Mark Chapter 1

1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christthe Son of God

2 As it is written in the prophetsBeholdI send my messengerbefore thy facewhich shall prepare thy way before thee.

3 The voice of one crying in the wildernessPrepare ye the wayof the Lordmake his paths straight.

4 John did baptize in the wildernessand preach the baptism ofrepentance for the remission of sins.

5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaeaand theyof Jerusalemand were all baptized of him in the river ofJordanconfessing their sins.

6 And John was clothed with camel s hairand with a girdle of askin about his loinsand he did eat locusts and wild honey

7 And preachedsayingThere cometh one mightier than I aftermethe latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop downand unloose.

8 I indeed have baptized you with waterbut he shall baptizeyou with the Holy Ghost.

9 And it came to pass in those daysthat Jesus came fromNazareth of Galileeand was baptized of John in Jordan.

10 And straightway coming up out of the waterhe saw the heavensopenedand the Spirit like a dove descending upon him

11 And there came a voice from heavensayingThou art mybeloved Sonin whom I am well pleased.

12 And immediately the spirit driveth him into the wilderness.

13 And he was there in the wilderness forty daystempted ofSatanand was with the wild beastsand the angels ministeredunto him.

14 Now after that John was put in prisonJesus came intoGalileepreaching the gospel of the kingdom of God

15 And sayingThe time is fulfilledand the kingdom of God isat handrepent yeand believe the gospel.

16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galileehe saw Simon andAndrew his brother casting a net into the seafor they werefishers.

17 And Jesus said unto themCome ye after meand I will makeyou to become fishers of men.

18 And straightway they forsook their netsand followed him.

19 And when he had gone a little farther thencehe saw James theson of Zebedeeand John his brotherwho also were in theship mending their nets.

20 And straightway he called themand they left their fatherZebedee in the ship with the hired servantsand went afterhim.

21 And they went into Capernaumand straightway on the sabbathday he entered into the synagogueand taught.

22 And they were astonished at his doctrinefor he taught themas one that had authorityand not as the scribes.

23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spiritand he cried out

24 SayingLet us alonewhat have we to do with theethou Jesusof Nazarethart thou come to destroy usI know thee who thouartthe Holy One of God.

25 And Jesus rebuked himsayingHold thy peaceand come out ofhim.

26 And when the unclean spirit had torn himand cried with aloud voicehe came out of him.

27 And they were all amazedinsomuch that they questioned amongthemselvessayingWhat thing is thiswhat new doctrine isthisfor with authority commandeth he even the uncleanspiritsand they do obey him.

28 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all theregion round about Galilee.

29 And forthwithwhen they were come out of the synagoguetheyentered into the house of Simon and Andrewwith James andJohn.

30 But Simon s wife s mother lay sick of a feverand anon theytell him of her.

31 And he came and took her by the handand lifted her upandimmediately the fever left herand she ministered unto them.

32 And at evenwhen the sun did setthey brought unto him allthat were diseasedand them that were possessed with devils.

33 And all the city was gathered together at the door.

34 And he healed many that were sick of divers diseasesand castout many devilsand suffered not the devils to speakbecausethey knew him.

35 And in the morningrising up a great while before dayhewent outand departed into a solitary placeand thereprayed.

36 And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.

37 And when they had found himthey said unto himAll men seekfor thee.

38 And he said unto themLet us go into the next townsthat Imay preach there alsofor therefore came I forth.

39 And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galileeand cast out devils.

40 And there came a leper to himbeseeching himand kneelingdown to himand saying unto himIf thou wiltthou canstmake me clean.

41 And Jesusmoved with compassionput forth his handandtouched himand saith unto himI willbe thou clean.

42 And as soon as he had spokenimmediately the leprosy departedfrom himand he was cleansed.

43 And he straitly charged himand forthwith sent him away

44 And saith unto himSee thou say nothing to any manbut gothy wayshew thyself to the priestand offer for thycleansing those things which Moses commandedfor a testimonyunto them.

45 But he went outand began to publish it muchand to blazeabroad the matterinsomuch that Jesus could no more openlyenter into the citybut was without in desert placesandthey came to him from every quarter.
