Luke Chapter 24

Now upon the first day of the weekvery early in the morning they came unto the sepulchrebringing the spices which theyhad preparedand certain others with them.

And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.

And they entered inand found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

And it came to passas they were much perplexed thereabout beholdtwo men stood by them in shining garments

And as they were afraidand bowed down their faces to theearththey said unto themWhy seek ye the living among thedead

He is not herebut is risenremember how he spake unto youwhen he was yet in Galilee

SayingThe Son of man must be delivered into the hands ofsinful menand be crucifiedand the third day rise again.

And they remembered his words

And returned from the sepulchreand told all these thingsunto the elevenand to all the rest.

It was Mary Magdalene and Joannaand Mary the mother ofJamesand other women that were with themwhich told thesethings unto the apostles.

And their words seemed to them as idle talesand theybelieved them not.

Then arose Peterand ran unto the sepulchreand stoopingdownhe beheld the linen clothes laid by themselvesanddepartedwondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

Andbeholdtwo of them went that same day to a villagecalled Emmauswhich was from Jerusalem about threescorefurlongs.

And they talked together of all these things which hadhappened.

And it came to passthatwhile they communed together andreasonedJesus himself drew nearand went with them.

But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.

And he said unto themWhat manner of communications are thesethat ye have one to anotheras ye walkand are sad

And the one of themwhose name was Cleopasanswering saidunto himArt thou only a stranger in Jerusalemand hast notknown the things which are come to pass there in these days

And he said unto themWhat thingsAnd they said unto himConcerning Jesus of Nazarethwhich was a prophet mighty indeed and word before God and all the people

And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to becondemned to deathand have crucified him.

But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemedIsraeland beside all thisto day is the third day sincethese things were done.

Yeaand certain women also of our company made us astonished which were early at the sepulchre

And when they found not his bodythey camesayingthat theyhad also seen a vision of angelswhich said that he wasalive.

And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchreand found it even so as the women had saidbut him they sawnot.

Then he said unto themO foolsand slow of heart to believeall that the prophets have spoken

Ought not Christ to have suffered these thingsand to enterinto his glory

And beginning at Moses and all the prophetshe expounded untothem in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

And they drew nigh unto the villagewhither they wentand hemade as though he would have gone further.

But they constrained himsayingAbide with usfor it istoward eveningand the day is far spent. And he went in totarry with them.

And it came to passas he sat at meat with themhe tookbreadand blessed itand brakeand gave to them.

And their eyes were openedand they knew himand he vanishedout of their sight.

And they said one to anotherDid not our heart burn withinuswhile he talked with us by the wayand while he opened tous the scriptures

And they rose up the same hourand returned to Jerusalemandfound the eleven gathered togetherand them that were withthem

SayingThe Lord is risen indeedand hath appeared to Simon.

And they told what things were done in the wayand how he wasknown of them in breaking of bread.

And as they thus spakeJesus himself stood in the midst ofthemand saith unto themPeace be unto you.

But they were terrified and affrightedand supposed that theyhad seen a spirit.

And he said unto themWhy are ye troubledand why dothoughts arise in your hearts

Behold my hands and my feetthat it is I myselfhandle me and seefor a spirit hath not flesh and bonesas ye see mehave.

And when he had thus spokenhe shewed them his hands and hisfeet.

And while they yet believed not for joyand wonderedhe saidunto themHave ye here any meat

And they gave him a piece of a broiled fishand of anhoneycomb.

And he took itand did eat before them.

And he said unto themThese are the words which I spake untoyouwhile I was yet with youthat all things must befulfilledwhich were written in the law of Mosesand in theprophetsand in the psalmsconcerning me.

Then opened he their understandingthat they might understandthe scriptures

And said unto themThus it is writtenand thus it behovedChrist to sufferand to rise from the dead the third day

And that repentance and remission of sins should be preachedin his name among all nationsbeginning at Jerusalem.

And ye are witnesses of these things.

AndbeholdI send the promise of my Father upon youbuttarry ye in the city of Jerusalemuntil ye be endued withpower from on high.

And he led them out as far as to Bethanyand he lifted up hishandsand blessed them.

And it came to passwhile he blessed themhe was parted fromthemand carried up into heaven.
