Matthew Chapter 14

1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus

2 And said unto his servantsThis is John the Baptisthe isrisen from the deadand therefore mighty works do shew forththemselves in him.

3 For Herod had laid hold on Johnand bound himand put him inprison for Herodiassakehis brother Philip s wife.

4 For John said unto himIt is not lawful for thee to have her.

5 And when he would have put him to deathhe feared themultitudebecause they counted him as a prophet.

6 But when Herod s birthday was keptthe daughter of Herodiasdanced before themand pleased Herod.

7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever shewould ask.

8 And shebeing before instructed of her mothersaidGive mehere John Baptist s head in a charger.

9 And the king was sorrynevertheless for the oath s sakeandthem which sat with him at meathe commanded it to be givenher.

10 And he sentand beheaded John in the prison.

11 And his head was brought in a chargerand given to thedamseland she brought it to her mother.

12 And his disciples cameand took up the bodyand buried itand went and told Jesus.

13 When Jesus heard of ithe departed thence by ship into adesert place apartand when the people had heard thereof they followed him on foot out of the cities.

14 And Jesus went forthand saw a great multitudeand was movedwith compassion toward themand he healed their sick.

15 And when it was eveninghis disciples came to himsaying This is a desert placeand the time is now pastsend themultitude awaythat they may go into the villagesand buythemselves victuals.

16 But Jesus said unto themThey need not departgive ye themto eat.

17 And they say unto himWe have here but five loavesand twofishes.

18 He saidBring them hither to me.

19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grassandtook the five loavesand the two fishesand looking up toheavenhe blessedand brakeand gave the loaves to hisdisciplesand the disciples to the multitude.

20 And they did all eatand were filledand they took up of thefragments that remained twelve baskets full.

21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand menbesidewomen and children.

22 And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into ashipand to go before him unto the other sidewhile he sentthe multitudes away.

23 And when he had sent the multitudes awayhe went up into amountain apart to prayand when the evening was comehe wasthere alone.

24 But the ship was now in the midst of the seatossed withwavesfor the wind was contrary.

25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto themwalking on the sea.

26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the seathey weretroubledsayingIt is a spiritand they cried out for fear.

27 But straightway Jesus spake unto themsayingBe of goodcheerit is Ibe not afraid.

28 And Peter answered him and saidLordif it be thoubid mecome unto thee on the water.

29 And he saidCome. And when Peter was come down out of theshiphe walked on the waterto go to Jesus.

30 But when he saw the wind boisteroushe was afraidandbeginning to sinkhe criedsayingLordsave me.

31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his handand caughthimand said unto himO thou of little faithwhereforedidst thou doubt

32 And when they were come into the shipthe wind ceased.

33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped himsayingOf a truth thou art the Son of God.

34 And when they were gone overthey came into the land ofGennesaret.

35 And when the men of that place had knowledge of himthey sentout into all that country round aboutand brought unto himall that were diseased

36 And besought him that they might only touch the hem of hisgarmentand as many as touched were made perfectly whole.
