And it came to passas he went into the house of one of thechief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath daythat theywatched him.

Andbeholdthere was a certain man before him which had thedropsy.

And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and PhariseessayingIs it lawful to heal on the sabbath day

And they held their peace. And he took himand healed himand let him go

And answered themsayingWhich of you shall have an ass oran ox fallen into a pitand will not straightway pull him outon the sabbath day

And they could not answer him again to these things.

And he put forth a parable to those which were biddenwhen hemarked how they chose out the chief roomssaying unto them.

When thou art bidden of any man to a weddingsit not down inthe highest roomlest a more honourable man than thou bebidden of him

And he that bade thee and him come and say to theeGive thisman placeand thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.

But when thou art biddengo and sit down in the lowest room that when he that bade thee comethhe may say unto thee Friendgo up higherthen shalt thou have worship in thepresence of them that sit at meat with thee.

For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abasedand he thathumbleth himself shall be exalted.

Then said he also to him that bade himWhen thou makest adinner or a suppercall not thy friendsnor thy brethren neither thy kinsmennor thy rich neighbourslest they alsobid thee againand a recompence be made thee.

But when thou makest a feastcall the poorthe maimedthelamethe blind

And thou shalt be blessedfor they cannot recompense theefor thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard thesethingshe said unto himBlessed is he that shall eat breadin the kingdom of God.

Then said he unto himA certain man made a great supperandbade many

And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that werebiddenComefor all things are now ready.

And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The firstsaid unto himI have bought a piece of groundand I mustneeds go and see itI pray thee have me excused.

And another saidI have bought five yoke of oxenand I go toprove themI pray thee have me excused.

And another saidI have married a wifeand therefore Icannot come.

So that servant cameand shewed his lord these things. Thenthe master of the house being angry said to his servantGoout quickly into the streets and lanes of the cityand bringin hither the poorand the maimedand the haltand theblind.

And the servant saidLordit is done as thou hast commanded and yet there is room.

And the lord said unto the servantGo out into the highwaysand hedgesand compel them to come inthat my house may befilled.

For I say unto youThat none of those men which were biddenshall taste of my supper.

And there went great multitudes with himand he turnedandsaid unto them

If any man come to meand hate not his fatherand mother and wifeand childrenand brethrenand sistersyeaandhis own life alsohe cannot be my disciple.

And whosoever doth not bear his crossand come after me cannot be my disciple.

For which of youintending to build a towersitteth not downfirstand counteth the costwhether he have sufficient tofinish it

Lest haplyafter he hath laid the foundationand is not ableto finish itall that behold it begin to mock him

SayingThis man began to buildand was not able to finish.

Or what kinggoing to make war against another kingsittethnot down firstand consulteth whether he be able with tenthousand to meet him that cometh against him with twentythousand

Or elsewhile the other is yet a great way offhe sendeth anambassageand desireth conditions of peace.

So likewisewhosoever he be of you that forsaketh not allthat he hathhe cannot be my disciple.

Salt is goodbut if the salt have lost his savourwherewithshall it be seasoned
