Luke Chapter 4

1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordanand was led by the Spirit into the wilderness

2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days hedid eat nothingand when they were endedhe afterwardhungered.

3 And the devil said unto himIf thou be the Son of Godcommand this stone that it be made bread.

4 And Jesus answered himsayingIt is writtenThat man shallnot live by bread alonebut by every word of God.

5 And the deviltaking him up into an high mountainshewedunto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

6 And the devil said unto himAll this power will I give thee and the glory of themfor that is delivered unto meand towhomsoever I will I give it.

7 If thou therefore wilt worship meall shall be thine.

8 And Jesus answered and said unto himGet thee behind meSatanfor it is writtenThou shalt worship the Lord thy Godand him only shalt thou serve.

9 And he brought him to Jerusalemand set him on a pinnacle ofthe templeand said unto himIf thou be the Son of Godcastthyself down from hence

10 For it is writtenHe shall give his angels charge over theeto keep thee

11 And in their hands they shall bear thee uplest at any timethou dash thy foot against a stone.

12 And Jesus answering said unto himIt is saidThou shalt nottempt the Lord thy God.

13 And when the devil had ended all the temptationhe departedfrom him for a season.

14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee and there went out a fame of him through all the region roundabout.

15 And he taught in their synagoguesbeing glorified of all.

16 And he came to Nazarethwhere he had been brought upandashis custom washe went into the synagogue on the sabbath dayand stood up for to read.

17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophetEsaias. And when he had opened the bookhe found the placewhere it was written

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon mebecause he hath anointed meto preach the gospel to the poorhe hath sent me to heal thebrokenheartedto preach deliverance to the captivesandrecovering of sight to the blindto set at liberty them thatare bruised

19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

20 And he closed the bookand he gave it again to the minister and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in thesynagogue were fastened on him.

21 And he began to say unto themThis day is this scripturefulfilled in your ears.

22 And all bare him witnessand wondered at the gracious wordswhich proceeded out of his mouth. And they saidIs not thisJoseph s son

23 And he said unto themYe will surely say unto me thisproverbPhysicianheal thyselfwhatsoever we have hearddone in Capernaumdo also here in thy country.

24 And he saidVerily I say unto youNo prophet is accepted inhis own country.

25 But I tell you of a truthmany widows were in Israel in thedays of Eliaswhen the heaven was shut up three years and sixmonthswhen great famine was throughout all the land

26 But unto none of them was Elias sentsave unto Sareptaacity of Sidonunto a woman that was a widow.

27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus theprophetand none of them was cleansedsaving Naaman theSyrian.

28 And all they in the synagoguewhen they heard these things were filled with wrath

29 And rose upand thrust him out of the cityand led him untothe brow of the hill whereon their city was builtthat theymight cast him down headlong.

30 But he passing through the midst of them went his way

31 And came down to Capernauma city of Galileeand taught themon the sabbath days.

32 And they were astonished at his doctrinefor his word waswith power.

33 And in the synagogue there was a manwhich had a spirit of anunclean deviland cried out with a loud voice

34 SayingLet us alonewhat have we to do with theethou Jesusof Nazarethart thou come to destroy usI know thee who thouartthe Holy One of God.

35 And Jesus rebuked himsayingHold thy peaceand come out ofhim. And when the devil had thrown him in the midsthe cameout of himand hurt him not.

36 And they were all amazedand spake among themselvessayingWhat a word is thisfor with authority and power hecommandeth the unclean spiritsand they come out.

37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the countryround about.

38 And he arose out of the synagogueand entered into Simon shouse. And Simon s wife s mother was taken with a great fever and they besought him for her.

39 And he stood over herand rebuked the feverand it left her and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.

40 Now when the sun was settingall they that had any sick withdivers diseases brought them unto himand he laid his handson every one of themand healed them.

41 And devils also came out of manycrying outand sayingThouart Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered themnot to speakfor they knew that he was Christ.

42 And when it was dayhe departed and went into a desert placeand the people sought himand came unto himand stayed himthat he should not depart from them.

43 And he said unto themI must preach the kingdom of God toother cities alsofor therefore am I sent.

44 And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
