Chapter 32: Italy- An unexpected surprise

Mia was staring out of her new bedroom window, this is going to be my room for the next two years. Mia was staying in a small house not too far from the new hotel site, provided by the company that hired her. It was a two story house made out of stone. She was staying in the upper part of the house. The best part about the one bedroom place was the balcony attached to the side. It had a beautiful view of the setting sun. Mia could tell it was an old building, the design and the materials the house was made of wasn’t used for construction anymore. But the way the house was maintained made her smile. She loved it when old buildings weren’t neglected. It never went unnoticed by her that people didn't value old architectural buildings with historical values.

Her meeting with Mr. Alessandro Salvatore, the owner of the new hotel, would be the next day. She had a day to get settled before jumping into work. She also needed to find somewhere where she could have her daily morning runs. It seemed Enzo had infected her with them. Lately she couldn’t seem to function in her daily life without it anymore, it was so therapeutic for her. So Mia unpacked and took a walk around the neighborhood. She saw a park at walking distance from the house so she knew where she would be for her morning runs. Thankfully she didn’t have to go grocery shopping because the kitchen was already stocked up. The rest of the evening she used to rest up.

The next morning Mia woke up early just like usual. She still couldn’t sleep for too long. She still had those nightmares which woke her up from the few hours of sleep she managed to get. She got ready for her morning run seeing she wouldn’t be sleeping anymore. After the run when Mia return to the house to get ready for the meeting she saw a car parked in front of her place, a black Maserati. She shrugged it off thinking it was of the people downstairs. But when Mia walked up the stairs she saw a man in front of her door. She couldn’t see his face but he seemed kind of familiar. The attractive man in front of her, who had his back to her, was wearing a precise fitting navy blue three piece suit. And he was staring at his watch while tapping with his feet.

“Can I help you with something?” Mia said when she was almost behind him. He turned around slowly and Mia knew why he seemed so familiar. Her eyes locked with a pair of very familiar coffee colored eyes that she kind of forgot due to all the drama in her life. Suddenly the only thing going through her head was the unforgettable kisses they shared. It was buried somewhere in the back of her mind and started to resurface hitting her with a wave of nostalgia. Her coffee colored eyed stranger… “Dave?” she whispered

“Crystal?” His confused expression changed to genuine happiness. He pulled her in a hug with his signature smirk on his face. “I thought I would never see you again.” He backed away just a little and then his lips capture hers. Mia place her hands on his chest and pushed him away just enough to break the kiss.

“Not that I’m not enjoying this but I’m sweating from my run and I need to shower.”

“I don’t mind you looking all sweaty and in your workout clothes. You are looking very sexy in those shorts.” Mia involuntarily blushed at the way his eyes raked her body. She pushed him away and walked inside. After a quick shower she put on the black dress she was supposed to wear to the meeting with Mr. Salvatore and walk out with her hair still in a messy bun and without make up on. She’d just finish getting ready after dealing with Dave. What is he doing here anyway? She walk out of the room and saw Dave making breakfast in the kitchen. He took off his jacket and tie and he rolled up the sleeves of his white shirt to a point his tattoos could be seen. Am I the only one who thinks that rolled up sleeves make a man look hotter?

“Enjoying the view?” he asked with a smirk. “Come eat some breakfast.”

Mia snapped out of her thoughts and walked into the kitchen. While he handed her a plate with toast he whispered in her ear. “Every time I think that you can’t get any more perfect, you blow my mind. You’re looking very very nice.” Goosebumps erupted all over her body. Mia cleared her throat.

“So care to explain why you are here?” she asked while they sat down on the bar-stool type of chairs beside the kitchen island.

“I actually came to see why my architect was late to our first meeting. But it seems I got a more delicious surprise by coming here.” He winked and took a bite from his toast.

“Architect?”

“Hhhmm her name is Mia Bennett.” Mia choked on her the bite of her toast and started coughing, then it clicked. He quickly handed Mia a glass of water and she gulped it down soothing her irritated throat.

“Wait you’re Alessandro Salvatore?”

“The one and only.”

“I thought your name was Dave.” He laughed at her remark.

“Dave is my middle name. It’s easier to use than Alessandro.”

“Owh well nice to meet you Mr. Alessandro I’m Mia Bennett. And I and definitely not late to our first meeting. We were supposed to meet at 10 a.m. and it’s not even 9 a.m. right now.”

“Yeah, I already guessed that you’re Mia. Why did you lie about your name Crystal?” he asked taking a sip from his coffee mug.

“Yep. Why would I give my personal information to a crazy psycho who kisses girls randomly on the street and terrorizes them till they give in to have a drink or in this case an ice-cream? And don’t forget the beach incident.” Mia rendered him speechless. He abruptly changed the subject.

“We were supposed to meet at 8 a.m.” Mia shook her head and showed him the mail his assistant send. It clearly said 10 a.m. He pulled out his phone, called someone and started yelling to the person on the other side of the line, which Mia was guessing was his assistant. By now he was pacing from one end of the kitchen to the other. Angrily he cut the call and murmured something under his breath.

“Imbecille!”

“Hey calm down. I’m sure it was just a mistake. Mistakes happen.” He was leaning on the kitchen counter and Mia walked up to him. She was standing right in front of him. His eyes locked with hers and he wrapped his arms around her waist. He stared into Mia’s eyes for a while, it felt like his gaze was piercing through her soul. He leaned in and their lips met, they stay like that for a little while, not moving. She felt his breaths fanning against her cheek. It was like he was absorbing everything and then their lips start moving at first it was slow but gradually the speed increased. She didn’t know why she was behaving like this but it felt too good to stop.

Neither of them was putting a stop to it. Their breathing started getting heavier. One of his hands traveled up to the side of her neck and his thumb was grazing her jawline. Their lips parted giving them the chance to catch their breath. When she opened her eyes she saw that his were still closed. Why does everything seem so easy with him?

Everything about him felt so familiar. The way he held her, the way he looked at her, the way Mia’s heart pounded when he looks at her. She hasn’t seen him for months and the second she does her heart beats like a maniac and still she is the most calm she can ever be when she is with him. She barely knows him and he doesn’t even seem like a stranger. Mia couldn’t explain the pull she felt to him.

One of her hands was by his clavicle and the other one was right where his heart was pumping like crazy just like hers. He finally opened his eyes and stared at her.

“You smell like strawberry and peaches. It just became my favorite scent.” He buried his face in the crook of Mia’s neck. “Will you out on a date with me?”

What??

“Uuhh what?”
