But Peter saidAnaniaswhy hath Satan filled thine heart tolie to the Holy Ghostand to keep back part of the price ofthe land

Whiles it remainedwas it not thine ownand after it wassoldwas it not in thine own powerwhy hast thou conceivedthis thing in thine heartthou hast not lied unto menbutunto God.

And Ananias hearing these words fell downand gave up theghostand great fear came on all them that heard thesethings.

And the young men arosewound him upand carried him outand buried him.

And it was about the space of three hours afterwhen hiswifenot knowing what was donecame in.

And Peter answered unto herTell me whether ye sold the landfor so muchAnd she saidYeafor so much.

Then Peter said unto herHow is it that ye have agreedtogether to tempt the Spirit of the Lordbeholdthe feet ofthem which have buried thy husband are at the doorand shallcarry thee out.

Then fell she down straightway at his feetand yielded up theghostand the young men came inand found her deadand carrying her forthburied her by her husband.

And great fear came upon all the churchand upon as many asheard these things.

And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonderswrought among the people and they were all with one accordin Solomon s porch.

And of the rest durst no man join himself to thembut thepeople magnified them.

And believers were the more added to the Lordmultitudes bothof men and women.

Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streetsand laid them on beds and couchesthat at the least theshadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

There came also a multitude out of the cities round about untoJerusalembringing sick folksand them which were vexed withunclean spiritsand they were healed every one.

Then the high priest rose upand all they that were with him which is the sect of the Sadducees and were filled withindignation

And laid their hands on the apostlesand put them in thecommon prison.

But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doorsand brought them forthand said

Gostand and speak in the temple to the people all the wordsof this life.

And when they heard thatthey entered into the temple earlyin the morningand taught. But the high priest cameand theythat were with himand called the council togetherand allthe senate of the children of Israeland sent to the prisonto have them brought.

But when the officers cameand found them not in the prison they returned and told

SayingThe prison truly found we shut with all safetyandthe keepers standing without before the doorsbut when we hadopenedwe found no man within.

Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and thechief priests heard these thingsthey doubted of themwhereunto this would grow.

Then came one and told themsayingBeholdthe men whom yeput in prison are standing in the templeand teaching thepeople.

Then went the captain with the officersand brought themwithout violencefor they feared the peoplelest they shouldhave been stoned.

And when they had brought themthey set them before thecounciland the high priest asked them

SayingDid not we straitly command you that ye should notteach in this nameandbeholdye have filled Jerusalem withyour doctrineand intend to bring this man s blood upon us.

Then Peter and the other apostles answered and saidWe oughtto obey God rather than men.

The God of our fathers raised up Jesuswhom ye slew andhanged on a tree.

Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and aSaviourfor to give repentance to Israeland forgiveness ofsins.

And we are his witnesses of these thingsand so is also theHoly Ghostwhom God hath given to them that obey him.

When they heard thatthey were cut to the heartand tookcounsel to slay them.

Then stood there up one in the councila PhariseenamedGamaliela doctor of the lawhad in reputation among all thepeopleand commanded to put the apostles forth a littlespace

And said unto themYe men of Israeltake heed to yourselveswhat ye intend to do as touching these men.

For before these days rose up Theudasboasting himself to besomebodyto whom a number of menabout four hundredjoinedthemselveswho was slainand allas many as obeyed him were scatteredand brought to nought.

After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of thetaxingand drew away much people after himhe also perishedand alleven as many as obeyed himwere dispersed.

And now I say unto youRefrain from these menand let themalonefor if this counsel or this work be of menit willcome to nought

But if it be of Godye cannot overthrow itlest haply ye befound even to fight against God.

And to him they agreedand when they had called the apostles and beaten themthey commanded that they should not speak inthe name of Jesusand let them go.

And they departed from the presence of the councilrejoicingthat they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
