It seemed good to me alsohaving had perfect understanding ofall things from the very firstto write unto thee in order most excellent Theophilus

That thou mightest know the certainty of those thingswhereinthou hast been instructed.

THERE was in the days of Herodthe king of Judaeaa certainpriest named Zachariasof the course of Abiaand his wifewas of the daughters of Aaronand her name was Elisabeth.

And they were both righteous before Godwalking in all thecommandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

And they had no childbecause that Elisabeth was barrenandthey both were now well stricken in years.

And it came to passthat while he executed the priest soffice before God in the order of his course

According to the custom of the priest s officehis lot was toburn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.

And the whole multitude of the people were praying without atthe time of incense.

And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing onthe right side of the altar of incense.

And when Zacharias saw himhe was troubledand fear fellupon him.

But the angel said unto himFear notZachariasfor thyprayer is heardand thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son and thou shalt call his name John.

And it came to passthatas soon as the days of hisministration were accomplishedhe departed to his own house.

And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceivedand hidherself five monthssaying
