Acts Chapter 8

1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time therewas a great persecution against the church which was atJerusalemand they were all scattered abroad throughout theregions of Judaea and Samariaexcept the apostles.

2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burialand made greatlamentation over him.

3 As for Saulhe made havock of the churchentering into everyhouseand haling men and women committed them to prison.

4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every wherepreaching the word.

5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samariaand preachedChrist unto them.

6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those thingswhich Philip spakehearing and seeing the miracles which hedid.

7 For unclean spiritscrying with loud voicecame out of manythat were possessed with themand many taken with palsiesand that were lamewere healed.

8 And there was great joy in that city.

9 But there was a certain mancalled Simonwhich beforetime inthe same city used sorceryand bewitched the people ofSamariagiving out that himself was some great one

10 To whom they all gave heedfrom the least to the greatestsayingThis man is the great power of God.

11 And to him they had regardbecause that of long time he hadbewitched them with sorceries.

12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerningthe kingdom of Godand the name of Jesus Christthey werebaptizedboth men and women.

13 Then Simon himself believed alsoand when he was baptizedhecontinued with Philipand wonderedbeholding the miraclesand signs which were done.

14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard thatSamaria had received the word of Godthey sent unto themPeter and John

15 Whowhen they were come downprayed for themthat theymight receive the Holy Ghost

16For as yet he was fallen upon none of themonly they werebaptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

17 Then laid they their hands on themand they received the HolyGhost.

18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostleshands the Holy Ghost was givenhe offered them money

19 SayingGive me also this powerthat on whomsoever I layhandshe may receive the Holy Ghost.

20 But Peter said unto himThy money perish with theebecausethou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased withmoney.

21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matterfor thy heartis not right in the sight of God.

22 Repent therefore of this thy wickednessand pray Godifperhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.

23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitternessand inthe bond of iniquity.

24 Then answered Simonand saidPray ye to the LORD for methat none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.

25 And theywhen they had testified and preached the word of theLordreturned to Jerusalemand preached the gospel in manyvillages of the Samaritans.

26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto PhilipsayingAriseand go toward the south unto the way that goeth down fromJerusalem unto Gazawhich is desert.

27 And he arose and wentandbeholda man of Ethiopiaaneunuch of great authority under Candace queen of theEthiopianswho had the charge of all her treasureand hadcome to Jerusalem for to worship

28 Was returningand sitting in his chariot read Esaias theprophet.

29 Then the Spirit said unto PhilipGo nearand join thyself tothis chariot.

30 And Philip ran thither to himand heard him read the prophetEsaiasand saidUnderstandest thou what thou readest

31 And he saidHow can Iexcept some man should guide meAndhe desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

32 The place of the scripture which he read was thisHe was ledas a sheep to the slaughterand like a lamb dumb before hisshearerso opened he not his mouth

33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken awayand who shalldeclare his generationfor his life is taken from the earth.

34 And the eunuch answered Philipand saidI pray theeof whomspeaketh the prophet thisof himselfor of some other man

35 Then Philip opened his mouthand began at the same scriptureand preached unto him Jesus.

36 And as they went on their waythey came unto a certain waterand the eunuch saidSeehere is waterwhat doth hinder meto be baptized

37 And Philip saidIf thou believest with all thine heartthoumayest. And he answered and saidI believe that Jesus Christis the Son of God.

38 And he commanded the chariot to stand stilland they wentdown both into the waterboth Philip and the eunuchand hebaptized him.

39 And when they were come up out of the waterthe Spirit of theLord caught away Philipthat the eunuch saw him no moreandhe went on his way rejoicing.

40 But Philip was found at Azotusand passing through hepreached in all the citiestill he came to Caesarea.
