And he sent them to preach the kingdom of Godand to heal thesick.
And he said unto themTake nothing for your journeyneitherstavesnor scripneither breadneither moneyneither havetwo coats apiece.
And whatsoever house ye enter intothere abideand thencedepart.
And whosoever will not receive youwhen ye go out of thatcityshake off the very dust from your feet for a testimonyagainst them.
And they departedand went through the townspreaching thegospeland healing every where.
Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by himandhe was perplexedbecause that it was said of somethat Johnwas risen from the dead
And of somethat Elias had appearedand of othersthat oneof the old prophets was risen again.
And Herod saidJohn have I beheadedbut who is thisof whomI hear such thingsAnd he desired to see him.
And the apostleswhen they were returnedtold him all thatthey had done. And he took themand went aside privately intoa desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.
And the peoplewhen they knew itfollowed himand hereceived themand spake unto them of the kingdom of Godandhealed them that had need of healing.
And when the day began to wear awaythen came the twelveandsaid unto himSend the multitude awaythat they may go intothe towns and country round aboutand lodgeand getvictualsfor we are here in a desert place.
But he said unto themGive ye them to eat. And they saidWehave no more but five loaves and two fishesexcept we shouldgo and buy meat for all this people.
For they were about five thousand men. And he said to hisdisciplesMake them sit down by fifties in a company.
And they did soand made them all sit down.
Then he took the five loaves and the two fishesand lookingup to heavenhe blessed themand brakeand gave to thedisciples to set before the multitude.
And they did eatand were all filledand there was taken upof fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.
And it came to passas he was alone prayinghis discipleswere with himand he asked themsayingWhom say the peoplethat I am
They answering saidJohn the Baptistbut some sayEliasand others saythat one of the old prophets is risen again.
He said unto themBut whom say ye that I amPeter answeringsaidThe Christ of God.
And he straitly charged themand commanded them to tell noman that thing
SayingThe Son of man must suffer many thingsand berejected of the elders and chief priests and scribesand beslainand be raised the third day.
And he said to them allIf any man will come after melethim deny himselfand take up his cross dailyand follow me.
For whosoever will save his life shall lose itbut whosoeverwill lose his life for my sakethe same shall save it.
For what is a man advantagedif he gain the whole worldandlose himselfor be cast away
For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my wordsof himshall the Son of man be ashamedwhen he shall come in his owngloryand in his Father sand of the holy angels.
But I tell you of a truththere be some standing herewhichshall not taste of deathtill they see the kingdom of God.
And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings he took Peter and John and Jamesand went up into a mountainto pray.
And as he prayedthe fashion of his countenance was alteredand his raiment was white and glistering.
Andbeholdthere talked with him two menwhich were Mosesand Elias
Who appeared in gloryand spake of his decease which heshould accomplish at Jerusalem.
But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep and when they were awakethey saw his gloryand the two menthat stood with him.
And it came to passas they departed from himPeter saidunto JesusMasterit is good for us to be hereand let usmake three tabernaclesone for theeand one for Mosesandone for Eliasnot knowing what he said.
While he thus spakethere came a cloudand overshadowedthemand they feared as they entered into the cloud.
And there came a voice out of the cloudsayingThis is mybeloved Sonhear him.
And when the voice was pastJesus was found alone. And theykept it closeand told no man in those days any of thosethings which they had seen.
And it came to passthat on the next daywhen they were comedown from the hillmuch people met him.
Andbeholda man of the company cried outsayingMasterIbeseech theelook upon my sonfor he is mine only child.
Andloa spirit taketh himand he suddenly crieth outandit teareth him that he foameth againand bruising him hardlydeparteth from him.
And I besought thy disciples to cast him outand they couldnot.
And Jesus answering saidO faithless and perverse generationhow long shall I be with youand suffer youBring thy sonhither.
And as he was yet a comingthe devil threw him downand tarehim. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spiritand healed thechildand delivered him again to his father.
And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But whilethey wondered every one at all things which Jesus didhe saidunto his disciples
Let these sayings sink down into your earsfor the Son of manshall be delivered into the hands of men.
But they understood not this sayingand it was hid from them that they perceived it notand they feared to ask him of thatsaying.
Then there arose a reasoning among themwhich of them shouldbe greatest.
And Jesusperceiving the thought of their hearttook achildand set him by him
And said unto themWhosoever shall receive this child in myname receiveth meand whosoever shall receive me receivethhim that sent mefor he that is least among you allthe sameshall be great.
And John answered and saidMasterwe saw one casting outdevils in thy nameand we forbad himbecause he followethnot with us.
And Jesus said unto himForbid him notfor he that is notagainst us is for us.
And it came to passwhen the time was come that he should bereceived uphe stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem
And sent messengers before his faceand they wentandentered into a village of the Samaritansto make ready forhim.
And they did not receive himbecause his face was as thoughhe would go to Jerusalem.
And when his disciples James and John saw thisthey said Lordwilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven and consume themeven as Elias did
But he turnedand rebuked themand saidYe know not whatmanner of spirit ye are of.
For the Son of man is not come to destroy men s livesbut tosave them. And they went to another village.
And it came to passthatas they went in the waya certainman said unto himLordI will follow thee whithersoever thougoest.
And Jesus said unto himFoxes have holesand birds of theair have nestsbut the Son of man hath not where to lay hishead.
And he said unto anotherFollow me. But he saidLordsufferme first to go and bury my father.
Jesus said unto himLet the dead bury their deadbut go thouand preach the kingdom of God.
And another also saidLordI will follow theebut let mefirst go bid them farewellwhich are at home at my house.
And Jesus said unto himNo manhaving put his hand to theploughand looking backis fit for the kingdom of God.
