Acts Chapter 19

And it came to passthatwhile Apollos was at CorinthPaulhaving passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesusandfinding certain disciples

He said unto themHave ye received the Holy Ghost since yebelievedAnd they said unto himWe have not so much as heardwhether there be any Holy Ghost.

And he said unto themUnto what then were ye baptizedAndthey saidUnto John s baptism.

Then said PaulJohn verily baptized with the baptism ofrepentancesaying unto the peoplethat they should believeon him which should come after himthat ison Christ Jesus.

When they heard thisthey were baptized in the name of theLord Jesus.

And when Paul had laid his hands upon themthe Holy Ghostcame on themand they spake with tonguesand prophesied.

And all the men were about twelve.

And he went into the synagogueand spake boldly for the spaceof three monthsdisputing and persuading the thingsconcerning the kingdom of God.

But when divers were hardenedand believed notbut spakeevil of that way before the multitudehe departed from them and separated the disciplesdisputing daily in the school ofone Tyrannus.

And this continued by the space of two yearsso that all theywhich dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord JesusbothJews and Greeks.

And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul

So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefsor apronsand the diseases departed from themand the evilspirits went out of them.

Then certain of the vagabond Jewsexorciststook upon themto call over them which had evil spirits the name of the LORDJesussayingWe adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

And there were seven sons of one Scevaa Jewand chief ofthe priestswhich did so.

And the evil spirit answered and saidJesus I knowand PaulI knowbut who are ye

And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on themandovercame themand prevailed against themso that they fledout of that house naked and wounded.

And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling atEphesusand fear fell on them alland the name of the LordJesus was magnified.

And many that believed cameand confessedand shewed theirdeeds.

Many of them also which used curious arts brought their bookstogetherand burned them before all menand they counted theprice of themand found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

After these things were endedPaul purposed in the spirit when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaiato go toJerusalemsayingAfter I have been thereI must also seeRome.

So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered untohimTimotheus and Erastusbut he himself stayed in Asia fora season.

And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.

For a certain man named Demetriusa silversmithwhich madesilver shrines for Dianabrought no small gain unto thecraftsmen

Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation and saidSirsye know that by this craft we have our wealth.

Moreover ye see and hearthat not alone at Ephesusbutalmost throughout all Asiathis Paul hath persuaded andturned away much peoplesaying that they be no godswhichare made with hands

So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set atnoughtbut also that the temple of the great goddess Dianashould be despisedand her magnificence should be destroyedwhom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

And when they heard these sayingsthey were full of wrath and cried outsayingGreat is Diana of the Ephesians.

And the whole city was filled with confusionand havingcaught Gaius and Aristarchusmen of MacedoniaPaul scompanions in travelthey rushed with one accord into thetheatre.

And when Paul would have entered in unto the peoplethedisciples suffered him not.

And certain of the chief of Asiawhich were his friendssentunto himdesiring him that he would not adventure himselfinto the theatre.

Some therefore cried one thingand some anotherfor theassembly was confusedand the more part knew not whereforethey were come together.

And they drew Alexander out of the multitudethe Jews puttinghim forward. And Alexander beckoned with the handand wouldhave made his defence unto the people.

But when they knew that he was a Jewall with one voice aboutthe space of two hours cried outGreat is Diana of theEphesians.

And when the townclerk had appeased the peoplehe saidYemen of Ephesuswhat man is there that knoweth not how thatthe city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddessDianaand of the image which fell down from Jupiter

Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken againstyeought to be quietand to do nothing rashly.

For ye have brought hither these menwhich are neitherrobbers of churchesnor yet blasphemers of your goddess.

Wherefore if Demetriusand the craftsmen which are with him have a matter against any manthe law is openand there aredeputieslet them implead one another.

But if ye enquire any thing concerning other mattersit shallbe determined in a lawful assembly.

For we are in danger to be called in question for this day suproarthere being no cause whereby we may give an account ofthis concourse.

And when he had thus spokenhe dismissed the assembly.
