Matthew Chapter 4

1 Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to betempted of the devil.

2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nightshe wasafterward an hungred.

3 And when the tempter came to himhe saidIf thou be the Sonof Godcommand that these stones be made bread.

4 But he answered and saidIt is writtenMan shall not live bybread alonebut by every word that proceedeth out of themouth of God.

5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy cityand settethhim on a pinnacle of the temple

6 And saith unto himIf thou be the Son of Godcast thyselfdownfor it is writtenHe shall give his angels chargeconcerning theeand in their hands they shall bear thee up lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto himIt is written againThou shalt not temptthe Lord thy God.

8 Againthe devil taketh him up into an exceeding highmountainand sheweth him all the kingdoms of the worldandthe glory of them

9 And saith unto himAll these things will I give theeif thouwilt fall down and worship me.

10 Then saith Jesus unto himGet thee henceSatanfor it iswrittenThou shalt worship the Lord thy Godand him onlyshalt thou serve.

11 Then the devil leaveth himandbeholdangels came andministered unto him.

12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prisonhedeparted into Galilee

13 And leaving Nazarethhe came and dwelt in Capernaumwhich isupon the sea coastin the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim

14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias theprophetsaying

15 The land of Zabulonand the land of Nephthalimby the way ofthe seabeyond JordanGalilee of the Gentiles

16 The people which sat in darkness saw great lightand to themwhich sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprungup.

17 From that time Jesus began to preachand to sayRepentforthe kingdom of heaven is at hand.

18 And Jesuswalking by the sea of Galileesaw two brethren Simon called Peterand Andrew his brothercasting a net intothe seafor they were fishers.

19 And he saith unto themFollow meand I will make you fishersof men.

20 And they straightway left their netsand followed him.

21 And going on from thencehe saw other two brethrenJames theson of Zebedeeand John his brotherin a ship with Zebedeetheir fathermending their netsand he called them.

22 And they immediately left the ship and their fatherandfollowed him.

23 And Jesus went about all Galileeteaching in theirsynagoguesand preaching the gospel of the kingdomandhealing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease amongthe people.

24 And his fame went throughout all Syriaand they brought untohim all sick people that were taken with divers diseases andtormentsand those which were possessed with devilsandthose which were lunatickand those that had the palsyandhe healed them.

25 And there followed him great multitudes of people fromGalileeand from Decapolisand from Jerusalemand fromJudaeaand from beyond Jordan.
