Matthew Chapter 17

1 And after six days Jesus taketh PeterJamesand John hisbrotherand bringeth them up into an high mountain apart

2 And was transfigured before themand his face did shine asthe sunand his raiment was white as the light.

3 Andbeholdthere appeared unto them Moses and Elias talkingwith him.

4 Then answered Peterand said unto JesusLordit is good forus to be hereif thou wiltlet us make here threetabernaclesone for theeand one for Mosesand one forElias.

5 While he yet spakebeholda bright cloud overshadowed them and behold a voice out of the cloudwhich saidThis is mybeloved Sonin whom I am well pleasedhear ye him.

6 And when the disciples heard itthey fell on their faceandwere sore afraid.

7 And Jesus came and touched themand saidAriseand be notafraid.

8 And when they had lifted up their eyesthey saw no mansaveJesus only.

9 And as they came down from the mountainJesus charged them sayingTell the vision to no manuntil the Son of man berisen again from the dead.

10 And his disciples asked himsayingWhy then say the scribesthat Elias must first come

11 And Jesus answered and said unto themElias truly shall firstcomeand restore all things.

12 But I say unto youThat Elias is come alreadyand they knewhim notbut have done unto him whatsoever they listed.Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.

13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of Johnthe Baptist.

14 And when they were come to the multitudethere came to him acertain mankneeling down to himand saying

15 Lordhave mercy on my sonfor he is lunatickand sorevexedfor ofttimes he falleth into the fireand oft into thewater.

16 And I brought him to thy disciplesand they could not curehim.

17 Then Jesus answered and saidO faithless and perversegenerationhow long shall I be with youhow long shall Isuffer youbring him hither to me.

18 And Jesus rebuked the deviland he departed out of himandthe child was cured from that very hour.

19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apartand saidWhy couldnot we cast him out

20 And Jesus said unto themBecause of your unbelieffor verilyI say unto youIf ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed ye shall say unto this mountainRemove hence to yonder place and it shall removeand nothing shall be impossible unto you.

21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

22 And while they abode in GalileeJesus said unto themThe Sonof man shall be betrayed into the hands of men

23 And they shall kill himand the third day he shall be raisedagain. And they were exceeding sorry.

24 And when they were come to Capernaumthey that receivedtribute money came to Peterand saidDoth not your masterpay tribute

25 He saithYes. And when he was come into the houseJesusprevented himsayingWhat thinkest thouSimonof whom dothe kings of the earth take custom or tributeof their ownchildrenor of strangers

26 Peter saith unto himOf strangers. Jesus saith unto himThenare the children free.

27 Notwithstandinglest we should offend themgo thou to theseaand cast an hookand take up the fish that first comethupand when thou hast opened his mouththou shalt find apiece of moneythat takeand give unto them for me and thee.
