John Chapter 1

1 In the beginning was the Wordand the Word was with Godandthe Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by himand without him was not any thingmade that was made.

4 In him was lifeand the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darknessand the darknesscomprehended it not.

6 There was a man sent from Godwhose name was John.

7 The same came for a witnessto bear witness of the Lightthat all men through him might believe.

8 He was not that Lightbut was sent to bear witness of thatLight.

9 That was the true Lightwhich lighteth every man that comethinto the world.

10 He was in the worldand the world was made by himand theworld knew him not.

11 He came unto his ownand his own received him not.

12 But as many as received himto them gave he power to becomethe sons of Godeven to them that believe on his name

13 Which were bornnot of bloodnor of the will of the fleshnor of the will of manbut of God.

14 And the Word was made fleshand dwelt among us and webeheld his glorythe glory as of the only begotten of theFather full of grace and truth.

15 John bare witness of himand criedsayingThis was he ofwhom I spakeHe that cometh after me is preferred before mefor he was before me.

16 And of his fulness have all we receivedand grace for grace.

17 For the law was given by Mosesbut grace and truth came byJesus Christ.

18 No man hath seen God at any timethe only begotten Sonwhichis in the bosom of the Fatherhe hath declared him.

19 And this is the record of Johnwhen the Jews sent priests andLevites from Jerusalem to ask himWho art thou

20 And he confessedand denied notbut confessedI am not theChrist.

21 And they asked himWhat thenArt thou EliasAnd he saithIam not. Art thou that prophetAnd he answeredNo.

22 Then said they unto himWho art thouthat we may give ananswer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself

23 He saidI am the voice of one crying in the wildernessMakestraight the way of the Lordas said the prophet Esaias.

24 And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.

25 And they asked himand said unto himWhy baptizest thouthenif thou be not that Christnor Eliasneither thatprophet

26 John answered themsayingI baptize with waterbut therestandeth one among youwhom ye know not

27 He it iswho coming after me is preferred before mewhoseshoe s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordanwhere Johnwas baptizing.

29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto himand saith Behold the Lamb of Godwhich taketh away the sin of theworld.

30 This is he of whom I saidAfter me cometh a man which ispreferred before mefor he was before me.

31 And I knew him notbut that he should be made manifest toIsraeltherefore am I come baptizing with water.

32 And John bare recordsayingI saw the Spirit descending fromheaven like a doveand it abode upon him.

33 And I knew him notbut he that sent me to baptize with water the same said unto meUpon whom thou shalt see the Spiritdescendingand remaining on himthe same is he whichbaptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

34 And I sawand bare record that this is the Son of God.

35 Again the next day after John stoodand two of his disciples

36 And looking upon Jesus as he walkedhe saithBehold the Lambof God

37 And the two disciples heard him speakand they followedJesus.

38 Then Jesus turnedand saw them followingand saith untothemWhat seek yeThey said unto himRabbi which is tosaybeing interpretedMaster where dwellest thou

39 He saith unto themCome and see. They came and saw where hedweltand abode with him that dayfor it was about the tenthhour.

40 One of the two which heard John speakand followed himwasAndrewSimon Peter s brother.

41 He first findeth his own brother Simonand saith unto himWehave found the Messiaswhich isbeing interpretedtheChrist.

42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld himhesaidThou art Simon the son of Jonathou shalt be calledCephaswhich is by interpretationA stone.

43 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galileeandfindeth Philipand saith unto himFollow me.

44 Now Philip was of Bethsaidathe city of Andrew and Peter.

45 Philip findeth Nathanaeland saith unto himWe have foundhimof whom Moses in the lawand the prophetsdid write Jesus of Nazareththe son of Joseph.

46 And Nathanael said unto himCan there any good thing come outof NazarethPhilip saith unto himCome and see.

47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to himand saith of himBehold anIsraelite indeedin whom is no guile

48 Nathanael saith unto himWhence knowest thou meJesusanswered and said unto himBefore that Philip called thee when thou wast under the fig treeI saw thee.

49 Nathanael answered and saith unto himRabbithou art the Sonof Godthou art the King of Israel.

50 Jesus answered and said unto himBecause I said unto theeIsaw thee under the fig treebelievest thouthou shalt seegreater things than these.

51 And he saith unto himVerilyverilyI say unto youHereafter ye shall see heaven openand the angels of Godascending and descending upon the Son of man.
