Titus Chapter 1
1 Paula servant of Godand an apostle of Jesus Christ according to the faith of God s electand the acknowledgingof the truth which is after godliness
2 In hope of eternal lifewhich Godthat cannot liepromisedbefore the world began
3 But hath in due times manifested his word through preachingwhich is committed unto me according to the commandment of Godour Saviour
4 To Titusmine own son after the common faithGracemercyand peacefrom God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ ourSaviour.
5 For this cause left I thee in Cretethat thou shouldest setin order the things that are wantingand ordain elders inevery cityas I had appointed thee
6 If any be blamelessthe husband of one wifehaving faithfulchildren not accused of riot or unruly.
7 For a bishop must be blamelessas the steward of Godnotselfwillednot soon angrynot given to wineno strikernotgiven to filthy lucre
8 But a lover of hospitalitya lover of good mensoberjust holytemperate
9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taughtthat hemay be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convincethe gainsayers.
10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceiversspecially they of the circumcision
11 Whose mouths must be stoppedwho subvert whole housesteaching things which they ought notfor filthy lucre s sake.
12 One of themselveseven a prophet of their ownsaidTheCretians are alway liarsevil beastsslow bellies.
13 This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharplythat theymay be sound in the faith
14 Not giving heed to Jewish fablesand commandments of menthat turn from the truth.
15 Unto the pure all things are purebut unto them that aredefiled and unbelieving is nothing purebut even their mindand conscience is defiled.
16 They profess that they know Godbut in works they deny himbeing abominableand disobedientand unto every good workreprobate.
