Corinthians Chapter 9
Am I not an apostleam I not freehave I not seen JesusChrist our Lordare not ye my work in the Lord
If I be not an apostle unto othersyet doubtless I am to youfor the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.
Mine answer to them that do examine me is this
Have we not power to eat and to drink
Have we not power to lead about a sistera wifeas well asother apostlesand as the brethren of the Lordand Cephas
Or I only and Barnabashave not we power to forbear working
Who goeth a warfare any time at his own chargeswho plantetha vineyardand eateth not of the fruit thereofor whofeedeth a flockand eateth not of the milk of the flock
Say I these things as a manor saith not the law the samealso
For it is written in the law of MosesThou shalt not muzzlethe mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God takecare for oxen
Or saith he it altogether for our sakesFor our sakesnodoubtthis is writtenthat he that ploweth should plow inhopeand that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker ofhis hope.
If we have sown unto you spiritual thingsis it a great thingif we shall reap your carnal things
If others be partakers of this power over youare not weratherNevertheless we have not used this powerbut sufferall thingslest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things liveof the things of the templeand they which wait at the altarare partakers with the altar
Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach thegospel should live of the gospel.
But I have used none of these thingsneither have I writtenthese thingsthat it should be so done unto mefor it werebetter for me to diethan that any man should make myglorying void.
For though I preach the gospelI have nothing to glory offor necessity is laid upon meyeawoe is unto meif Ipreach not the gospel
For if I do this thing willinglyI have a rewardbut ifagainst my willa dispensation of the gospel is committedunto me.
What is my reward thenVerily thatwhen I preach the gospelI may make the gospel of Christ without chargethat I abusenot my power in the gospel.
For though I be free from all menyet have I made myselfservant unto allthat I might gain the more.
And unto the Jews I became as a Jewthat I might gain theJewsto them that are under the lawas under the lawthat Imight gain them that are under the law
To them that are without lawas without law being notwithout law to Godbut under the law to Christ that I mightgain them that are without law.
To the weak became I as weakthat I might gain the weakI ammade all things to all menthat I might by all means savesome.
And this I do for the gospel s sakethat I might be partakerthereof with you.
Know ye not that they which run in a race run allbut onereceiveth the prizeSo runthat ye may obtain.
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate inall things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crownbutwe an incorruptible.
I therefore so runnot as uncertainlyso fight Inot as onethat beateth the air
But I keep under my bodyand bring it into subjectionlestthat by any meanswhen I have preached to othersI myselfshould be a castaway.
