Luke Chapter 5

1 And it came to passthatas the people pressed upon him tohear the word of Godhe stood by the lake of Gennesaret

2 And saw two ships standing by the lakebut the fishermen weregone out of themand were washing their nets.

3 And he entered into one of the shipswhich was Simon sandprayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land.And he sat downand taught the people out of the ship.

4 Now when he had left speakinghe said unto SimonLaunch outinto the deepand let down your nets for a draught.

5 And Simon answering said unto himMasterwe have toiled allthe nightand have taken nothingnevertheless at thy word Iwill let down the net.

6 And when they had this donethey inclosed a great multitudeof fishesand their net brake.

7 And they beckoned unto their partnerswhich were in the othershipthat they should come and help them. And they cameandfilled both the shipsso that they began to sink.

8 When Simon Peter saw ithe fell down at JesuskneessayingDepart from mefor I am a sinful manO Lord.

9 For he was astonishedand all that were with himat thedraught of the fishes which they had taken

10 And so was also Jamesand Johnthe sons of Zebedeewhichwere partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto SimonFear not from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

11 And when they had brought their ships to landthey forsookalland followed him.

12 And it came to passwhen he was in a certain citybehold aman full of leprosywho seeing Jesus fell on his faceandbesought himsayingLordif thou wiltthou canst make meclean.

13 And he put forth his handand touched himsayingI willbethou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.

14 And he charged him to tell no manbut goand shew thyself tothe priestand offer for thy cleansingaccording as Mosescommandedfor a testimony unto them.

15 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of himandgreat multitudes came together to hearand to be healed byhim of their infirmities.

16 And he withdrew himself into the wildernessand prayed.

17 And it came to pass on a certain dayas he was teachingthatthere were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting bywhichwere come out of every town of Galileeand JudaeaandJerusalemand the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

18 Andbeholdmen brought in a bed a man which was taken with apalsyand they sought means to bring him inand to lay himbefore him.

19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring himin because of the multitudethey went upon the housetopandlet him down through the tiling with his couch into the midstbefore Jesus.

20 And when he saw their faithhe said unto himManthy sinsare forgiven thee.

21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reasonsayingWhois this which speaketh blasphemiesWho can forgive sinsbutGod alone

22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughtshe answering saidunto themWhat reason ye in your hearts

23 Whether is easierto sayThy sins be forgiven theeor tosayRise up and walk

24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earthto forgive sins he said unto the sick of the palsy I sayunto theeAriseand take up thy couchand go into thinehouse.

25 And immediately he rose up before themand took up thatwhereon he layand departed to his own houseglorifying God.

26 And they were all amazedand they glorified Godand werefilled with fearsayingWe have seen strange things to day.

27 And after these things he went forthand saw a publican named Levisitting at the receipt of customand he said untohimFollow me.

28 And he left allrose upand followed him.

29 And Levi made him a great feast in his own houseand therewas a great company of publicans and of others that sat downwith them.

30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against hisdisciplessayingWhy do ye eat and drink with publicans andsinners

31 And Jesus answering said unto themThey that are whole neednot a physicianbut they that are sick.

32 I came not to call the righteousbut sinners to repentance.

33 And they said unto himWhy do the disciples of John fastoftenand make prayersand likewise the disciples of thePhariseesbut thine eat and drink

34 And he said unto themCan ye make the children of thebridechamber fastwhile the bridegroom is with them

35 But the days will comewhen the bridegroom shall be takenaway from themand then shall they fast in those days.

36 And he spake also a parable unto themNo man putteth a pieceof a new garment upon an oldif otherwisethen both the newmaketh a rentand the piece that was taken out of the newagreeth not with the old.

37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottleselse the newwine will burst the bottlesand be spilledand the bottlesshall perish.

38 But new wine must be put into new bottlesand both arepreserved.

39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth newfor he saithThe old is better.
