Mark Chapter 4

1 And he began again to teach by the sea sideand there wasgathered unto him a great multitudeso that he entered into ashipand sat in the seaand the whole multitude was by thesea on the land.

2 And he taught them many things by parablesand said unto themin his doctrine

3 HearkenBeholdthere went out a sower to sow

4 And it came to passas he sowedsome fell by the way side and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

5 And some fell on stony groundwhere it had not much earth and immediately it sprang upbecause it had no depth ofearth

6 But when the sun was upit was scorchedand because it hadno rootit withered away.

7 And some fell among thornsand the thorns grew upand chokeditand it yielded no fruit.

8 And other fell on good groundand did yield fruit that sprangup and increasedand brought forthsome thirtyand somesixtyand some an hundred.

9 And he said unto themHe that hath ears to hearlet himhear.

10 And when he was alonethey that were about him with thetwelve asked of him the parable.

11 And he said unto themUnto you it is given to know themystery of the kingdom of Godbut unto them that are withoutall these things are done in parables

12 That seeing they may seeand not perceiveand hearing theymay hearand not understandlest at any time they should beconvertedand their sins should be forgiven them.

13 And he said unto themKnow ye not this parableand how thenwill ye know all parables

14 The sower soweth the word.

15 And these are they by the way sidewhere the word is sownbut when they have heardSatan cometh immediatelyand takethaway the word that was sown in their hearts.

16 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony groundwhowhen they have heard the wordimmediately receive itwith gladness

17 And have no root in themselvesand so endure but for a timeafterwardwhen affliction or persecution ariseth for theword s sakeimmediately they are offended.

18 And these are they which are sown among thornssuch as hearthe word

19 And the cares of this worldand the deceitfulness of richesand the lusts of other things entering inchoke the wordandit becometh unfruitful.

20 And these are they which are sown on good groundsuch as hearthe wordand receive itand bring forth fruitsomethirtyfoldsome sixtyand some an hundred.

21 And he said unto themIs a candle brought to be put under abushelor under a bedand not to be set on a candlestick

22 For there is nothing hidwhich shall not be manifested neither was any thing kept secretbut that it should comeabroad.

23 If any man have ears to hearlet him hear.

24 And he said unto themTake heed what ye hearwith whatmeasure ye meteit shall be measured to youand unto youthat hear shall more be given.

25 For he that hathto him shall be givenand he that hath notfrom him shall be taken even that which he hath.

26 And he saidSo is the kingdom of Godas if a man should castseed into the ground

27 And should sleepand rise night and dayand the seed shouldspring and grow uphe knoweth not how.

28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herselffirst thebladethen the earafter that the full corn in the ear.

29 But when the fruit is brought forthimmediately he putteth inthe sicklebecause the harvest is come.

30 And he saidWhereunto shall we liken the kingdom of Godorwith what comparison shall we compare it

31 It is like a grain of mustard seedwhichwhen it is sown inthe earthis less than all the seeds that be in the earth

32 But when it is sownit groweth upand becometh greater thanall herbsand shooteth out great branchesso that the fowlsof the air may lodge under the shadow of it.

33 And with many such parables spake he the word unto themasthey were able to hear it.

34 But without a parable spake he not unto themand when theywere alonehe expounded all things to his disciples.

35 And the same daywhen the even was comehe saith unto themLet us pass over unto the other side.

36 And when they had sent away the multitudethey took him evenas he was in the ship. And there were also with him otherlittle ships.

37 And there arose a great storm of windand the waves beat intothe shipso that it was now full.

38 And he was in the hinder part of the shipasleep on a pillowand they awake himand say unto himMastercarest thou notthat we perish

39 And he aroseand rebuked the windand said unto the seaPeacebe still. And the wind ceasedand there was a greatcalm.

40 And he said unto themWhy are ye so fearfulhow is it thatye have no faith

41 And they feared exceedinglyand said one to anotherWhatmanner of man is thisthat even the wind and the sea obeyhim
