"What the Hell is going on? This isn't some vacation that you can just decide to sleep 'til god knows when just because you feel like it!" I struggled to open my eyes, what in the world was going on?
"GET UP!" I sat up, pulling the blankets off my face.
"SHUT UP!" I yelled at my waker, seriously considering killing them.
"I SAID GET UP!" He screamed I don't really know what I thought I would accomplish but I decided to throw myself at him. I knocked him down- he hadn't been expecting this. And proceeded to use all my new knowledge from defense class to try to pin him down.
After what seemed like hours of wrestling around I still really hadn't made any progress, then bang! He had me pinned to the ground and was sitting on top of me staring at me. Both of us were breathing hard. I really looked at him for the first time, and almost had a heart attack.
KAYDEN!" I practically shrieked. How did I not realize it was him the whole time? I almost wanted to laugh but I looked at him again and saw the bruise on his cheekbone and his bloody nose and got this weird feeling- a mix of fear, excitement, and confusion.
"Will you stop screaming, woman!" He said quietly, he didn't seem angry.
"You started it…" I mumbled. He rolled his eyes.
"So what was all that about? Do you hate being woken up that badly?" He said with a grin.
"I'm really not sure…I just got really annoyed and that's the only way I could think of to shut up."
"Mmhmmmm…you just wanted to touch my sexy body." I looked up at him startled, was Kayden joking around with me? I laughed, maybe he didn't hate me like I thought.
"Oh yeah, that was it." I said sarcastically, suddenly realizing that we were in a kind of awkward position- he was still straddling me and pinning my arms down.
"I knew it!" He said and winked.
"Hey, why don't you let me go- I'll be good it promise." I laughed, he blinked real quickly like he just realized the same thing I did a moment ago.
"Oh yeah, of course…" He awkwardly got to his feet and reached down, taking my hand and pulling me to my feet.
"Thanks." I said, straightening my night gown thinking that I was lucky it hadn't ripped.
"So what's your excuse?" He asked.
"Why weren't you up? You know we were supposed to have our lessons an hour ago."
"Oh, I didn't realize it was so late. I woke up this morning and…and I saw that," I pointed to the note Tristan had left, "And I was upset set so I crawled back in bed, I didn't realize I was sleeping for so long. I'm sorry."
"What was so upsetting about that note?" He asked curiously.
"Well…" He didn't wait for my response, he reached out and grabbed it. I watched as he read it, he looked up at me and then back down at the note and started laughing.
"What?" I said angrily, I didn't like people mocking me.
"He is such a jerk!" He started laughing even harder.
"He didn't…he didn't actually leave!" Kayden gasped out between laughs, "He never planned to go, he just made it all up!"
"What!" I practically screamed.
"He made it up."
"I going to kill him!" I muttered to myself, practically running to the door.
"Oh no you don't!" said kayden as he grabbed me around the waist and pulling my back.
"Let me go!" I screamed, trying to kick and punch my way out of his arms.
"Deirdre, calm down!" He said kicking the door shut and standing in front of it before he let me go.
"I hate you!" I screamed.
"Good, it will make things so much easier." He said calmly.
"Ahhhh! Why do you have to be such a bitch? Just let me go!"
"Bitch? Harsh words for a lady to be using." He commented.
"Shut up! Why won't you let me out?"
"Because you need to calm down first, you can't just go down there screaming and carrying on like a crazy woman. What would Tristan think?"
"That maybe he shouldn't have lied to me because I'm gonna fuck him up!" Kayden looked at me shocked for a second then started laughing,
"I can see why he likes you so much, you got a lot of spirit."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing, just what I said."
"Still no one just lies to me and gets away with it."
"I understand, but you can't let him see how much it bothers you. It will give him more power over you."
"Power over me? Why would he want that? What are you hinting at?"
"Nothing, don't worry about it. Go, talk with him." He stood aside and opened the door. I looked at him as I left, he had a strange look in his eyes but I couldn't place it…but somehow it frightened me- it made me feel like something terrible was about to happen.
"Hello Darling," I said as I walked into Tristan's office, I had half expected it to be empty but of course he was there.
"Deirdre?" He looked surprise, then I saw him look at me closer and he got a horrified look on his face, "Deirdre! What the hell happened?"
"Oh nothing…" I said running my fingers through my hair, trying to put it into some kind of order. I thought that's what he was talking about. He shook his head and took my hand leading me to the mirror on the other side of his office,
"Look, tell me again nothing happened!" He sounded kind of angry. I looked in the mirror and gasped I had a huge bruise on my left cheekbone and my whole jaw was swollen. I had various bruises all over my arms and chest and I was sure everywhere else on my body.
"Well…" I started, not really sure how to explain the situation.
"Deirdre, who did this to you?" He asked quietly, taking both of my hands and looking at me intently. I looked down trying to think of the best way to put it.
"I'm okay, really! You should see Kayden-"
"KAYDEN?!" Tristan bellowed, I flinched.
"Tristan, it really not that serious! I-"
"I'm going to murder him! How could he do this to you?" He stalked towards the door.
"Tristan no! Listen to me!" I cried and chased him, wrapping my arms around him and trying to keep him from moving.
"Deirdre get off of me! There's no excuse for what he did!"
"I ATTACKED HIM!" I yelled desperately.
"What?" Tristan stopped, he seemed genuinely surprised.
"He came in yelling at me because I had slept so late that I missed our lessons and I got really angry so attacked him…he didn't punch me or anything. We just wrestling until he pinned me- I didn't even realize it was him 'til then." I said quickly.
"You attacked Kayden because he woke you up?" He asked incredulously. I nodded.
"You are amzing!" he said, starting to laugh.
"I don't see how that's so funny!" I said annoyed because he was laughing at me.
"Most people are scared to death to even talk to Kayden and you decide to attack him!" Tristan started laughing harder.
"Hey!" I said, remembering why I came down.
"Hmm?" I smacked him across the face.
"What the hell was that for?" He said looking more confused then angry.
"You lied to me!"
"Yes! You told me you were leaving, you made me think you had already left! That's really fucked up!"
"Deirdre, don't curse like that." He said, like I had offended him.
"Shut up! I'll talk how I want! You lied to me."
"I know, I'm sorry, but it had to be done."
" I had to see how you would react, I couldn't wait 'til we were in the middle of one the missions to see how you would react to something like that."
"Deirdre, I really am sorry I upset you but we're better off now."
"Well it will be easier for you next time."
"Right…" I wasn't convince but I guess it made sense, but I still thought it was a messed up thing to do. But I wasn't a spy so maybe I just didn't understand these kind of things.
"So you hungry?" He asked after a few seconds.
"Okay, I'll go talk to the cooks while you get dressed."
"Sure! I'll only take like 15 minutes!"
"No need to rush, it will take maybe 20 minutes to get lunch together."
"Alright, I'll see you in a little bit!" I stood on my tip toes to kiss him and then skipped up to my room in a very good mood. Maybe I should fight someone every time I wake up…I laughed it's been a crazy day and I had only been awake for maybe two hours.
Tristan and I had already sat down when Kayden came in, I winced when I saw him- his face looked a lot worse then I remembered. His poor nose was swollen same with his right eye. The bruise on his cheek bone looked almost black and his lip was a little swollen and red too. He hadn't hit me at all but unfortunately for him I had punched him…
"Dear god Kayden!" Tristan exclaimed and started to laugh. Kayden just glared at him and flipped up his middle finger.
"Kayden! You're in front of a lady!" Scolded Tristan jokingly. Kayden rolled his eyes,
"Yeah lady…how about a wild savage!" He laughed.
"Watch it!" I warned him, trying to angry even though I was fighting down laughter myself.
"Hey Tristan you can laugh now- but just wait! One of these days you're really gonna piss her off and then you won't be laughing!" Kayden said with a smirk.
"I hope I can avoid that! From what she did to you I'm sure she's quite vicious." I shook my head and started to eat, I was too hungry to wait another minute. The boys sat down and began to eat too. It was quiet as we all sat there enjoying lunch.
I looked up every once and while and surprised to see that Tristan and Kayden both kept glancing at me when I wasn't looking, I figured that they were still trying to get used my new look.
After lunch I felt like relaxing for once so I took a book and went to read in the hammock by the lake. It was so peaceful and beautiful down there that I couldn't help but feel happy. After a while I put my book down and started walking around the lake, it was sunny and hot. I took off my shoes and stockings and dipped my feet- the water felt amazing. I was sitting there watching the dragonflies glide and dive over the water when Tristan and Kayden came riding up.
"You want to go swimming with us?" Asked Tristan as they dismounted.
"I don't know how."
"Well then we'll have to teach you, it's easy and it is a really good thing to know- there's a lot of water in the world." Tristan said with a smile.
"Okay." I got up and took my dress off, I had my slip underneath so it wasn't really scandalous or anything. I tried not to stare as the boys took off there shirts, it wasn't very often that I saw shirtless men, let alone ones with bodies like these two had…
"Lets go!" Kayden said and started running towards the dock.
"I bet I'll beat you in!" Tristan yelled, taking off trying to catch up to Kayden. I watched as they both leaped off the dock into the water causing huge splashed. I walked over to the end of the dock and sat down letting my legs dangle in the water.
"Come on in!" Said Tristan, making his way over to me.
"What if I can't stand?" I asked nervously.
"You'll be able too, it's shallow here- look!" He said as he stood up, the water came about to his stomach. I sucked my breath and slowly lowered myself in, fighting my panic- I was scared I would just keep sinking but my feet hit the bottom in seconds.
"See its not so bad at all!" Said Tristan, reaching out and taking my hand. I smiled, it felt amazingly refreshing.
"Hey Deirdre!" Kayden called, just as I turned to look at him he splashed me.
"What the hell!" I yelled and charged at him, momentarily forgetting I couldn't swim. He wasn't far and my momentum somehow carried me to him. I tried to tackle him but that didn't really work well in the water. I ended up clinging to him because I realized it was now too deep for me to stand. Kayden was laughing so hard I wanted to smack him and I could tell Tristan wanted to laugh too- he was just better at hiding it.
"Tristan help me!" I cried pathetically. Kayden started laughing even harder, I glared at him but that did nothing.
"Come to me," Tristan said standing only about three feet away. I shook my head.
"Deirdre come on, push off from Kayden. I'm not going to let you sink." I shook my head again, harder.
"You're such a little girl!" Kayden said with a smirk, I would have punch him but iwas afraid to let go with one hand.
"Come on Deirdre, or do you really like being that close to Kayden?" Tristan teased me. That did it, I felt that death would be better than anyone thinking I remotely liked Kayden…I don't know why I felt so strongly about that though. Anyway I left go and flung myself towards Tristan, needless to say I didn't drown.
"See, you're fine." Tristan said and wrapped his arms around me. I laughed and gave him a kiss, he kiss me back until Kayden decided to be rude and splash us.
"Stop!" I said angrily and splashed him back, that sparked a splashing battle which ended with Tristan telling us that if we didn't stop he would kill us both. Once the splashing stopped, Tristan started teaching me to swim. It was really easy once I got over my fear of drowning if I wasn't holding onto someone, it was so much simpler than I had ever thought. I used to think it was some complicated thing that took years to learn but at the end of the day I would swim well enough to keep myself afloat for while and I felt a million times better about it.
