Hebrews Chapter 9
Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divineserviceand a worldly sanctuary.
For there was a tabernacle madethe firstwherein was thecandlestickand the tableand the shewbreadwhich is calledthe sanctuary.
And after the second veilthe tabernacle which is called theHoliest of all
Which had the golden censerand the ark of the covenantoverlaid round about with goldwherein was the golden potthat had mannaand Aaron s rod that buddedand the tables ofthe covenant
And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseatofwhich we cannot now speak particularly.
Now when these things were thus ordainedthe priests wentalways into the first tabernacleaccomplishing the service ofGod.
But into the second went the high priest alone once everyyearnot without bloodwhich he offered for himselfand forthe errors of the people
The Holy Ghost this signifyingthat the way into the holiestof all was not yet made manifestwhile as the firsttabernacle was yet standing
Which was a figure for the time then presentin which wereoffered both gifts and sacrificesthat could not make himthat did the service perfectas pertaining to the conscience
Which stood only in meats and drinksand divers washingsandcarnal ordinancesimposed on them until the time ofreformation.
But Christ being come an high priest of good things to comeby a greater and more perfect tabernaclenot made with handsthat is to saynot of this building
Neither by the blood of goats and calvesbut by his own bloodhe entered in once into the holy placehaving obtainedeternal redemption for us.
For if the blood of bulls and of goatsand the ashes of anheifer sprinkling the uncleansanctifieth to the purifying ofthe flesh
How much more shall the blood of Christwho through theeternal Spirit offered himself without spot to Godpurge yourconscience from dead works to serve the living God
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament that by means of deathfor the redemption of thetransgressions that were under the first testamentthey whichare called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
For where a testament isthere must also of necessity be thedeath of the testator.
For a testament is of force after men are deadotherwise itis of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated withoutblood.
For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the peopleaccording to the lawhe took the blood of calves and ofgoatswith waterand scarlet wooland hyssopand sprinkledboth the bookand all the people
SayingThis is the blood of the testament which God hathenjoined unto you.
Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacleand allthe vessels of the ministry.
And almost all things are by the law purged with bloodandwithout shedding of blood is no remission.
It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in theheavens should be purified with thesebut the heavenly thingsthemselves with better sacrifices than these.
For Christ is not entered into the holy places made withhandswhich are the figures of the truebut into heavenitselfnow to appear in the presence of God for us
Nor yet that he should offer himself oftenas the high priestentereth into the holy place every year with blood of others
For then must he often have suffered since the foundation ofthe worldbut now once in the end of the world hath heappeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
And as it is appointed unto men once to diebut after thisthe judgment
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of manyand untothem that look for him shall he appear the second time withoutsin unto salvation.
