Chapter 9: the legend

I waited patiently until the pack meeting was over. I hadn't really paid attention to what Alpha Eli was saying. I got up off the ground. My legs were stiff and my feet had fallen asleep on me. I wobbled a bit when I stood up.

"Stick with me, I'll show ya what to do." Luna said to me. The werewolves began to disperse.

"Okay." I said and moved to stand beside her. I pressed up against her as werewolves pushed around us.

Over the head of the werewolves, I saw Alpha Eli walking away. I tapped Luna and pointed. She nodded and grabbed my wrist. She had a firm grip, even though she was small and looked fragile.

She dragged me through the crowd, weaving between them easily. I watched as Alpha Eli's dark-haired head walked the opposite direction of the others. Luna weaved through the crowd, dragging me behind her.

Finally we escaped the crowd and she dragged me towards Alpha Eli. He walked behind some crates. Luna continued to follow him through the maze of crates. Eventually she stopped suddenly. I slammed into her. She was pushed forwards some when I ran into her.

"Wait here." She told me, letting go of my wrist and disappearing into the crates. I stood there, I began to get bored so I started whistling one of my favorite songs.

I was so busy whistling, that I didn't hear anyone coming up from behind me. I felt someone breathing on my neck. I stopped whistling and swung around. I grabbed a knife from my pocket- somehow I had my stuff I'm my new clothes- and yanked it up as I turned.

My knife stopped at the neck of Alpha Eli. He calmly lifted his hand and pushed the knife down.

"What did I ever do to you?" He asked me, raising an eyebrow.

"One, you attacked me. Two, you were being mean to Luna. Three, you made me leave the one person I've sworn to protect. That is what you did to me. Do I need to go on?" I replied with venom.

"Like you haven't been attacked before. Also, good reflexes. No more whistling though, you won't be able to hear if anyone is creeping up on you." He told me calmly.

"Grrrrrrr!" My wolf growled at him through me, I was surprised at how much the growl sounded like a wolf coming from my mouth.

"Tell your wolf not to growl at me." He told me.

"Why should I? Grrrrrrr!" I said before my wolf growled again.

"One, I'm your alpha, I could order you to do it and you would have to obey. Two, it's annoying." He replied.

"No. Grrrrrrrr!" I told him, my wolf growling.

"Okay, guess we're doin' this the hard way." He said and took a deep breath before continuing. "I demand that you make your wolf be quiet." His voice seemed to hold a power to it.

I just stood there, after a pause, my wolf growled at him again.

"I told you to tell your wolf to stop growling and be quiet!" His voice held the same power, but it held no effect on me.

"No!" I said sternly. "Grrrrrrrr!" My wolf replied in agreement.

"So it's true." I heard Alpha Eli whisper under his breath.

"What's true?" I asked, raising my eyebrow at him.

"I can't tell you. What did you want?" He asked sternly.

"I wanted to ask you about how I spoke with my mind before I was a werewolf and in the pack. Now, I want to know what you mean." I said, looking at him with a stern gaze.

He sighed, and seemed to have trouble speaking, for his mouth opened and closed, but no sound ever came.

Finally he took a deep breath and spoke. "There is a legend, about a girl that no one held power over. The legend goes like this," he took a deep breath before continuing.

"There will be a girl, no one can hold power over her. She will come to you and you will change. She will hold power over others, but others will not hold a power over her. She will either save the world, or bring its destruction. She must choose by the time she's eighteen." He quoted, then took a few deep breaths.

I couldn't speak, was he meaning me? No, he couldn't mean me. I was just a girl, a girl that holds no powers. I was just a normal girl, wasn't I? I asked myself

Apparently not. SadieDash said.

Ugh, does he mean me? I asked her, knowing now that anything is possible.

I don't know. She replied. I have a bad feeling. Where's Luna? She said abruptly.

I haven't seen her since she went to look for Alpha Eli. I replied nervously.

"Get Luna here now!" I shouted at Alpha Eli.

"What? Why? Don't tell me what to do!" He replied, suprised by my outburst.

"Just do it!" I screamed, power flooded my voice.

He shook his head, as if in pain. Then I heard him yell for Luna with his mind. She didn't answer.

Everyone! Look for Luna, now! He ordered the pack. Suddenly there was a rush of noise as everyone began looking for her. I began panicking.

Deep breaths. SadieDash instructed.

I did what she told me to and it cleared my mind. I ran off in the direction Luna had gone. I ran between stacks of crates. I saw a blur of motion to my left and a spun around.

"Who's there?" I screamed. No one answered, so I screamed again. "Who's there?"

There came a groan and then a raspy voice replied. "My name is Prince Carl of the vampires." The raspy voice said.

"Show yourself!" I demanded, not noticing I was forcing him to obey me.

A figure detached itself from the shadows. It was a young man, he had short, light brown hair. He had pale skin and dark green eyes. He had to slight indents on his bottom lip were his fangs pressed down on it. His face was twisted with pain.

"So it's true." He said in his raspy voice.

"I don't know what you're talking about, but why the heck would it not be true!" I replied sarcastically. Everyone! Hurry to me! I need help! I yelled at the pack.

"You, you're the one from the legend." He said and gave a dark chuckle, exposing his two pointed teeth.

"Why does everyone keep saying that?" I screamed at no one in particular.

"Cause you are." He replied his voice raspy.

"Ugh, just shut up and tell me why you're here." I demanded. He shook his head and gave me a dark smile.

"No." He told me.

"What are you doing here?" I demanded again.

He got a pained look on his face that made him seem twenty years older. "I was sent here, to find out where the strongest werewolf pack was." He said and gasped when he was done, as if he'd been holding his breath.

I opened my mouth, about to ask him something else, when I heard a werewolf approaching. I snapped my mouth shut. He looked at me, then into the shadows behind me.

I didn't dare look behind me, instead I looked him straight in the eye. I could hear the werewolf approaching. I stared the vampire down. I heard the werewolf come closer. My eyes darted behind me and back to the vampire.

That one little movement was all he needed though. As I looked back at him, I saw him lunge. It wasn't aimed behind me though, it was aimed at me.
