Chapter 14: England

Natasha and Mia were exhausted from their flight to England. And still being a little hungover from the farewell party at Aria’s didn’t do them well. Natasha owned a small cozy apartment in London on the 3rd floor of the apartment building. Mia was thankful she didn’t have much luggage because carrying it all the way up would be a real pain in the ass. After both of the girls took a quick shower Natasha made two cups of chamomile tea for them and they went to catch up on some much needed sleep. When Mia opened her eyes it took her a while to orient herself again. She walked out of her room and saw Natasha sitting in the living room.

“Hi, Mia. Did you rest well?” Natasha asked when she saw Mia walking in.

“Mhmm. And you?”

“Okay good. I need to go to the shop to stock up my groceries. Do you want to join me?”

“Sure let me freshen up.” Mia took a quick shower and put on jeans and a camisole top. She grabbed her bag and joined Natasha in the living room.

“Ready?” Mia nodded. Natasha handed Mia a shawl. “Take this, the weather here is unpredictable.” They walked to a store nearby.

“So when do you start working again?” Mia asked. Natasha worked as an editor in a publishing company.

“I need to report Wednesday to catch up on what I missed and according to that I can work there or from home. Usually I work from there because I get bored at my house but now that you’re here I can work from home. That way I have more time to show you around.”

“You don’t have to take time off especially for me. I can explore on my own and when you have some free time we can hang out together. I don’t want to bother you too much.”

“Don’t worry about it okay.” They bought the groceries and head back to Natasha’s apartment. When they were in front of her apartment building she crashed into a guy, which made her drop her bags.

“Watch were you’re walking, clutz.” The guy said angrily.

“That also goes for you. You also have eyes to see where you are going. And I told you to stop calling me that.” She said looking annoyed at him. There was an unexplainable tension between them. Mia helped her pick up the things. “Do you have to search for reasons to annoy me? Also I’m waiting for my apology.”

“You’re annoying on your own, I don’t have to waste my energy on that. Why should I apologize to you? You’re the one that bumped into me.”

She got angrier at his comment. “If I’m such a waste of time then why are you still talking to me? I didn’t bump into you, you walked into me on purpose. Why do you have to be unbearable all the time?”

“I’m unbearable? Ha. You’re infuriating.”

“Arsehole” The vein on Natasha’s forehead was bulging. Mia never seen Natasha this angry, it’s kind of scary. Even though Mia has only known Natasha for a couple of weeks she knew Natasha had a calm personality. She watched the encounter in front of her helplessly.

The guy let out a sigh and as he walked away he said “I don’t have time for this.”

When the girls were inside Natasha’s apartment she was still angry. Mia could see that he really got under her skin.

“Ignorant obnoxious arrogant arshole” she muttered. Anger was flaring in her eyes along with irritation and frustration. “He’s such a bastard.” Natasha was now pacing in her living room.

“Hey, Natasha calm down I’ve never seen you this angry. Actually I have never seen you angry at all. Who was that guy?” Mia made an attempt to calm her down. She grabbed Natasha by her shoulders and walked with her to the couch so she would sit down.

“That dickhead is my upstairs neighbor.” Mia was taken by surprise when she heard her curse like that, it’s kind of funny. Mia tried to suppress her laughter. “He moved in around a year ago. And he is a complete utter arsehole. Can we please stop talking about him? He is giving me a headache.” Mia couldn’t hold her laughter anymore she burst out. She felt Natasha’s glare on her. “Do you care to explain what you find so funny?”

“Sorry it’s just I’ve never seen you like this, you went from you to being super angry the second you saw him. I didn’t know anyone could get under your skin like that. You always look so put together. It’s like he didn’t even need to try to rile you up.”

“He has that effect on people I guess. Now please stop talking about him.”

“Okay whatever. So what are we doing tonight?”

“Take-out and a movie? I’m still a little jetlagged from the trip. And that idiot drained all my energy.”

“Sure. Sounds good” They ordered Chinese food and watched To All the Boys I Loved before and after that binge watched The Vampire Diaries till they fell asleep.

The following day they went sight-seeing. The day started at the Tower Bridge and they visited the Tower of London, St Paul’s Cathedral, London Eye, Big Ben, Palace of Westminster and Westminster Abbey. Mia’s feet hurt from walking by the end of the day. She needed a long hot shower after which she joined Natasha in the living room with a cup of tea. They watched TV in silence.

“Hey you didn’t accept my friend request on facebook, I want to tag you in the pictures we took today.” Mia had been so engrossed with everything happening, she forgot about her social media accounts.

“Yeah I’ll do it right away. I haven’t logged in my accounts for some time now.” Mia logged in and accepted her request. She scrolled through the newsfeed and saw pictures that a friend of her posted. It was Olly and Nate’s wedding photos. They got married?? On the day I was supposed to get married to Nate. They looked happy and it looks like everyone enjoyed the reception. Mia stared at the pictures for a while, she didn’t know what to do or how to react to it. Natasha noticed a change in Mia’s mood and asks if everything is alright. Mia just said she’s tired and need to sleep. She excused herself end went straight to her bedroom. She lay down on the bed and looked at the pictures again. It looked like everything Mia and Nate planned for their wedding. That hurt her. Why did it hurt me? Those people made it very clear they don’t want me in their life. They despised me. Was it so easy to replace me? She logged off her accounts again and put the phone away, she stared to the ceiling till tiredness took over her eyes and she fell asleep haunted with her thoughts.

The following morning when Mia woke up her whole body ached. She dragged herself to the bathroom and took a long shower. She felt the warm water wash away her tension. After the shower she put on some comfortable clothes and went into the kitchen to find something to eat. She saw a note on the fridge.

‘It’s Wednesday so I start work today. I thought you might need the rest so I didn’t disturb you. I put your breakfast in the microwave, you can heat it up. There is a spare key on the kitchen counter in case you decide to head out. I’ll be back by 4 o’clock. Xoxo Natasha’

Mia heated up the breakfast Natasha left for her and sat down in front of the TV. Due to the splitting headache she had since she woke up she decided to stay in for now. She fell asleep in front of the TV, when she woke up it was already 3 p.m. She wasted the rest of the evening alternating between watching TV and sleeping. When Natasha returned from work Mia was awake and was trying to figure out when some documentary on volcano’s started playing. Natasha walked over to her and flopped on the couch beside Mia.

“Hey. I’ll cook dinner tonight.” Mia suggested. Natasha looked so tired, she didn’t even argue she just agreed. “You okay?”

“Yeah. Just work. I have to work from the office for some time. I hope you won’t mind.”

“No, I’m fine. I told you I can manage. Don’t worry about me.” Mia said giving her a wink and a smile.

“How about we go to a club Friday night?”

“That sounds fun.”
