Chapter 21

Phenton ran through the forest quickly. His heightened senses made the forest brighter. Phenton could hear everything from the sticks and leaves crunching under his paws to the ladybug wings fluttering miles away. He ran towards an evergreen tree and started transforming back to his human form. He stumbled as his body morphed. Phenton fell to the ground wheezing. Marshall leaned his shoulder against a tree in the shade. He looked at Phenton who remained on the ground breathing heavily.

“So... Isabella left a message for you.”

No response.

“She said she wanted me to watch you. Make sure you don’t do anything reckless.”

Still no response. Marshall crossed his arms and continued to stare at Phenton who had finally sat up against a tree and put his head on his knees.

“I’d give you my pants but we all know how that’s gonna go.”

Phenton stood up and looked around for something to covering himself. He found nothing and started walking pissed and not really caring about his junk hanging out.

“Why would she say something like that? I’m not being reckless,” Phenton said angrily as Marshall laughed.

“Yes you are. You busted out a window and released inmates on people. It would’ve been more fun had you tried to burn the place down.”

“I did what I had to. I’m not going to continue taking the crap that Maximus is dishing out. It just got a little out of hand,” Phenton commented as Marshall uncrossed his arms.

“It’s so weird that I’m your sub conscience. You’re hilarious to be around but I just don’t get it. You wear all white and are one of the most powerful creatures in the world. Yet I’m the opposite of you.”

“What’s not to understand and what do you mean the opposite of me? Are you weak or something?” Phenton asked as he came to a river bank. He knelt down and sipped the water.

“Of course I’m not weak. I am the strongest of my kind. They only assign the best to the ultimately crazy. It was supposed to be another peaceful quiet day...Hell when you popped up, radars where going off. Lights were flashing. Shit got real. Another thing, I wear all black. Black suit, red shirt, and a black tie. You wear all white all the time. It hurts my eyes to look at you.”

“That’s not my problem. If you didn’t want to be assigned to me then why did you volunteer?” Phenton grumbled as Marshall smiled.

“Oh I chose you because you were mad. If they strapped you in a straight jacket, you’d dislocate your arms just to get out. You were literally on the verge of death. Always forgetting everything and everyone.”

“It isn’t my fault that I forget. They made it that way so that I couldn’t over power them,” Phenton said as Marshall looked at him curiously.

“What are you talking about? Whose they?”

“The gods. When we were created, Isabella and I, as gross as it sounds, there was a god orgy. They all went at each other, taking from each god a part of themselves, fusing them together and then inserting it into one male god to insert into a female,” Phenton explained as Marshall put a hand on his chin. He thought deeply about how that would even happen.

“Someone did it with Hades?”

“That’s not the point!” Phenton shouted angrily as Marshall laughed.

“I understand. But that’s seriously how it went down?”

“Yes, that’s how it went down,” Phenton said as he waded in the water. He went further in until his feet couldn’t touch. Marshall hovered over it as Phenton swam.

“So what’s the plan? You can’t go back to the LVO and there’s nothing out here.”

“I don’t know. I’m going to get to the other side of Tempos near Vacoma and see what I can do. I’m pretty sure if I tell the LVO that I over reacted, they would let me back in. Just blame it on the Nerophalcagia,” Phenton said as he kept swimming. Marshall laughed.

“Always a thinker.”

“Shut up,” Phenton bubbled spitting the water out of his mouth. There was a spaceship on the platform. Chase had been trying to get a shuttle ready to send into space. Phenton looked over to the shuttle wanting to be on the next trip out of here.

“So tell me more about this not remembering thing?”

“Every 3,000 years the Gods use mass Memoryco and duress on Isabella and me to make us forget everything that we’ve done in the past years,” Phenton explained as Marshall covered his mouth curiosity sparking his next question.

“Why? What’s going to happen when this segment is over?”

“I don’t know why. I think it has something to do with Isabella and I being intimate with each other. Only chimaera can create new ones. That’s why they made sure that I was married to someone not like us. Although Aurora is a kitsune, her body doesn’t possess the amount of power it needs to hold such a powerful being. That being said, Simeon only has a few abilities and not all of them,” Phenton said as Marshall thought on this.

“But won’t you forget Isabella, your wife, the LVO, everything?”

“Yes. You should remember this Marshall you were there,” Phenton said climbing onto a log that was floating in the water. He swung his leg over and took a moment to catch his breath.

____________________________

Who is he then? I’ve never seen him around here before. Is he an agent? Why is he wearing all white? Why are his eyes gold? Is he human? Is he a part of the LVO? Is it—”

“Would you shut the hell up? Stop asking so many questions. They sent us out to observe,” The agent said as he pushed a button on the side of his helmet. The visor that shielded his pale green eyes went up. He kept his pale green eyes on the man that was wandering around the forest.

“It’s because I don’t know where I am Marshall! What would you have me do? I don’t even remember what I was doing. How did we get here?” Phenton asked as placing his hands on his waist.

“I’m just saying you stick out like a sore thumb. Nice green forest, bright white man. At least try and blend in a little.” Marshall said raking a hand through his shaggy auburn hair. His white teeth were visible through his slightly parted lips. He looked around and straightened the black cuffs of his suit and adjusted the red shirt he was wearing. In Phenton’s mind, Marshall was a clean cut gentleman with a crud and inappropriate sense of humor. Marshall straightened his black tie as Phenton smacked his hands on his head. Marshall looked at Phenton intently with his turquoise eyes. Phenton gritted his teeth and crouched to the ground.

“I don’t know what to do. Where can we go? Where is—” A rustling in the bushes stopped him. He turned his head toward it.

“Oh come out of the bushes won’t you?”

“They can’t hear you ya idiot,” Phenton said as he approached the bush. It continued to rustle. He parted it slightly to reveal an orange kitten hiding in there. “How did you get here little guy?” Phenton asked as it meowed at him. “Come on out, don’t be shy,” Phenton said offering his hand to the kitten. He tried to come out but his leg was caught.

“It’s so cute,” Marshall commented as Phenton looked at him. His big green eyes were so helpless. Phenton produced a flame with his hand and burned part of the bush so he could see better. The kitten meowed again as Phenton grabbed its paw. It patted Phenton’s hand playfully.

“What the hell is he doing?” the agent with his visor down asked. The other agent tapped the buttons on his helmet. His vision zoomed in on Phenton.

Uh...my radar indicates animal traces. Probably a shape shifter stuck in transformation,” he said as a red bar slid up and down before a circle twisted closer to his eye. “Eh...orange cat,” he continued as Phenton stood up. He had loosened the wire that was wrapped around the kitten’s hind leg. He held it in his hand and rubbed its head with his thumbs.

“You look like a big ass gorilla taking that poor kitty hostage.”

“I’m not taking him hostage. I was just—”

“Taking it hostage.”

“If I was taking him hostage, I’d walk away with him,” Phenton said as Marshall pointed to the ground. Phenton turned the cat away from him. Marshall stamped his foot down and motioned to the ground again. Phenton sighed.

“Put it down and walk away,” Marshall said as Phenton frowned. He gently set the kitten in the grass. “We need to move on if we plan to find what we came here for,” Marshall said as Phenton watched the kitten run back into the forest.

“Are we supposed to capture him? What is he doing out here?” the agent asked as his partner smacked him.

“What did I tell you? We are only here to observe,” he said as Phenton stretched his arms behind his back.

“Marshall I told you, I don’t know where to find this LoganView Order. I don’t even know what it is. Someone told me they had seen me earlier at the headquarters. That’s impossible I don’t remember anything,” Phenton said looking around. He squinted his eyes in the direction of the agents who were crouched on the ground using the hill as coverage.

“Did he see us?” the agent asked as his partner turned a dial on the other side of his helmet. He could see the whites of Phenton’s eyes. That was never a good sign.

“Is he really that close? I can see his eyes practically,” he asked but received no response. “Did you hear what I said?” he asked again removing his visor. Phenton was standing right in front of them. The wind blew Phenton’s hair to the side as he stared down at the agents.

“Can I help you gentlemen?” he asked as the agents stood up. Phenton was dressed in white skinny jeans and a white under armor t-shirt. He looked like most of the recruits but his gold eyes intimidated them making it unclear if he was a friend or foe.

“Uh...well....we uh heard that uh there was someone uh wandering about on our borders,” The agent stammered as Phenton smiled.

“Told you you’d stick out like a sore thumb.”

“That’s me. I was looking for something,” Phenton said as they stood up.

“What exactly is that?” the agent on the left asked as Phenton stared at them. The agent’s helmets had a distress signal on the front that was hooked to the plate on their chest and back.

“I’m looking for a LoganView Order or something like that,” he said as one of the agents smiled.

“Well you’re in luck Mr...Mr.—”

“Helix. Phenton Helix,” Phenton said and then motioned to his left. “This is Marshall,” he said as the agents looked around strangely.

“Who?” the agent asked as Phenton stared at him. He continued looking around wondering who he was talking about. “Right,” he said as they motioned Phenton forward. “Luckily for you, we are a part of the LoganView Order,” he said as Phenton smiled ear to ear. The agent pushed the button on his chest plate before turning away from Phenton.

“Great! Where is the leader? Who is it?” Phenton asked as they walked up to a pure white building. The headquarters had glass windows from ceiling to floor. At night the lights lit up the glassy building. The agents never answered his question. They went through the sliding doors into the building. The inside of the LVO had six floors. The first floor was for visitation, cafeteria needs, and certain facilities. The second through fifth floor held certain prisoners. The sixth floor was mainly offices and bunk rooms for the agents and guards.

“Retina scan,” said the female automated voice. The agent pushed his visor up and opened his eye wide. A pink light ran up and down scanning his eye. “Micro Johnston. Access granted.”

“What is that for?” Phenton asked as the door slid open and Phenton was welcomed by an unsightly surprise. Agents were armed with white assault rifles.

“What the hell is this?”

The agents grabbed Phenton quickly and started pulling him down the hall.

“What are you doing?” Phenton shouted becoming hot. Flames started sprouting around him. He became nervous and dropped fang. “Let me go!” He screamed as they threw him in a white room. It seemed like hours before someone came and peered in the door window of the room.

“So what are we dealing with?” the surgical masked agent asked.

“Well...we aren’t sure. We received word that there was an intruder wandering around our border so we were sent to look. We found him talking to himself. He was letting off a very strange aura,” The agent responded as they watched Phenton pace the room.

“What am I supposed to do? I need to get out of here?” Phenton asked walking from one wall to the other. He hated being locked up like this. Marshall hung from the ceiling and looked down at him.

“Well, I don’t have an answer for that. For now just wait and see what will happen. My suggestion, wait until they open the door and then burst out. You’re good at that. Busting out of stuff.”

“OK,” Phenton said continuing to pace.

“Well, let’s see what he is and why he was so close to our borders,” the man asked putting his eye to the scanner on the door.

“Retina scan. Razor Vladimir. Access granted,” the female voice said as the door slid open. Phenton tried rushing out but Razor stood in his way.

“Why am I in here?” Phenton asked upset.

“You shoulda asked that first.”

“Why were you so close to our borders? That’s very unusual. A few of the agents here say that they saw you a week ago. So obviously you know who we are?” Razor asked as Phenton looked away from him.

“I was supposed to find the LoganView Order,” Phenton answered hoping it would get him out quicker.

“And what purpose would that be for?” Razor questioned as Phenton scratched his head.

“I don’t know. I was supposed to become an agent or something like that. I honestly don’t know. I don’t remember anything. The last few days have just disappeared from me,” Phenton said his eyes darting around the room.

“You’re a jittery one aren’t you? What’s your problem?” Razor asked as Phenton grabbed his arm.

“I have Nerophalcagia. It’s—”

“I know what it is. I’m a doctor,” Razor said cutting him off. He started typing on a tablet. “Name?” he asked.

“Phenton Helix,” Phenton responded as Razor raised an eyebrow. He smiled.

“I remember you. You were a great agent,” he said softly as Phenton continued looking confused. “Age,” Razor asked.

“27,” Phenton replied.

“You don’t age do you?” Razor asked as Phenton shook his head. “Vampire?” he continued as Phenton nodded. “You’re not pale enough to be a pure vampire,” Razor said as Phenton shook his head.

“I’m a vampire, igniter, werewolf, fairy, whisper, ler—”

“In short. A chimaera. That’s interesting because there are only 2 known in the universe, a male and a female. That’s why you don’t remember anything. Your 3,000 years was up so now you are starting over,” Razor said as Phenton nodded a little confused. He didn’t know there was someone just like him running around. Phenton stood and shook Razor’s hand. “It’s good to have you back agent,” Razor said as Phenton smiled awkwardly. He didn’t know what to do really. “We’ll have one of our whisper agents come and revive the important parts of your memory,” he continued as Phenton shook his head. They handed him his badge and white coat. The whisper came into the room and gently grabbed Phenton’s head. A light shown between them before the agent backed up. Phenton looked at him and smiled.

“Davis?” he asked as the agent shook his head.

“Welcome back Agent Helix, sir,” he said standing at attention.

“It’s alright. No need to be formal,” Phenton said sending the agent away. “Where is Agent Sullivan?” he asked as Razor shrugged.

“We aren’t sure. She was in our custody but she escaped,” he said as Phenton sighed angrily. The Gods must have really been trying hard to keep them a part.

“Don’t worry about that now. Get everything back to normal first and then we can look for her on our own time.”

Phenton nodded and walked out of the room.

____________________________

See they don’t make me forget you. So each 3,000 years if I am not near the LVO headquarters, I need you to guide me back. I think that’s how I found it last time because you helped me,” Phenton said as Marshall smiled.

“Aha found a loop hole.”

“Because then I could just get one of the whisper agents to give me back my memory,” Phenton explained as Marshall nodded. Phenton climbed off of the log and continued swimming again. He finally reached Vacoma by nightfall. He came to the shore and lay on the beach to catch his breath.

“Don’t look now, but I think you have a visitor?”

Phenton turned around to see a vampire coming out of the ground. He sat up and shook the sand out of his hair. He dug to the side of him and grabbed a hand. He stood up and tried to pull a body up.

“Zach. Climb out!” He shouted as Zach stood up finally.

“You’re the one who chose the hardest substance to climb out of so don’t get mad at me Avery,” Zach said angrily as he shook the sand out of his hair as well. Avery stared at Zach with a serious look on his face.

“What?” Zach asked as Avery stared at him anxiously.

“Did you feel weird, when Lord Amble drank from you?” Avery asked as Zach smiled.

“No. Did you?” he asked as Avery shook his head.

“My mind told me it was wrong but my body liked it, especially when he mixed blood. It felt weird yet it felt right. I felt like he was losing power though because he couldn’t get Fletcher to stop right away,” Avery said as Zach nodded. He opened his mouth to speak but was cut off. “Transfuse is dirty,” Avery said as Zach pondered the thought.

“Would it have made you feel better had he not swapped blood between the three of us?” Zach asked as Avery shook his head.

“No it would be just as dirty,” Avery said as they walked up the small incline.

“I don’t know. I liked it,” Zachery said as Fletcher appeared before them.

“You guys talking about me?” he asked quietly in Vampirish as they both looked down to the ground. “I don’t understand why you guys are a part of Squad V when all you do is gossip and feel bad about what happened,” he barked as they flinched. Fletcher grabbed Avery by the shoulder and pulled his body forward. “You think transfuse is dirty?” he asked as Avery slowly nodded. Fletcher turned Avery’s head to the side and bit into his neck.

“NO! Stop!” Avery shouted trying to push Fletcher off. Amble appeared out of nowhere and flung Fletcher back. Fletcher looked calmly at Amble as Avery’s blood ran out of his mouth.

“Did you honestly think I wouldn’t see or sense the fear in his body?” Amble said angrily as Fletcher looked down ashamed. “LOOK AT ME!” Amble hollered as Fletcher lifted his head. “Why did you do this?” he asked.

“I was jealous,” Fletcher whispered as Amble grabbed him around the back of the neck pushing Fletcher forward.

“You two continue with the mission,” Amble said as he pulled Fletcher behind him. “You’re coming with me. We need to talk,” he growled as Fletcher tried to keep up with Amble’s stride. They went to a building and Amble pushed the door open. Amble slammed Fletcher up against the wall. They had entered an abandoned motel room and with the force of the slam, concrete soot fell on them.

“My Lord,” Fletcher started but got hit on the mouth.

“Shut up. What do you have to be jealous about?” Amble hissed as Fletcher looked into his eyes. That feeling was back. He wanted Amble’s blood again. “Answer me,” Amble asked angrily. “Obviously you don’t deserve to be the head of Squad V if you are thinking about me in that way. Transfuse is dirty, but it is the only way that I could achieve what I needed done,” Amble threatened as Fletcher looked away from him. He brought his hand up to wipe away the tears that started forming in his eyes.

“I’m sorry,” he said lightly. “You willingly let us drink from you and—”

“And you abused that! When I told you to stop, you did not,” Amble interrupted crossing his arms.

“It’s not every day that you’re in the presence of a king. I couldn’t help myself when I first tasted your blood,” Fletcher said coming closer to Amble. Amble shifted because Fletcher had his fangs bared.

“Retract them,” Amble said as Fletcher kept walking. Images ran through his head as he kept advancing. Oh how he wanted to force Amble on his hands and knees. Amble started getting defensive and bared his fangs as well. “Fletcher,” he said again, but Amble noticed his eyes were black. The brew was still in effect within Fletcher’s body. Fletcher grabbed Amble and clenched a fistful of his hair. Amble slapped Fletcher’s hands away as Fletcher grabbed Amble’s groin. Amble wasn’t expecting that and punched Fletcher in the chest. He was sent flying backwards into the wall.

“Master, please,” Fletcher pleaded as Amble volexed towards him and grabbed his neck with both hands, one behind his neck and the other under Fletcher’s chin. Amble squeezed until Fletcher calmed down. His eyes went back to their normal light blue color. Amble release him and stared cautiously at Fletcher. Fletcher grabbed Amble’s hand and pulled him down towards the bed. Amble was slow in reacting and Fletcher turned on top of him quickly. He bit into Amble’s neck viciously.

“Fletcher!” Amble hollered trying to pry Fletcher off. He was right. The brew was too strong in Fletcher’s body and it became harder to stop him from feeding. Amble started struggling as Fletcher’s body became hard. His eyes dilated as he ran his hands through Amble’s hair. How he loved the feeling of that man’s hair as it smoothly ran along his long cold fingers. Amble felt light headed as he lifted his hands. Fletcher grabbed them and held them above his head.

“Knock it off!” Amble shouted as Fletcher twisted Amble’s hair between his fingers. Amble couldn’t see and he felt like he was going to pass out. Amble started breathing heavily as Fletcher’s other hand went down to Amble’s waist and gripped hard. Fletcher breathed deeply with each drag as he kept moving his hand down lower on Amble’s body towards his groin. Amble yanked his hands out of Fletcher’s grip and put his hands up again. Fletcher brought his hands up again and forced Amble’s hands down. Amble kicked underneath Fletcher trying to throw him off. Amble didn’t realize the effects of his blood would hinder his own strength.

Amble managed to get his left hand out of Fletcher’s grip and jabbed him in the eyes. Fletcher flew up as Amble palm heeled him in the chest sending him backwards. Amble slowly stood up keeping his glare on Fletcher. Fletcher looked at Amble longingly. It took him a moment to regain his senses finally realizing what he had just done.

“Master. I’m sorry,” he said straightening his shirt as Amble put his hand up. Amble couldn’t believe what just happened either and stood rubbing his neck.

“If this happens again, I will personally stake you,” Amble threatened as Fletcher nodded. “Finish your mission and bring me my igniter,” he said coldly walking out of the room. Amble continued rubbing his neck as he entered one of the low key bars of Vacoma.
