Romans Chapter 9

I say the truth in ChristI lie notmy conscience alsobearing me witness in the Holy Ghost

That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.

For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for mybrethrenmy kinsmen according to the flesh

Who are Israelitesto whom pertaineth the adoptionand thegloryand the covenantsand the giving of the lawand theservice of Godand the promises

Whose are the fathersand of whom as concerning the fleshChrist camewho is over allGod blessed for ever. Amen.

Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For theyare not all Israelwhich are of Israel

Neitherbecause they are the seed of Abrahamare they allchildrenbutIn Isaac shall thy seed be called.

That isThey which are the children of the fleshthese arenot the children of Godbut the children of the promise arecounted for the seed.

For this is the word of promiseAt this time will I comeandSarah shall have a son.

And not only thisbut when Rebecca also had conceived by oneeven by our father Isaac

For the children being not yet bornneither having done anygood or evilthat the purpose of God according to electionmight standnot of worksbut of him that calleth

It was said unto herThe elder shall serve the younger.

As it is writtenJacob have I lovedbut Esau have I hated.

What shall we say thenIs there unrighteousness with GodGodforbid.

For he saith to MosesI will have mercy on whom I will havemercyand I will have compassion on whom I will havecompassion.

So then it is not of him that willethnor of him thatrunnethbut of God that sheweth mercy.

For the scripture saith unto PharaohEven for this samepurpose have I raised thee upthat I might shew my power intheeand that my name might be declared throughout all theearth.

Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercyand whomhe will he hardeneth.

Thou wilt say then unto meWhy doth he yet find faultForwho hath resisted his will

Nay butO manwho art thou that repliest against GodShallthe thing formed say to him that formed itWhy hast thou mademe thus

Hath not the potter power over the clayof the same lump tomake one vessel unto honourand another unto dishonour

What if Godwilling to shew his wrathand to make his powerknownendured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrathfitted to destruction

And that he might make known the riches of his glory on thevessels of mercywhich he had afore prepared unto glory

Even uswhom he hath callednot of the Jews onlybut alsoof the Gentiles

As he saith also in OseeI will call them my peoplewhichwere not my peopleand her belovedwhich was not beloved.

And it shall come to passthat in the place where it was saidunto themYe are not my peoplethere shall they be calledthe children of the living God.

Esaias also crieth concerning IsraelThough the number of thechildren of Israel be as the sand of the seaa remnant shallbe saved

For he will finish the workand cut it short inrighteousnessbecause a short work will the Lord make uponthe earth.

And as Esaias said beforeExcept the Lord of Sabaoth had leftus a seedwe had been as Sodomaand been made like untoGomorrha.

What shall we say thenThat the Gentileswhich followed notafter righteousnesshave attained to righteousnesseven therighteousness which is of faith.

But Israelwhich followed after the law of righteousnesshath not attained to the law of righteousness.

WhereforeBecause they sought it not by faithbut as it wereby the works of the law. For they stumbled at thatstumblingstone

As it is writtenBeholdI lay in Sion a stumblingstone androck of offenceand whosoever believeth on him shall not beashamed.
