1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christthe son of Davidthe son of Abraham.
2 Abraham begat Isaacand Isaac begat Jacoband Jacob begatJudas and his brethren
3 And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamarand Phares begatEsromand Esrom begat Aram
4 And Aram begat Aminadaband Aminadab begat NaassonandNaasson begat Salmon
5 And Salmon begat Booz of Rachaband Booz begat Obed of Ruthand Obed begat Jesse
6 And Jesse begat David the kingand David the king begatSolomon of her that had been the wife of Urias
7 And Solomon begat Roboamand Roboam begat Abiaand Abiabegat Asa
8 And Asa begat Josaphatand Josaphat begat Joramand Jorambegat Ozias
9 And Ozias begat Joathamand Joatham begat Achazand Achazbegat Ezekias
10 And Ezekias begat Manassesand Manasses begat Amonand Amonbegat Josias
11 And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethrenabout the timethey were carried away to Babylon
12 And after they were brought to BabylonJechonias begatSalathieland Salathiel begat Zorobabel
13 And Zorobabel begat Abiudand Abiud begat EliakimandEliakim begat Azor
14 And Azor begat Sadocand Sadoc begat Achimand Achim begatEliud
15 And Eliud begat Eleazarand Eleazar begat MatthanandMatthan begat Jacob
16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Maryof whom was bornJesuswho is called Christ.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteengenerationsand from David until the carrying away intoBabylon are fourteen generationsand from the carrying awayinto Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wiseWhen as hismother Mary was espoused to Josephbefore they came togethershe was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
19 Then Joseph her husbandbeing a just manand not willing tomake her a publick examplewas minded to put her awayprivily.
20 But while he thought on these thingsbeholdthe angel of theLORD appeared unto him in a dreamsayingJosephthou son ofDavidfear not to take unto thee Mary thy wifefor thatwhich is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21 And she shall bring forth a sonand thou shalt call his nameJESUSfor he shall save his people from their sins.
22 Now all this was donethat it might be fulfilled which wasspoken of the Lord by the prophetsaying
23 Beholda virgin shall be with childand shall bring forth asonand they shall call his name Emmanuelwhich beinginterpreted isGod with us.
24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of theLord had bidden himand took unto him his wife
25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn sonand he called his name JESUS.
