Acts Chapter 6
1 And in those dayswhen the number of the disciples wasmultipliedthere arose a murmuring of the Grecians againstthe Hebrewsbecause their widows were neglected in the dailyministration.
2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples untothemand saidIt is not reason that we should leave the wordof Godand serve tables.
3 Whereforebrethrenlook ye out among you seven men of honestreportfull of the Holy Ghost and wisdomwhom we may appointover this business.
4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayerand to theministry of the word.
5 And the saying pleased the whole multitudeand they choseStephena man full of faith and of the Holy GhostandPhilipand Prochorusand Nicanorand Timonand Parmenas and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch
6 Whom they set before the apostlesand when they had prayed they laid their hands on them.
7 And the word of God increasedand the number of the disciplesmultiplied in Jerusalem greatlyand a great company of thepriests were obedient to the faith.
8 And Stephenfull of faith and powerdid great wonders andmiracles among the people.
9 Then there arose certain of the synagoguewhich is called thesynagogue of the Libertinesand Cyreniansand Alexandrians and of them of Cilicia and of Asiadisputing with Stephen.
10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit bywhich he spake.
11 Then they suborned menwhich saidWe have heard him speakblasphemous words against Mosesand against God.
12 And they stirred up the peopleand the eldersand thescribesand came upon himand caught himand brought him tothe council
13 And set up false witnesseswhich saidThis man ceaseth notto speak blasphemous words against this holy placeand thelaw
14 For we have heard him saythat this Jesus of Nazareth shalldestroy this placeand shall change the customs which Mosesdelivered us.
15 And all that sat in the councillooking stedfastly on him saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.
