Chapter 13

“Mph?” I blinked, waking up to the sun once again spilling on my face. I pushed my scraggly hair out of my face and wiped my eyes a few times, getting adjusted to the blinding sun before pushing my tired body up. Hugo stirred, and soon he was sitting up in bed next to me, brushing his own hair out of his eyes.

“Morning Hugo,” I whispered, my voice cracked from just waking up. He chuckled softly.

“Morning Adrienne. How did you sleep?” He asked. He stretched his arms and I pointedly looked away as to not be caught eyeing his muscles flex.

“Really good. I kinda forgot Mrs. Morano was right next to me,” I said sheepishly. He laughed again. I looked past him to the clock. 9:30.

“Well, we might as well wake up early. Maybe we’ll be able to watch some T.V,” I suggested. Hugo yanked the covers off both of us and got out of bed, me following him carefully to not wake anybody else.

“Do you want to take the bathroom first? I have to look for my clothes,” Hugo asked. I nodded.

“Since we have extra time today, I just might take a shower so if I’m sleepy tonight I can just brush my teeth and change,” I said, grabbing a pair of skinny jeans and a white shirt, along with other bathroom necessities.

I rushed in the bathroom, quickly brushing my teeth, showering, and throwing my clothes on while I combed my hair into a ponytail. I heaved a sigh of relief as I left the cramped bathroom and walked to my backpack. Hugo was scrolling through his phone on the bed, hopefully making sure that we get a hotel this time.

“The bathrooms all yours Hugo,” I said. He turned to me, his eyes roaming over my body for a moment before nodding and grabbing his things.

“Okay. I’ll be quick so we can catch the weather report,” he said, shutting the door to the bathroom. I rolled my eyes. Natural Hugo. Worried more about the trip than his personal hygiene. My eyes spotted my phone, which was charging on the desk.

“I should probably update Adrien on how we’re doing.” I mumbled to myself. I unplugged my phone, putting Charlie’s on charge instead as I walked by the door, dialing Adrien’s number. Hopefully he was already up.

“Hello?”

“Hey Adrien!” I whispered happily. “How are you?”

“Adrienne? I’m great! How are you? How’s France?” Adrien asked.

“It’s...okay. We have had plenty of mishaps though,” I said.

“Like what? Love problems?” He asked. I blushed.

“You know me too well,” I mumbled, glancing behind me when I heard a soft grunt. It was just Charlie moving in the bed.

“So what’s up?” Adrien asked.

“Well...Hugo and I have gotten closer. He and I kinda shared a bed every night and we end up snuggling each other,” I said sheepishly. Adrien laughed from the other line.

“Dang you better have pictures sis! I’d love to see those! So what else happened?”

“I...uh...met Mom and Dad?” I said hesitantly. The line went quiet on the other side.

“Adrien?! Adrien are you still there?!” I asked worriedly.

“You met Mom and Dad?” He repeated quietly. I gulped.

“Yeah. At the beach yesterday...”

“What did they say?”

“They said they wanted me back.”

“And what did you say?”

“I said no. When they insisted, Louise lied saying I was married to Hugo and I was-uh-pregnant.” I said, laughing a bit at the memory.

“That was a good one,” Adrien said, his laughter being heard on the other end. “Erm...you’re not pregnant, are you?” I laughed.

“No! Of course not. It was just an act to fool Mom and Dad because of their beliefs,” I said.

“Well you definitely threw them off” Adrien said. I nodded.

“Hey, you’re coming back next Friday, right?” I asked.

“Yeah, why?” Adrien asked as Hugo stepped out of the bathroom. He wore a tight green shirt and long jeans, just like me.

“Adrienne?” Adrien asked. I blinked, almost forgetting I was talking to him.

“Huh? Oh yeah sorry. Um... we’re having a class sleepover on Sunday at Hugo’s. Can I go?” I asked.

“Sure,” Adrien said. He paused. “I gotta go now. We’re heading to the Sistine Chapel today for our guide so we have to get there early. Have fun Sis! Love you!”

“Love you too,” I said, cutting the call and going to sit next to Hugo on our side of the bed.

“Was that Adrien?” Hugo asked.

“Yeah. Just checking up on him,” I said. He nodded.

“Emily wasn’t allowed to bring her phone to camp and I doubt Luke would pick up if I called him,” Hugo said, rolling his eyes at his own joke. I laughed.

“Do you want to watch some T.V?” Hugo asked.

“What about them?” I asked, jerking my head to our classmates and teacher.

“It’s 9:40. At 10 we’ll wake them,” Hugo said. I nodded, laying back on my pillow and switching the T.V on.

“Can we look at the weather channel first?” Hugo asked.

“Sure, but then I want to check out the kids channel.”

“Why?”

“Because Miraculous might play on it” I said, reminiscing about my favorite show as a kid. Hugo rolled his eyes and smiled.

“Sure,” He said. Satisfied, I switched briefly to the weather channel, watching the weatherman explain the rain pattern and the temp. today. I sighed. Adrien was the one who loved watching the weather, not me. I preferred TMZ or Access Hollywood. I liked gossip.

“Okay, you can switch now,” Hugo said. I smiled and quickly began switching channels until a red spotted outfit flashed from the T.V as I switched.

“Whoa!” I said, quickly switching back.

“What is it?” Hugo asked.

“Miraculous!” I squealed, jumping a bit as I re watched my favorite show. It was finished now, but when I first found it I was 11 and completely in love with it.

“Oh that’s Miraculous?! My sister loved that show. Though, I think she just had a crush on Chat Noir and didn’t say anything,” Hugo said.

“Well...he does look good as an adult,” I hummed. Hugo rolled his eyes.

“Yeah right,” He snorted.

“He does!” I defended. I narrowed my eyes mischievously. “If it helps your sister, I also had a crush on Chat Noir.” I paused. “And I guess I still do.” Hugo’s eyes narrowed.

“You do?” He asked.

“Kinda. He’s cute as a teen, but hot as an adult!” I said. I laughed and Hugo turned away from me, blushing.

“Don’t worry!” I ruffled his hair playfully. “I ship him with Marinette, obviously!”

“Not Ladybug?” Hugo asked, holding my wrist.

“A bit, but I was an avid MariChat shipper as a kid,” I said. Hugo laughed, glancing at the time.

“It’s ten. You wanna wake them up?” He asked.

“Sure.” I shook Lucas and Charlie.

“Hm?” Lucas mumbled.

“It’s morning guys! Wake up!” I shouted. I tapped Mrs. Morano gently as Charlie stumbled into the bathroom.

“Yes? Is something wrong?” Mrs. Morano asked sleepily.

“No, but it’s ten so I figured we should wake you up,” I said a bit timidly. Mrs. Morano sat up and looked at the screen. She smiled.

“Miraculous eh? Haven’t watched that show in a while,” she said.

“You watch it?” Hugo asked.

“My niece does. Sometimes I watch it with her,” Mrs. Morano said, picking her clothes out.

“When did you guys wake up?” Charlie asked, dressed in jeans and a green shirt.

“About thirty minutes ago. Well, technically I woke up and then woke Hugo up,” I said, slipping off the bed.

“You guys were pretty tangled last night,” Mrs. Morano said. I switched the T.V off and blushed.

“Yeah...I guess.” I said, my heart doing flips in my chest. I packed my things into my bag as Mrs. Morano and Lucas finished in the bathroom.

“Let’s hurry and eat breakfast. We’re driving to the alps today,” Mrs. Morano said.

“Should we get our sweaters?” Charlie asked.

“Yes. And a hat. Just in case,” Mrs. Morano said. I pulled out a black beanie and my grey zip up sweater. I tied the sweater around my waist and pulled the hat on my head.

“Cute,” Charlie said, coming to stand next to me as we waited for the elevator.

“Eat up,” Mrs. Morano said. “We’ve got a lot of driving today.”

A lot is an understatement.

It’s almost two in the afternoon, and we’re still driving.

Charlie and Jeremy permanently switched seats, which was fine with Nina. That...didn’t go so well with Lucas though. We had a fun breakfast, for once. Nina was talking more often with me and Louise was back to teasing me.

At the moment, we were driving up a steep mountain. There was ice on the rocks and the road was smooth, yet a bit bumpy.

Charlie was scrolling through her phone, sometimes taking pictures of the scenery. Nina and Jeremy were sleeping peacefully in the back with Lucas. Louise was also dozing and Antony was giving Mrs. Morano directions to someplace. I was leaning on Hugo with the blanket above the three of us. His arm was wrapped around my shoulder as he gazed out the window, occasionally sifting his fingers through my hair. It felt good, giving me warm, fuzzy feelings inside my stomach.

I wondered why he acted the way he did. So gentle, soft and caring with me. Just me! Not Louise, Nina, or Charlie! Just me. And when he growled at Jeremy at the airport! Was he jealous?

No. Not Hugo. Hugo rarely showed his emotions. It was very hard to read him. Sometimes, i’d see his feelings by his gaze or his eyes. But he was always putting himself last...like me.

“Hey, Adrienne,” Charlie mumbled softly.

“Yes?”

“How many kids do you want?” She asked.

“What?” I doubled, making sure Charlie just asked me that. She was never interested in children or having any for the matter. Come to think of it, she’d always left whenever we mentioned a future.

“How many kids do you want in the future?” Charlie asked again. I bit my lip, thinking hard. Hugo turned his head as I thought, suddenly interested.

“Maybe...mm... two? Yeah, two,” I decided.

“Really?” Hugo asked, as if he wasn’t expecting that number. I nodded.

“Yeah. A boy and a girl,” I said.

“What if you get two boys?” Charlie asked.

“Then i’ll keep trying until I get a girl,” I said.

“What if your husband only wants boys?” Charlie asked again. Hugo coughed.

“This isn’t 101 questions Charlie,” he teased. Charlie rolled her eyes.

“Yeah yeah whatever. Now seriously! What if?!”

“Then I’ll divorce him,” I said promptly. Hugo whistled.

“Wow. Harsh Adrienne,” He joked.

“Well I would. I know it’s both parents decisions but then all this would already be on the plate,” I said.

“Okay...what about you Hugo?” Charlie asked.

“Um...whatever my wife wants. I don’t care. As long as I have a family,” he said. My hear burned a bit, knowing that this romance between us might only be temporary, and that one day Hugo would be married and have a family of his own.

“Hm...so, out of curiosity, if you married Adrienne...then?” Charlie asked.

“Then I’d be the happiest man alive. And my family would be incredible” Hugo said without the slightest bit of hesitation. I blushed as I felt his squeeze me closer to him. Charlie smiled and nodded.

“Great,” she said.

“What about you?” Hugo asked.

“Me?” Charlie seemed taken aback by the question.

“Yeah. You want a family with Lucas, don’t you?” Hugo asked.

“Yeah. Don’t you?” I asked.

“I-I do. It’s just...” Charlie hesitated.

“What Charlie?” I asked quietly.

“I’m so tomboyish! Who would want a mother like me”? She asked.

“Who wouldn’t?” Antony asked from the front seat.

“What?” Charlie asked.

“Boys love tomboyish moms. Girls too. My own mom was a tomboy!” Antony explained.

“My mom played sports a lot with me and my siblings,” Hugo said.

“See Charlie. Having a family is amazing. We’re not saying you have to, but you are who you are. I would’ve done anything for my mom just to do something with me. Weather she was tomboyish or no,t” I said, swallowing the small lump in my throat. After the meeting with my parents, I realized that I didn’t need them to be happy. Charlie blushed and smiled.

“Thanks. I think I’d have three kids. All girls,” She said.

“Do I see future U.S.A soccer champs?” I asked. She laughed.

“Quit it,” She said.

“What about you Tony? Any future family idea’s with Louise?” Hugo asked.

“Yeah. We were planning on moving to El Salvador and having five kids,” Antony said. Louise stirred, smiling in her sleep.

“Dang! Five kids?! You sure you’ll be able to stay sane?” Charlie teased. Antony huffed.

“I should be.”

“What gender?” Hugo asked.

“We were thinking four boys and one girl. Mostly because Lou wants to pamper our daughter,” he said.

“I would most definitely pamper my daughter too,” Hugo said.

“You seem like that type of dad who would pamper all his kids,” I said.

“I guess. I just love kids,” Hugo said. I felt his heart hammer faster in his chest. His thumb rubbed soothing circles on my waist that made my body relax much more in the cold.

“Anyway, what about Nina? Did she mention any future plans?” Charlie asked.

“She said she wanted kids. She never specified the gender. She also said she wanted to live in Spain with her extended family,” I said softly, my body slowly relaxing as his rubs increased. Luckily, Charlie couldn’t see what Hugo was doing as it was under the blanket. I felt my stomach and a knot tighten deeper in it.

“What about you Mrs. Morano?” Antony asked.

“Hm? What about me sweetie?”

“Did you ever plan a family when you were our age?” Antony asked.

“Hm. When I met my husband, we were on a field trip like this. I had a crush on him, and he had one on me, yet we never said anything until our last day of vacation when I blurted out that I liked him”. Mrs. Morano laughed, gripping the steering wheel. “He was so flustered, yet managed to say the same thing to me. We’d been together ever since then. He proposed on our University trip and we were married right after. We had planned on having two kids, just like Adrienne, but...” Mrs. Morano stopped for a moment. “But sometimes you just don’t get your way in life,” she finished, her voice coming out strained.

“Sorry,” Antony said quickly, knowing he’d hit a soft spot. Mrs. Morano laughed.

“It’s alright dear. You were bound to ask. Besides, we’re planning on adopting,” she said.

“From where?” Charlie asked.

“India. We found an adorable girl to adopt,” Mrs. Morano said.

“What’s her name?” Antony asked.

“Surya,” Mrs. Morano said.

“That is a nice name,” I mumbled, trying to think of anything but Hugo’s fingers on my waist.

“So...now that we got babies down, any names?” Charlie asked. Antony groaned.

“What is this? Interrogation with Charlotte Lake?” He asked. Charlie glared at him.

“Don’t call me Charlotte,” she hissed. Antony raised his hands in surrender, turning to face the large window.

“Anyway, names?” Charlie asked, turning to us. I blushed.

“Um...maybe Antares for a boy and Luna for a girl,” I said.

“Nice. I like Luna. What about you Hugo?” Charlie asked.

“Whatever my wife wants. But...I do want middle names,” he said.

“Oh yeah? Like what?” Antony asked.

“Mm...if it’s a boy, then Jonathan. If it’s a girl, then Penelope or Hannah” Hugo said.

“Those are cute names Hugo,” I said, already picturing them on Antares and Luna’s birth certificates. I blushed.

“I was thinking of Victoria, Lily and Audrey,” Charlie said.

“I like Lily. Is it short for Lillian?” I asked. Charlie nodded.

“What about you Antony? You and Louise pick any names?” Hugo asked.

“Yep. We picked Dimitri, Lucien, Noah and Perseus for the boys and Brooklyn or Cora for the girl,” Antony said. Charlie yawned and relaxed in her seat.

“I’m gonna take a nap now. Drink all these name ideas,” Charlie winked at me. “I just might steal Luna”.

“No way. Find your own name,” I said. Charlie shrugged and pulled my blanked underneath her chin.

“I’m gonna doze as well. We have like, two to three hours left,” Antony said. I watched as he folded the map and placed it in the seat compartment before leaning his head on Louise, his arm wrapped around her. He placed a soft, chaste kiss on her forehead before shutting his eyes and joining her in sleep.

That left only Hugo and I.

“Hm,” I sighed, staring dreamily at them.

“Something wrong?” H

“Not really. I just wished I had a love life like them.”

“What do you mean?” Hugo asked.

“Like, soft soothing words and sweet kisses to passionate ones. I’d give for that,” I said. Hugo licked his lips. His beautiful, Cupid’s bow pink lips and looked at me, smiling gently.

“You know what Adrienne. I bet this trip you’ll get your wish,” he said.

“Really? With who? I doubt it,” I said, nuzzling deeper into his soft, cotton shirt. He continued his circles on my waist, his other hand pulling the blanket higher over me.

“You’ll see Adrienne,” He said. He paused, leaning his head on mine, nuzzling it briefly before he stilled. I thought for a few moments, debating weather I should say it or not, and then I finally made up my mind.

“Hugo?”

“Hm?”

“Thank you,” I mumbled.

“For what?” Hugo asked.

“For-” I paused, smiling. “For everything.”

“Adrienne? Adrienne you awake?” Charlie’s rough voice asked. I groggily opened my eyes, lifting myself slowly from Hugo’s warm body.

“What happened?” I asked.

“We’re here,” Jeremy said from the back.

“You’re finally awake. You missed 101 questions with Charlie,” I said.

“Darn it! I really like that game,” Jeremy said.

“Okay. Then riddle me this Jeremy. How many kids are you and Nina having and what are their names?” Charlie asked, slipping her jacket over her body. I untied mine from my waist and was about to put it on until I felt it taken from my grasp. I looked up and closed my eyes as Hugo slipped his own warm jacket over my body.

“Thank you,” I said, smiling at him. He cupped my cheek, pulling me to look up at him while Jeremy debated his answer.

“I would never let you wear such a thin jacket in this cold,” He said.

“What about you?” I asked. Hugo held up another jacket he’d been sitting on the whole time.

“I’ll wear this one,” he said.

“We would have ten kids! Eight boys and two girls” Jeremy shouted suddenly, breaking our moment.

“Really?!” Charlie and Nina asked.

“Yep” Jeremy confirmed. I patted Nina’s shoulder.

“Good luck Nina,” I said. She blushed and giggled.

“I’ll need it,” she said, faking a groan.

“What about names?” Charlie asked. She jumped out of the van and let Jeremy push her seat down. “Sitting there is much easier.”

“Um...I’ll let Nina pick,” Jeremy mumbled, jumping out of the van.

“Nina?” Hugo asked.

“Um...for the girls I’ll pick Rose and Katrina. For the boys-dang eight boys-I’d pick Jace, Alexander, Sebastian, Dominic, Shawn, James, Avery and Achille,” Nina said.

“That’s a lot of boys,” I remarked, letting Hugo lift me down, though I could do it myself. I liked the feeling of his hands on my hips.

“Where are we?” Lucas asked, his voice slightly groggy. Charlie kissed him then turned his head to the beautiful view of the town.

“Whoa!” I exclaimed, moving closer to the barrier to gaze at the beautiful scene. I felt Hugo behind me and blushed, leaning into his chest.

“Wanna take a selfie?” Hugo asked, pulling his phone out.

“Sure,” I said. We turned around and took a quick picture before Mrs. Morano tapped us.

“Turn around,” she said. I turned, and almost gasped.

Staring right back at me, was a large, exceptionally beautiful glacier.

“I-Is that an actual glacier?” Lucas asked.

“Yep. Let’s go,” Mrs. Morano said. Jeremy and Nina, along with Antony and Louise were already there. Antony and Jeremy were having a snowball fight and Louise and Nina were attempting to climb higher up the mountain.

“Let’s go,” I said. I began running, only to feel Charlie grab my hand.

“Charlie?” Lucas asked, as confused as I was.

“Um...girls stuff,” Charlie said quickly. Lucas nodded and ran to catch up with Hugo.

“Charlie?” I repeated.

“I have to use the bathroom!” She hissed.

“What? Now?”

“Yes now!”

“Okay okay!” I scanned the area. There were no cars coming, as far as I could see. The rest of the class had their backs turned. I scanned the glacier as Charlie held her area tightly. As if that could stop the oncoming waterfall.

“Look up there! There’s some big rocks. I’ll get Nina and we’ll cover you both sides while you-erm-relive yourself,” I said.

“Just hurry!” Charlie pleaded. I glanced up at the glacier before wading up the slippery glacier.

“Ah!” I cried as my footing slipped. I felt a warm hand grab my wrist.

“You okay?” Hugo asked, his eyes roaming my body for any injury he just prevented.

“No but-!”

“Then why are you climbing without somebody? If you wanted to climb just call me. I would’ve came,” Hugo said. He looked like a kicked puppy and I winced.

“I’m sorry Hugo but I’m in a big rush and I really need Louise and Nina!” I said. Hugo raised his eyebrow.

“Why?”

“Girls stuff.” Hugo’s eyes widened and he called Louise and Nina, who came hurrying down the glacier.

“What happened?” They asked.

“Don’t ask! Just help me get Charlie to the ledge so she can pee,” I said. They nodded.

“On it.”

We trekked up the rocky hill and finally reached the place where I had spotted earlier. We each covered one side of the rock as Charlie relived herself.

“Thanks girls,” she said once she finished. “I think I would’ve peed myself if not for Adrienne’s quick thinking,”

“I think I have to go too,” Nina said quietly.

Eventually, all us girls went and we played in the glacier for a bit longer before it was time to buy dinner and head to a hotel.

As we got into the car...

“I have to pee!” Lucas said out of the blue.

“I think I have to go too,” Hugo added sheepishly.

“Me too.” Jeremy said, reclining on the seat.

“I can try,” Antony said, shrugging. Charlie and I snickered.

“Now? Seriously guys?! Where would you go?” Mrs. Morano asked.

“There is this big rock up by the glacier. You can try there,” Nina piped up. Not even waiting for permission, the boys scrambled to climb the glacier.

“That’s a good, secret spot,” Louise huffed

“There’s only one problem,” Nina said.

“What?” I asked.

“We can see everything from the window,” Charlie drawled.

“Charlie!” I exclaimed, ducking to hide my head in Hugo’s pillow.

“Too late,” Louise sang.

Yep. Too late to save my purity.

“What are we eating for dinner Mrs. Morano?” Jeremy asked.

“How does pizza sound?” She asked.

“I’m fine with that,” Lucas said.

“I can’t believe it’s almost time to go home!” Charlie whined.

“Yeah! I loved this vacation!” Louise added.

“But we’re going to the same College,” I said.

“We are,” Charlie said, pointing to herself, Lucas, Hugo and I. “But Antony and Louise are moving to El Salvador. And Nina’s going to Spain with Jeremy.”

“Yeah, but we’ll Skype often,” Louise said.

“Or Face Time,” Antony added.

“We could meet up in Paris again,” Hugo offered. Nina wrinkled her nose.

“After all that happened? Nah. I think I’ll pass,” she said.

“That’s true. This was one of the most eventful trips ever,” Mrs. Morano said.

“Yeah. Vomiting. Getting hurt. Peeing on a glacier. We’ll have plenty of stories to tell at home,” I said.

“Don’t jinx it Adrienne. We still have one more day!” Charlie hissed. I laughed.

“Alright alright I won’t say anything,” I conceded.

“What are we doing tomorrow Mrs. M?” Jeremy asked.

“Obviously the Eiffel Tower,” She said.

“OMG! I can’t wait for that!” Louise squealed.

“Imagine how many pictures we’ll be able to take over there!” Charlie said.

“And how many weddings we’ll see!” I added.

“Or proposals. Those are my favorite!” Nina swooned.

“Or love confessions,” Lucas said.

“Will we be riding to the top?” Antony asked.

“No. But after we’ll be going to Bateaux-Mouche,” Mrs. Morano said, pulling into a small pizza place. “Lucas and Antony, can you come with me. Hugo and Jeremy, stay with the girls in the car. Unless anyone has to use the bathroom,”

“I have to go,” Nina said, climbing out of the car.

“I’ll go too,” Charlie said. I giggled, remembering her outburst at the glacier.

“Okay. We’ll stay here,” I said.

“Is it odd that nothing happened today?” Hugo asked.

“What do you mean”? Louise asked.

“Like, nobody got hurt. Nobody got burned,” Jeremy added.

“Maybe luck is on our side today,” Louise said.

“No. Remember Charlie and the rock,” I asked. Louise giggled.

“What about Charlie and a rock?” Jeremy asked.

“Nothing,” I said quickly. Hugo arched an eyebrow at us, before shrugging and turning to talk to Jeremy about some new game that came out.

“I’m so hungry!” Louise complained.

“Food’s coming Lou. Just wait a bit,” I said.

“Did you read ‘Anna and the French Kiss’ before coming here?” Louise asked.

“Yeah. I liked the way they described Anna. She wasn’t the perfect girl, yet she got a happy ending.” I said.

“You will too Adrienne. You’re Prince Charming is out there.” She glanced at Hugo, who laughed at something Jeremy said. “Or maybe next to you.”

“Maybe...” I murmured.

“Oh come on Adrienne! Nobody cuddles with ‘just a friend’. Nobody presses kisses to their foreheads or rubs them or runs hands through their hair!” Louise scolded. I rolled my eyes.

“Whatever,” I said, dropping the subject.

“Food has arrived,” Antony announced, opening the van door.

“Finally!” Louise said, practically drooling as she gobbled down her food. I rolled my eyes and slowly ate my share, dabbing my lips with a napkin a few times.

“This is good!” Jeremy moaned, biting into a hot slice.

“Yeah,” Charlie mumbled. She bit her pizza. There was a long piece of melted cheese that just wouldn’t budge from the sauce, making Charlie cross her eyes as she bit it off.

“You look so cute,” Lucas teased, kissing her forehead. For the first time in knowing her, I saw Charlie blush!

“You blushed,” I teased. Charlie glared at me.

“Shut up,” She mumbled. I laughed, finishing my slice.

“Are we ready to go? The hotel is about forty minutes from here,” Mrs. Morano said, glancing up at the darkening sky.

“Yeah,” We all said, shuffling back into our original seats. I gazed out the window as we began driving. The glaciers we were once on glittered in the setting sun.

“Beautiful isn’t it?” Hugo asked.

“Yeah. I wish I could live here,” I said, then paused. “Actually, I take it back. France is a beautiful place to visit, just not to live in.”

“Agreed,” Charlie said.

“Yeah. I love the accents and the places, but I don’t think I’d be able to live here,” Nina said.

“Me too. I just wish we saw some designer shops,” Louise sighed.

“Maybe next time Lou,” Antony said.

I looked out the window, my face feeling hot and glowing with happiness as we passed the small villages.

Next time, I’d come back. Visit this all again. And hopefully- I glanced at Hugo, who was taking pictures on his phone. Hopefully, someone will be with me.

“This is a nice hotel!” Lucas murmured. Currently, we were in a small lobby of the hotel, waiting for Mrs. Morano to get our key cards. For the first time, we were all awake!

“Same room partners?” Jeremy asked. I nodded.

“Yeah. I think it’d be easier,” I said. Nina nodded.

“Okay,” She said.

“This is like a cabin,” Hugo commented.

“That’s because it originally was one,” Mrs. Morano said, handing him and Jeremy wooden hey chains with a key dangling on it.

“That’s new,” Louise mumbled.

“Hugo, you’re room is on the second floor. Jeremy, your room is on the third floor. Mine is on the first floor if you need anything,” Mrs. Morano said. We nodded, grabbing our bags and heading off to our rooms.

“This room is so cozy!” Charlie said as we entered the room. It was very warm, I had to admit. There was a bathroom right next to the door, the same kind as yesterdays. There was a small bed, big enough for maybe three people and a lamp. Opposite that was a small bed, maybe for one person, or two if you squeezed. Behind it was a large window and empty space for the luggage’s.

“I call the big bed,” Charlie yelled, flopping on the mattress. She poked her head up.

“The beds are hard,” she said. Lucas shrugged.

“Better than the floor,” he said.

“I’ll take the small bed,” I said.

“You sure? I can take it,” Hugo offered.

“I’m sure” I said, then saw the worry in his eyes. “If I feel uncomfortable I’ll call you, okay”?

“Okay,” he said reluctantly. We all took turns in the shower, washing ourselves from the glacier ice and dirt before watching a bit of T.V.

“I’m a bit sad this vacation is almost over,” Charlie said.

“Me too,” I said.

“Well, look at this in a new light. If a vacation doesn’t end, how do we start a new one?” Hugo asked. I bit my lip.

“True,” I agreed.

“Besides, we can all come back next year. Or maybe go to Italy, like the high honors class,” Lucas said.

“All of us?” I asked.

“Well, just the four of us. Since the others will be out of state,” Hugo said.

“If we had money maybe,” Charlie said.

“Then leave it to us,” Lucas said.

“But then we’ll feel guilty,” I whined.

“Don’t be. Consider it a present,” Hugo said.

“Yeah. Besides it’s our money. Between Hugo’s acting and my jobs, we should be able to go for two week,s” Lucas said.

“In August maybe,” Charlie said.

“Yeah. August sounds good,” I said.

“My mom did say I should travel with my friends more. I think it’s just an excuse to get me out of the house,” Charlie said.

“My parents don’t care as long as I have fun,” Hugo said.

“I don’t think Adrien’ll mind. I think he had plans anyway in August,” I said.

“I’m good. I don’t live with my parents but they still try to make me travel. Make good use of my young age, they say,” Lucas said.

“Great!” I yawned. “I think it’s time to hit the sack now though.”

“Yeah. Even though the bed is hard and the blankets are heavy,” Charlie said. I got out of bed and flicked the lights off before stumbling back to my bed to try to sleep.

Key word: Try.

No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t sleep. I tossed and turned in the bed. Charlie was right, it was hard. Plus, the window was right behind me. I could hear everything! The creaks and heavy voices. My heart rate sped up at the sound of the floor creaking. I couldn’t take it anymore! I was being a chicken and I knew it, yet I just couldn’t sleep!

“Hugo!” I whispered in the dark, clutching the blankets to my chest. I felt to ashamed to wake him, yet I didn’t think i’d be able to sleep.

There was a rustle of blankets and soft footsteps. The lamplight flickered on next to me as I sat up. Hugo was crouching next to me, his hair slightly messy from tossing around in the pillow.

“What’s wrong Adrienne?” He asked. I blushed, then quickly shook my head.

“I-I’m sorry to wake you, but I don’t think I can sleep-um-with the sounds and everything. I know it’s just in my head, but...” I stopped talking, hoping he got the message. Thankfully, he smiled.

“You don’t have to be sorry Adrienne. Believe me I was also scared when I had a room like that,” He whispered. “I was right in front of the window and it scared me to death. Could you...” He looked at me, then at the bed. I blushed and quickly moved closer to the wall, letting him slide next to me. He switched the light off and wrapped his arms around me. My erratic heartbeat calmed as my body was pressed into his warm, comforting chest. Our legs were tangled with each others, but I didn’t care. He was here. I was safe from whatever was prowling around in the dark. I nuzzled myself deeper into him, as if something would come for me.

“You’re safe now Adrienne,” Hugo murmured, running his hands through my hair. “Nothing will get you. Not when I’m here,” My breathing calmed. I clutched his shirt and tried to close my eyes, sleep beginning to consume me.

“Goodnight Hugo.”

“Goodnight Adrienne.”

Hey guys! Hope you liked it! This actually happened to me, with the glacier and the hotel. I had to pee so bad so my mom and my aunt took me to the rocks, where eventually everyone went. My dad replaced Hugo in the hotel scene. Except we switched places. This story is almost over! I can’t believe it! I can’t wait to write the Eiffel Tower scene. Except I went to it on the first day. Comment if you think I should make another story with just Adrienne, Hugo, Charlie, and Lucas and about them going to Italy. I just went too everything is still fresh in my mind!

Love, Shreya
