Acts Chapter 13

1 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certainprophets and teachersas Barnabasand Simeon that was calledNigerand Lucius of Cyreneand Manaenwhich had beenbrought up with Herod the tetrarchand Saul.

2 As they ministered to the Lordand fastedthe Holy GhostsaidSeparate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto Ihave called them.

3 And when they had fasted and prayedand laid their hands onthemthey sent them away.

4 So theybeing sent forth by the Holy Ghostdeparted untoSeleuciaand from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

5 And when they were at Salamisthey preached the word of Godin the synagogues of the Jewsand they had also John to theirminister.

6 And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphostheyfound a certain sorcerera false propheta Jewwhose namewas Barjesus

7 Which was with the deputy of the countrySergius Paulusaprudent manwho called for Barnabas and Sauland desired tohear the word of God.

8 But Elymas the sorcererfor so is his name by interpretationwithstood themseeking to turn away the deputy from thefaith.

9 Then Saul who also is called Paul filled with the HolyGhostset his eyes on him.

10 And saidO full of all subtilty and all mischiefthou childof the devilthou enemy of all righteousnesswilt thou notcease to pervert the right ways of the Lord

11 And nowbeholdthe hand of the Lord is upon theeand thoushalt be blindnot seeing the sun for a season. Andimmediately there fell on him a mist and a darknessand hewent about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

12 Then the deputywhen he saw what was donebelievedbeingastonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

13 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphosthey came toPerga in Pamphyliaand John departing from them returned toJerusalem.

14 But when they departed from Pergathey came to Antioch inPisidiaand went into the synagogue on the sabbath dayandsat down.

15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulersof the synagogue sent unto themsayingYe men and brethrenif ye have any word of exhortation for the peoplesay on.

16 Then Paul stood upand beckoning with his hand saidMen ofIsraeland ye that fear Godgive audience.

17 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathersandexalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land ofEgyptand with an high arm brought he them out of it.

18 And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners inthe wilderness.

19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land ofChanaanhe divided their land to them by lot.

20 And after that he gave unto them judges about the space offour hundred and fifty yearsuntil Samuel the prophet.

21 And afterward they desired a kingand God gave unto them Saulthe son of Cisa man of the tribe of Benjaminby the spaceof forty years.

22 And when he had removed himhe raised up unto them David tobe their kingto whom also he gave their testimonyand said I have found David the son of Jessea man after mine ownheartwhich shall fulfil all my will.

23 Of this man s seed hath God according to his promise raisedunto Israel a SaviourJesus

24 When John had first preached before his coming the baptism ofrepentance to all the people of Israel.

25 And as John fulfilled his coursehe saidWhom think ye thatI amI am not he. Butbeholdthere cometh one after mewhose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.

26 Men and brethrenchildren of the stock of Abrahamandwhosoever among you feareth Godto you is the word of thissalvation sent.

27 For they that dwell at Jerusalemand their rulersbecausethey knew him notnor yet the voices of the prophets whichare read every sabbath daythey have fulfilled them incondemning him.

28 And though they found no cause of death in himyet desiredthey Pilate that he should be slain.

29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of himtheytook him down from the treeand laid him in a sepulchre.

30 But God raised him from the dead

31 And he was seen many days of them which came up with him fromGalilee to Jerusalemwho are his witnesses unto the people.

32 And we declare unto you glad tidingshow that the promisewhich was made unto the fathers

33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their childrenin that hehath raised up Jesus againas it is also written in thesecond psalmThou art my Sonthis day have I begotten thee.

34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the deadnow nomore to return to corruptionhe said on this wiseI willgive you the sure mercies of David.

35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalmThou shalt notsuffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

36 For Davidafter he had served his own generation by the willof Godfell on sleepand was laid unto his fathersand sawcorruption

37 But hewhom God raised againsaw no corruption.

38 Be it known unto you thereforemen and brethrenthat throughthis man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins

39 And by him all that believe are justified from all thingsfrom which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

40 Beware thereforelest that come upon youwhich is spoken ofin the prophets

41 Beholdye despisersand wonderand perishfor I work awork in your daysa work which ye shall in no wise believethough a man declare it unto you.

42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagoguethe Gentilesbesought that these words might be preached to them the nextsabbath.

43 Now when the congregation was broken upmany of the Jews andreligious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabaswhospeakingto thempersuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city togetherto hear the word of God.

45 But when the Jews saw the multitudesthey were filled withenvyand spake against those things which were spoken byPaulcontradicting and blaspheming.

46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed boldand saidIt was necessarythat the word of God should first have been spoken to youbutseeing ye put it from youand judge yourselves unworthy ofeverlasting lifelowe turn to the Gentiles.

47 For so hath the Lord commanded ussayingI have set thee tobe a light of the Gentilesthat thou shouldest be forsalvation unto the ends of the earth.

48 And when the Gentiles heard thisthey were gladandglorified the word of the Lordand as many as were ordainedto eternal life believed.

49 And the word of the Lord was published throughout all theregion.

50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable womenandthe chief men of the cityand raised persecution against Pauland Barnabasand expelled them out of their coasts.

51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against themandcame unto Iconium.

52 And the disciples were filled with joyand with the HolyGhost.
