And as they spake unto the peoplethe priestsand thecaptain of the templeand the Sadduceescame upon them

Being grieved that they taught the peopleand preachedthrough Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

And they laid hands on themand put them in hold unto thenext dayfor it was now eventide.

Howbeit many of them which heard the word believedand thenumber of the men was about five thousand.

And it came to pass on the morrowthat their rulersandeldersand scribes

And Annas the high priestand Caiaphasand JohnandAlexanderand as many as were of the kindred of the highpriestwere gathered together at Jerusalem.

And when they had set them in the midstthey askedBy whatpoweror by what namehave ye done this

Then Peterfilled with the Holy Ghostsaid unto themYerulers of the peopleand elders of Israel

If we this day be examined of the good deed done to theimpotent manby what means he is made whole

Be it known unto you alland to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazarethwhom yecrucifiedwhom God raised from the deadeven by him doththis man stand here before you whole.

This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders which is become the head of the corner.

Neither is there salvation in any otherfor there is noneother name under heaven given among menwhereby we must besaved.

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and Johnandperceived that they were unlearned and ignorant mentheymarvelledand they took knowledge of themthat they had beenwith Jesus.

And beholding the man which was healed standing with themthey could say nothing against it.

But when they had commanded them to go aside out of thecouncilthey conferred among themselves

SayingWhat shall we do to these menfor that indeed anotable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all themthat dwell in Jerusalemand we cannot deny it.

But that it spread no further among the peoplelet usstraitly threaten themthat they speak henceforth to no manin this name.

And they called themand commanded them not to speak at allnor teach in the name of Jesus.

But Peter and John answered and said unto themWhether it beright in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than untoGodjudge ye.

For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen andheard.

So when they had further threatened themthey let them go finding nothing how they might punish thembecause of thepeoplefor all men glorified God for that which was done.

For the man was above forty years oldon whom this miracle ofhealing was shewed.

And being let gothey went to their own companyand reportedall that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.

And when they heard thatthey lifted up their voice to Godwith one accordand saidLordthou art Godwhich hast madeheavenand earthand the seaand all that in them is

Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast saidWhy did theheathen rageand the people imagine vain things

The kings of the earth stood upand the rulers were gatheredtogether against the Lordand against his Christ.

For of a truth against thy holy child Jesuswhom thou hastanointedboth Herodand Pontius Pilatewith the Gentiles and the people of Israelwere gathered together

For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determinedbefore to be done.

And nowLordbehold their threateningsand grant unto thyservantsthat with all boldness they may speak thy word

By stretching forth thine hand to healand that signs andwonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

And when they had prayedthe place was shaken where they wereassembled togetherand they were all filled with the HolyGhostand they spake the word of God with boldness.

And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart andof one soulneither said any of them that ought of the thingswhich he possessed was his ownbut they had all thingscommon.

And with great power gave the apostles witness of theresurrection of the Lord Jesusand great grace was upon themall.

Neither was there any among them that lackedfor as many aswere possessors of lands or houses sold themand brought theprices of the things that were sold
