James Chapter 2

My brethrenhave not the faith of our Lord Jesus ChristtheLord of glorywith respect of persons.

For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ringin goodly appareland there come in also a poor man in vileraiment

And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothingandsay unto himSit thou here in a good placeand say to thepoorStand thou thereor sit here under my footstool

Are ye not then partial in yourselvesand are become judgesof evil thoughts

Hearkenmy beloved brethrenHath not God chosen the poor ofthis world rich in faithand heirs of the kingdom which hehath promised to them that love him

But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress youand draw you before the judgment seats

Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye arecalled

If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scriptureThoushalt love thy neighbour as thyselfye do well

But if ye have respect to personsye commit sinand areconvinced of the law as transgressors.

For whosoever shall keep the whole lawand yet offend in onepointhe is guilty of all.

For he that saidDo not commit adulterysaid alsoDo notkill. Now if thou commit no adulteryyet if thou killthouart become a transgressor of the law.

So speak yeand so doas they that shall be judged by thelaw of liberty.

For he shall have judgment without mercythat hath shewed nomercyand mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

What doth it profitmy brethrenthough a man say he hathfaithand have not workscan faith save him

If a brother or sister be nakedand destitute of daily food

And one of you say unto themDepart in peacebe ye warmedand fillednotwithstanding ye give them not those thingswhich are needful to the bodywhat doth it profit

Even so faithif it hath not worksis deadbeing alone.

Yeaa man may sayThou hast faithand I have worksshew methy faith without thy worksand I will shew thee my faith bymy works.

Thou believest that there is one Godthou doest wellthedevils also believeand tremble.

But wilt thou knowO vain manthat faith without works isdead

Was not Abraham our father justified by workswhen he hadoffered Isaac his son upon the altar

Seest thou how faith wrought with his worksand by works wasfaith made perfect

And the scripture was fulfilled which saithAbraham believedGodand it was imputed unto him for righteousnessand he wascalled the Friend of God.

Ye see then how that by works a man is justifiedand not byfaith only.

Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works when she had received the messengersand had sent them outanother way

For as the body without the spirit is deadso faith withoutworks is dead also.
