Luke Chapter 22

1 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nighwhich is calledthe Passover.

2 And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might killhimfor they feared the people.

3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariotbeing of thenumber of the twelve.

4 And he went his wayand communed with the chief priests andcaptainshow he might betray him unto them.

5 And they were gladand covenanted to give him money.

6 And he promisedand sought opportunity to betray him untothem in the absence of the multitude.

7 Then came the day of unleavened breadwhen the passover mustbe killed.

8 And he sent Peter and JohnsayingGo and prepare us thepassoverthat we may eat.

9 And they said unto himWhere wilt thou that we prepare

10 And he said unto themBeholdwhen ye are entered into thecitythere shall a man meet youbearing a pitcher of waterfollow him into the house where he entereth in.

11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the houseThe Mastersaith unto theeWhere is the guestchamberwhere I shall eatthe passover with my disciples

12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnishedthere makeready.

13 And they wentand found as he had said unto themand theymade ready the passover.

14 And when the hour was comehe sat downand the twelveapostles with him.

15 And he said unto themWith desire I have desired to eat thispassover with you before I suffer

16 For I say unto youI will not any more eat thereofuntil itbe fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

17 And he took the cupand gave thanksand saidTake thisanddivide it among yourselves

18 For I say unto youI will not drink of the fruit of the vineuntil the kingdom of God shall come.

19 And he took breadand gave thanksand brake itand gaveunto themsayingThis is my body which is given for you this do in remembrance of me.

20 Likewise also the cup after suppersayingThis cup is thenew testament in my bloodwhich is shed for you.

21 Butbeholdthe hand of him that betrayeth me is with me onthe table.

22 And truly the Son of man goethas it was determinedbut woeunto that man by whom he is betrayed

23 And they began to enquire among themselveswhich of them itwas that should do this thing.

24 And there was also a strife among themwhich of them shouldbe accounted the greatest.

25 And he said unto themThe kings of the Gentiles exerciselordship over themand they that exercise authority upon themare called benefactors.

26 But ye shall not be sobut he that is greatest among youlethim be as the youngerand he that is chiefas he that dothserve.

27 For whether is greaterhe that sitteth at meator he thatservethis not he that sitteth at meatbut I am among you ashe that serveth.

28 Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.

29 And I appoint unto you a kingdomas my Father hath appointedunto me

30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdomand siton thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31 And the Lord saidSimonSimonbeholdSatan hath desired tohave youthat he may sift you as wheat

32 But I have prayed for theethat thy faith fail notand whenthou art convertedstrengthen thy brethren.

33 And he said unto himLordI am ready to go with theebothinto prisonand to death.

34 And he saidI tell theePeterthe cock shall not crow thisdaybefore that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

35 And he said unto themWhen I sent you without purseandscripand shoeslacked ye any thingAnd they saidNothing.

36 Then said he unto themBut nowhe that hath a purselet himtake itand likewise his scripand he that hath no swordlet him sell his garmentand buy one.

37 For I say unto youthat this that is written must yet beaccomplished in meAnd he was reckoned among thetransgressorsfor the things concerning me have an end.

38 And they saidLordbeholdhere are two swords. And he saidunto themIt is enough.

39 And he came outand wentas he was wontto the mount ofOlivesand his disciples also followed him.

40 And when he was at the placehe said unto themPray that yeenter not into temptation.

41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone s castandkneeled downand prayed

42 SayingFatherif thou be willingremove this cup from menevertheless not my willbut thinebe done.

43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heavenstrengthening him.

44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestlyand his sweatwas as it were great drops of blood falling down to theground.

45 And when he rose up from prayerand was come to hisdiscipleshe found them sleeping for sorrow

46 And said unto themWhy sleep yerise and praylest ye enterinto temptation.

47 And while he yet spakebehold a multitudeand he that wascalled Judasone of the twelvewent before themand drewnear unto Jesus to kiss him.

48 But Jesus said unto himJudasbetrayest thou the Son of manwith a kiss

49 When they which were about him saw what would followtheysaid unto himLordshall we smite with the sword

50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priestand cutoff his right ear.

51 And Jesus answered and saidSuffer ye thus far. And hetouched his earand healed him.

52 Then Jesus said unto the chief priestsand captains of thetempleand the elderswhich were come to himBe ye comeoutas against a thiefwith swords and staves

53 When I was daily with you in the templeye stretched forth nohands against mebut this is your hourand the power ofdarkness.

54 Then took they himand led himand brought him into the highpriest s house. And Peter followed afar off.

55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hallandwere set down togetherPeter sat down among them.

56 But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fireandearnestly looked upon himand saidThis man was also withhim.

57 And he denied himsayingWomanI know him not.

58 And after a little while another saw himand saidThou artalso of them. And Peter saidManI am not.

59 And about the space of one hour after another confidentlyaffirmedsayingOf a truth this fellow also was with him for he is a Galilaean.

60 And Peter saidManI know not what thou sayest. Andimmediatelywhile he yet spakethe cock crew.

61 And the Lord turnedand looked upon Peter. And Peterremembered the word of the Lordhow he had said unto him Before the cock crowthou shalt deny me thrice.

62 And Peter went outand wept bitterly.

63 And the men that held Jesus mocked himand smote him.

64 And when they had blindfolded himthey struck him on thefaceand asked himsayingProphesywho is it that smotethee

65 And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.

66 And as soon as it was daythe elders of the people and thechief priests and the scribes came togetherand led him intotheir councilsaying

67 Art thou the Christtell us. And he said unto themIf I tellyouye will not believe

68 And if I also ask youye will not answer menor let me go.

69 Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of thepower of God.

70 Then said they allArt thou then the Son of GodAnd he saidunto themYe say that I am.

71 And they saidWhat need we any further witnessfor weourselves have heard of his own mouth.
