Abort Mission

The space around me felt cold harsh, I was launching through the air! I was about to exit the earth, and begin orbit. Blood rushed through my body, when suddenly, red lights were flashing everywhere!

“Abort! Abort!” Mission Control screamed.

“I don’t know how! I didn’t learn this in training camp!” I yelled back, panickedly.

A giant asteroid hit the nose of my rocket! Space junk flew everywhere! My rocket split in half and I was flying around in empty space! My oxygen tank was low. I screamed but no sound came out. I knew there was no point in even trying, after all, there was no sound in space. Actually, that’s a lie. There are some sounds in space, but very few.

Suddenly, I was falling! Down, down, down I went! And then, I landed on something soft. How could this be? I thought. There was very little gravity in space, you can’t fall! I tried getting up, but when I did, I realized that the landing was not only soft, but it was also...springy? Like a mattress, no, it was a mattress! There were posters of my favorite singers on the wall. There were quotes from inspiring people like Albert Einstein, Galileo Galilei, and Nicolaus Copernicus. But most importantly, a giant picture of Valentina Tereshkova. She was the first female astronaut, well cosmonaut, in the world. I was back in my bedroom. I guess it was all just a bad dream.

Let me backtrack a little. Hi! My name is Ember. Just Ember. I used to be Ember Rodriguez. But my parents got divorced. Now I’m Ember Willows. But I’m not sure i’m either of them. My friends call me ERW. But I don’t know who I want to be. I don’t know if I want to be Ember Rodriguez or Ember Willows. But I do know one thing, I want to be an astronaut!
