Chapter 34: Italy- The Eternal Battle Between The Heart and The Mind 2

Mia stirred awake and was greeted with a soothing rhythmic beat beside her ear. She smiled as she reminisced the events that occurred before she fell asleep. Mia looked up and Dave was looking at back at her with so much adoration it made her heart leap.

“Hi” he said, with his million dollar smile accompanied by those adorable dimples that Mia started to love, while giving her a peck on her nose and then one on her lips.

“Hi” Mia smiled back. They sat up, against the head board of the bed in silence for a while. When their eyes locked both of them blushed and smiled like idiots. Why are we getting shy now? He scratched at the back of his neck nervously and Mia started to fiddle with a lock of her hair. He finally spoke up.

“I tried to respect your wishes, but as you see that failed miserably. Every day I saw you it made me want to walk up to you and claim you as mine. And it got harder to control my emotions. When I saw the way the other men were looking at you I just lost it. I want you to be mine. Only mine. I never knew it would be possible to fall so fast for someone… What I’m trying to say is that I really really like you.. I .. I am falling for you and I can’t hold myself back any longer. So? Go out with me? I don’t care what people think or say. You are an amazing architect, but please don’t let that hold you back from the other things in life. Just because we work together doesn’t mean we can’t get involved personally. If we stay professional at work then we are free to do as we please in our personal life. Also I don’t care what people say. People will always talk so why waste our life thinking about them, isn’t it time for us to do what we love most?” he was silent before he spoke up again. “Something inside me is telling me that this isn’t just a onetime thing or a simple fling. I feel there is so much more and I don’t want to end up regretting not taking this chance right in front of me. Even if you say no I will do everything I can to court you until you say yes.”

He looked up and Mia was in a loss for words. He took her hand and placed a kiss on the back of her hand. Mia was attracted to him from the first moment they kissed, the attraction grew deeper and deeper. Why am I keeping myself from him? Is he right? Maybe it is time for me to do what I love the most. She stared in his eyes and it invoked something in her. She didn’t know what it was, but she decided to listen to her gut feeling and it was telling her to go for it. She couldn’t deny her feelings any longer.

“Okay” Mia said.

“Okay? I gave you such a big speech and okay is all I get?” Mia laughed and rolled her eyes.

“If you would let me finish talking.” Mia looked at him sarcastically. He nodded and Mia continued. “You’re right.”

“I am?” She glared at him. “Sorry continue.”

“It’s time for me to do things I want to without thinking about these so called people. So yes I will go out on a date with you. I want to try and make this work out too, but ..” She wanted to tell him about Nate and why she had been so hesitant on relationships but she wasn’t sure that she was ready to share her burdens with him.

He didn’t let her finish and pulled her in a hug and then kissed her. When they parted their lips he stared into Mia’s eyes while caressing her cheek. “No Tesoro. No ifs and no buts. I will prove to you that this isn’t a decision you’re going to regret.” They sat there for a while. Mia’s heart and mind were in a battle and she didn’t know who to listen to. Her heart wanted to surrender fully to this new feeling she was experiencing, but her mind was skeptical. Even though she agreed to go on a date with him her mind kept wandering to negative places. Then she remembered something theía Lara told her ‘trust and listen your heart it knows who is worthy to be in your life and who isn’t.’ So she decided to follow her advice, I hope you know what you’re doing heart.

Mia made a move to get up but he pulled her back into his embrace. “And where do you think you are going?”

“Shower and after that I was going to make dinner. I’m hungry.”

“Was that an invitation?”

“No.” Laughing she pushed him away, dashed to the bathroom and closed it before he could react. When she was finished getting ready Mia walked out. Dave wasn’t in the room any more. She heard voices outside. When she walked out he was putting down containers of food on the table.

“I ordered take out. I assumed you were too tired to cook.” He said smiling with his gorgeous dimples on display. His smile was beginning to become one of the things Mia liked the most about him. She smiled back.

“Do you want to freshen up? I left towels in the bathroom for you, but I don’t have spare clothes for you.”

“Don’t worry about my clothes. I’ll be right back.” He winked at her and walked out of the house to his car and grabbed something out of the trunk. And then headed to the bathroom. Mia grabbed the containers of food and went to the living room, she sat on the couch and turned on the TV. By the time she found something decent to watch he walked in the room. His messy hair hung over his forehead with water dripping from it and he wore a white shirt and grey sweat pants. Does he look hot in everything he wears? He caught her staring he smirked and winked at her. Mia blushed. He walked over, sat down beside her and grabbed a container. They started eating in silence.

“That was delicious.” Mia said after filling her stomach with food.

“Mhhmm I usually order food from there.” He saw her staring at him. “Do you want to ask me something, Tesoro?”

“uhm no.” he raised his eyebrow, but didn’t say anything.

“What are you doing Saturday?”

“Nothing much. Might go shopping seeing I need more work appropriate attire.” He let out a chuckle and Mia smiled too.

“Keep Saturday free, we’re going to Venice.”

They spend the rest of the night talking about various things till they fell asleep on the couch.
