Acts Chapter 9

1 And Saulyet breathing out threatenings and slaughter againstthe disciples of the Lordwent unto the high priest

2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagoguesthatif he found any of this waywhether they were men or women he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.

3 And as he journeyedhe came near Damascusand suddenly thereshined round about him a light from heaven

4 And he fell to the earthand heard a voice saying unto himSaulSaulwhy persecutest thou me

5 And he saidWho art thouLordAnd the Lord saidI am Jesuswhom thou persecutestit is hard for thee to kick against thepricks.

6 And he trembling and astonished saidLordwhat wilt thouhave me to doAnd the Lord said unto himAriseand go intothe cityand it shall be told thee what thou must do.

7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechlesshearinga voicebut seeing no man.

8 And Saul arose from the earthand when his eyes were opened he saw no manbut they led him by the handand brought himinto Damascus.

9 And he was three days without sightand neither did eat nordrink.

10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascusnamed Ananiasand to him said the Lord in a visionAnanias. And he saidBeholdI am hereLord.

11 And the Lord said unto himAriseand go into the streetwhich is called Straightand enquire in the house of Judasfor one called Saulof Tarsusforbeholdhe prayeth

12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming inandputting his hand on himthat he might receive his sight.

13 Then Ananias answeredLordI have heard by many of this manhow much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem

14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind allthat call on thy name.

15 But the Lord said unto himGo thy wayfor he is a chosenvessel unto meto bear my name before the Gentilesandkingsand the children of Israel

16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for myname s sake.

17 And Ananias went his wayand entered into the houseandputting his hands on him saidBrother Saulthe LordevenJesusthat appeared unto thee in the way as thou camesthathsent methat thou mightest receive thy sightand be filledwith the Holy Ghost.

18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had beenscalesand he received sight forthwithand aroseand wasbaptized.

19 And when he had received meathe was strengthened. Then wasSaul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.

20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagoguesthat heis the Son of God.

21 But all that heard him were amazedand saidIs not this hethat destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem and came hither for that intentthat he might bring thembound unto the chief priests

22 But Saul increased the more in strengthand confounded theJews which dwelt at Damascusproving that this is veryChrist.

23 And after that many days were fulfilledthe Jews took counselto kill him

24 But their laying await was known of Saul. And they watched thegates day and night to kill him.

25 Then the disciples took him by nightand let him down by thewall in a basket.

26 And when Saul was come to Jerusalemhe assayed to joinhimself to the disciplesbut they were all afraid of himandbelieved not that he was a disciple.

27 But Barnabas took himand brought him to the apostlesanddeclared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the wayandthat he had spoken to himand how he had preached boldly atDamascus in the name of Jesus.

28 And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem.

29 And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesusanddisputed against the Greciansbut they went about to slayhim.

30 Which when the brethren knewthey brought him down toCaesareaand sent him forth to Tarsus.

31 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galileeand Samariaand were edifiedand walking in the fear of theLordand in the comfort of the Holy Ghostwere multiplied.

32 And it came to passas Peter passed throughout all quartershe came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda.

33 And there he found a certain man named Aeneaswhich had kepthis bed eight yearsand was sick of the palsy.

34 And Peter said unto himAeneasJesus Christ maketh theewholeariseand make thy bed. And he arose immediately.

35 And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw himand turned tothe Lord.

36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabithawhichby interpretation is called Dorcasthis woman was full ofgood works and almsdeeds which she did.

37 And it came to pass in those daysthat she was sickanddiedwhom when they had washedthey laid her in an upperchamber.

38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppaand the discipleshad heard that Peter was therethey sent unto him two mendesiring him that he would not delay to come to them.

39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was cometheybrought him into the upper chamberand all the widows stoodby him weepingand shewing the coats and garments whichDorcas madewhile she was with them.

40 But Peter put them all forthand kneeled downand prayed and turning him to the body saidTabithaarise. And sheopened her eyesand when she saw Petershe sat up.

41 And he gave her his handand lifted her upand when he hadcalled the saints and widowspresented her alive.

42 And it was known throughout all Joppaand many believed inthe Lord.

43 And it came to passthat he tarried many days in Joppa withone Simon a tanner.
