Chapter Sixty One

Monday October 4th, 2010: Mid-Afternoon

Hospital Room 205

Kolleen had been nodding on and off as she continued to sit by her boyfriend’s side and had lost all track of time. She did leave during the days she had to, for college, but always came back as soon as it was over. Every so often Marcos and Samantha would show up to pay their respects. Every single day Penny would show up, to give them updates about Diana, even though she knew Randy wasn’t conscious. “He can still hear you in his subconscious Penny. I learned that in my Psychology class.” Kolleen stated.

Penny nodded and left the room, so Kolleen could keep assisting her boyfriend. Mr. Lawrence showed up shortly after Penny left, wearing a pure black suit outfit, with matching shoes. He had his arms folded in front of him as he gazed over at Randy. “How long has he been like this?” he asked. “He’s been like this for three days now. The doctor said that he slipped into a coma from the seizure’s severity.” Kolleen replied. “God…” Mr. Lawrence gazed down at his feet, shaking his head all the while.

His hands were now firmly grasped onto the end of Randy’s bed, muttering to himself. “I should have put some rules into that match Miss Sparks. I know in my league, everything goes but…” “Now you can’t go blaming yourself.” Kolleen told him. “There’s no way you could have prepared for this. If you knew my Randy like I do, he’ll pull out of this in a short while.” Kolleen replied. Her attention was focused one hundred percent on Randy no matter what.

“What did you want anyway Mr. Lawrence?” She asked. There was an edge of anger in her voice and her mouth was scowling, though he couldn’t see it. “Umm…I came over here to see if Randy was conscious to see if he was ready for next week’s match.” He looked up, noticing Kolleen gazing back at him now, with furious eyes. The consoling feeling she had towards Mr. Lawrence had quickly evaporated. “Does he look like he’s ready?” She asked him. “N-No. I j-just…” “You just what?!” She interrupted him. “N-Now Miss Sparks. When Randy s-signed that contract he knew w-what he was getting himself into.” Mr. Lawrence said.

He was sweating profusely, which Kolleen noticed. She stood up, shoving her chair back a few inches. “Now you listen here, sir.” She started, walking towards him. Mr. Lawrence started to back up, towards the wall. “Randy may have known about this but it’s still your establishment that caused this predicament. Maybe that’s the reason why other leagues use fake wrestling; less injuries, you know?” Kolleen added snidely. She was only inches from Mr. Lawrence, who was now flat against the wall.

She had a finger pointing up at him and the scariest face Mr. Lawrence had ever seen. Just as she was about to unleash an entire canister of fury, a calming voice called out from behind her. “K-Kol?” Randy groaned. Her face instantly relaxed, and her eyes began to sting. “Ran-Ran?” She replied, running to his side. He reached up with a shaky hand, which she held onto tightly. “I’m here Ran-Ran.” He smiled, with a trembling mouth. “You… You’re here!” His voice sounded so crackly and dry. “Here, drink this.” Kolleen said, grabbing a cup of water. She held his head up, allowing him to sip from it.

When he was finished, Randy coughed hard. “What the hell happened?” He asked her. It was then that he noticed Mr. Lawrence back at the end of his bed. “What are you doing here sir?” “I just came to check up on you Randy, that’s all.” He replied. “I’ll be going then.” With that, Mr. Lawrence walked out of the room, leaving them two alone. All around, the blinding white walls and lights burned Randy’s eyes, which he tried shielding with his hand.

“Here, let me.” Kolleen stated, shutting the shades around his bed. She then dimmed the lights down, so they wouldn’t hurt so much. “Thanks.” “Shh.” She replied, putting a finger to his lips. “Just relax.” She couldn’t help herself but smile at him. “I’m so happy you’re okay.” She leaned her head in, resting her forehead against his. “I was so… s-so scared…” She cried. “I’m fine Kol.” Randy stated, putting his arms around her neck. “I’m so happy that you are. Now I can rest…” She trailed off. Soon thereafter, she passed out on his chest.

He began to run his trembling fingers through her hair. It felt so silky and warm to the touch. It took only moments for Kolleen’s steady sleeping breaths to escape her nose. Randy’s heart was beating even faster now from the rhythm her breathing created. “I love you so much. You have no idea Kol, you really don’t.” he whispered, kissing the top of her head. He closed his eyes slightly, to try and alleviate the pain in his head. Seconds later, Randy passed out. They lay there sleeping all the while with their hands holding each other, even though they consciously didn’t know it.
