Matthew Chapter 13
The same day went Jesus out of the houseand sat by the seaside.
And great multitudes were gathered together unto himso thathe went into a shipand satand the whole multitude stood onthe shore.
And he spake many things unto them in parablessayingBeholda sower went forth to sow
And when he sowedsome seeds fell by the way sideand thefowls came and devoured them up
Some fell upon stony placeswhere they had not much earthand forthwith they sprung upbecause they had no deepness ofearth
And when the sun was upthey were scorchedand because theyhad no rootthey withered away.
And some fell among thornsand the thorns sprung upandchoked them
But other fell into good groundand brought forth fruitsomean hundredfoldsome sixtyfoldsome thirtyfold.
Who hath ears to hearlet him hear.
And the disciples cameand said unto himWhy speakest thouunto them in parables
He answered and said unto themBecause it is given unto youto know the mysteries of the kingdom of heavenbut to them itis not given.
For whosoever hathto him shall be givenand he shall havemore abundancebut whosoever hath notfrom him shall betaken away even that he hath.
Therefore speak I to them in parablesbecause they seeing seenotand hearing they hear notneither do they understand.
And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaiaswhich saith By hearing ye shall hearand shall not understandand seeingye shall seeand shall not perceive
For this people s heart is waxed grossand their ears aredull of hearingand their eyes they have closedlest at anytime they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and should understand with their heartand should beconvertedand I should heal them.
But blessed are your eyesfor they seeand your earsforthey hear.
For verily I say unto youThat many prophets and righteousmen have desired to see those things which ye seeand havenot seen themand to hear those things which ye hearandhave not heard them.
Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.
When any one heareth the word of the kingdomandunderstandeth it notthen cometh the wicked oneand catchethaway that which was sown in his heart. This is he whichreceived seed by the way side.
But he that received the seed into stony placesthe same ishe that heareth the wordand anon with joy receiveth it
Yet hath he not root in himselfbut dureth for a whileforwhen tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the wordby and by he is offended.
He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareththe wordand the care of this worldand the deceitfulness ofricheschoke the wordand he becometh unfruitful.
But he that received seed into the good ground is he thatheareth the wordand understandeth itwhich also bearethfruitand bringeth forthsome an hundredfoldsome sixty some thirty.
Another parable put he forth unto themsayingThe kingdom ofheaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in hisfield
But while men slepthis enemy came and sowed tares among thewheatand went his way.
But when the blade was sprung upand brought forth fruitthen appeared the tares also.
So the servants of the householder came and said unto him Sirdidst not thou sow good seed in thy fieldfrom whencethen hath it tares
He said unto themAn enemy hath done this. The servants saidunto himWilt thou then that we go and gather them up
But he saidNaylest while ye gather up the taresye rootup also the wheat with them.
Let both grow together until the harvestand in the time ofharvest I will say to the reapersGather ye together firstthe taresand bind them in bundles to burn thembut gatherthe wheat into my barn.
Another parable put he forth unto themsayingThe kingdom ofheaven is like to a grain of mustard seedwhich a man tookand sowed in his field
Which indeed is the least of all seedsbut when it is grownit is the greatest among herbsand becometh a treeso thatthe birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.
Another parable spake he unto themThe kingdom of heaven islike unto leavenwhich a woman tookand hid in threemeasures of mealtill the whole was leavened.
All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables and without a parable spake he not unto them
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophetsayingI will open my mouth in parablesI will utter thingswhich have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
Then Jesus sent the multitude awayand went into the houseand his disciples came unto himsayingDeclare unto us theparable of the tares of the field.
He answered and said unto themHe that soweth the good seedis the Son of man
The field is the worldthe good seed are the children of thekingdombut the tares are the children of the wicked one
The enemy that sowed them is the devilthe harvest is the endof the worldand the reapers are the angels.
As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the firesoshall it be in the end of this world.
The Son of man shall send forth his angelsand they shallgather out of his kingdom all things that offendand themwhich do iniquity
And shall cast them into a furnace of firethere shall bewailing and gnashing of teeth.
Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdomof their Father. Who hath ears to hearlet him hear.
Againthe kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in afieldthe which when a man hath foundhe hidethand for joythereof goeth and selleth all that he hathand buyeth thatfield.
Againthe kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant manseeking goodly pearls
Whowhen he had found one pearl of great pricewent and soldall that he hadand bought it.
Againthe kingdom of heaven is like unto a netthat was castinto the seaand gathered of every kind
Whichwhen it was fullthey drew to shoreand sat downandgathered the good into vesselsbut cast the bad away.
So shall it be at the end of the worldthe angels shall comeforthand sever the wicked from among the just
And shall cast them into the furnace of firethere shall bewailing and gnashing of teeth.
Jesus saith unto themHave ye understood all these thingsThey say unto himYeaLord.
Then said he unto themTherefore every scribe which isinstructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man thatis an householderwhich bringeth forth out of his treasurethings new and old.
And it came to passthat when Jesus had finished theseparableshe departed thence.
And when he was come into his own countryhe taught them intheir synagogueinsomuch that they were astonishedand saidWhence hath this man this wisdomand these mighty works
Is not this the carpenter s sonis not his mother calledMaryand his brethrenJamesand Josesand SimonandJudas
And his sistersare they not all with usWhence then haththis man all these things
And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto themAprophet is not without honoursave in his own countryand inhis own house.
And he did not many mighty works there because of theirunbelief.
