in his gaze, I was enraptured. He told no lie, and I found myself wanting to give him everything. Turning my head, I exposed my neck to him. My heart was pounding hard against my rib cage, and I hoped he couldn’t hear it.
Taking the hint, he dipped his head down, inhaling deep against my skin. A groan of approval came from his throat. “Your blood is flowing so much faster.”
Clenching the cool bedsheets beneath me, I squeezed my eyes shut. At that moment, I wasn’t afraid of him; only being away from him.
The wet sensation of his tongue traveling up my neck made my spine tingle, and toes curl. Silas took his time to appreciate the scent of my skin as he dragged his nose over my neck to my collarbones. A moan accidentally slipped from my mouth.
“You’re very sensitive.” Completely embarrassed, I covered my face. Lightly taking my hands, they were pinned down. “I love that look on your face. Reserved only for me.”
Cheeks blazing, my mind was racing with what he’d do next. Releasing my wrists, fangs penetrated my skin. Without thinking my hand grabbed ahold of Silas’ silky hair, and chiseled arm.
Feeling my life force leave my body, my thoughts became hazy. Letting out one last moan, those fangs retracted.
Blinking a couple of times, I could barely make out his form, though so close to me. The clearest thing I could see was the blood on the corner of his mouth. Reaching for it, I was halted. “No, no sweetheart. Mustn’t do that.”
Those were the final words he said before my eyes fluttered closed.
Before sleep took me, I heard his faraway voice. “What are you doing to me?”
After a deep and dreamless sleep, I awoke to a soft feeling. A constant motion of someone caressing my face and hair. Prying my eyes open, I wanted to find the source.
Focusing my eyes, they settled on the Prince. He was gently caressing me. Mildly alarmed, I sat up quickly, only to have my head throb in pain.
Wincing, my whole body felt heavy.
“You shouldn’t get up so fast,” the Prince remarked. “I took a little too much from you last night.” Rubbing my back, he sat up next to me. “Get some more rest. It’ll do you some good,” he suggested.
“I feel terrible.” Clapping my hand over my mouth, I was sure I’d be in trouble for that. “Sorry. I’m sorry,” I said, quickly.
Moving my hair, he kissed my shoulder. “Why are you apologizing? You didn’t do anything.”
Cocking my head to the side, every neuron fired off, warning me against fully believing what he was saying. Contrary to his previous actions, the sweet look in his eyes put me at ease, attempting to assure me there would be no consequences.
Silently laying back down, the covers billowed their way across my naked form. Rolling onto my side, Silas did the same. My eyes grazed across every single beautiful feature on his face. I wanted to reach out and touch him, but the discomfort gnawing at me prevented it.
Because of his drastic change of personality, there were burning questions I wanted to ask. “Why were you so against me tasting my blood?” I couldn’t help myself. The urge to know won out over my common sense.
Shooting me a half-smile, he responded evasively. “That day will come.”
There was something else gnawing at me, as well. Searching my memory, I recalled the lifelessness in Zander’s eyes. Though brothers, they were polar opposites.
While deep in thought, the abrupt movement of his hand made me flinch noticeably. Retracting his hand for a moment, he resumed brushing the hair away covering my eyes softly caressing my cheek.
Rolling onto my back, I savored the touch of his hand. I wanted answers, but the subject was a sore one with him. But he was the only one who could shed any light. “Why do you hate your brother so much?”
His jaw clenched, and he pulled his hand away. Exhaling, he gathered his thoughts before answering me. “My brother is difficult, but I don’t hate him. He’s always resented me because of my position. Zander always said that when our parents were alive, they favored me and treated him…like he was a leper.” He put his hands behind his head, getting comfortable. “As for my sister, she has always been independent. Never needed approval from anyone. And, surprise, surprise, but Veronica and Zander don’t get along either.”
“So, Zander felt like he was left out?” I asked. “Why didn’t he bother to try to get along with you and Veronica?”
Having enough of my questions, he rose from the bed, pulling his clothes on. “You ask too many questions, Marnie.” He just left me there, wondering.
