Are you scared of me?

Chapter 5 - Are you scared of me?

“I didn’t mean to punch you…” He said as he put two plasters on my cheek.

“Why did you really do it…”

“I was mad at you and I just got out of control.” He explained. He winced as I stuck a plaster on his brow.

“You really scared me. I know I shouldn’t have done any of the things I did...but…”

“I know...I felt really bad. As soon as I knocked you down I just started to panic and I was really confused on what to do. I--”

“Hey. I forgive you. I’m not mad at you.”

“Well I’m mad at myself.” He sighed as I closed the first aid box and placed it on the window sill.

“Are you scared of me?” Mason asked worriedly.

I thought for a while. I bit my lip, thinking hard. I’m not scared am I? No….I’m not. It was just an accident and besides he regrets punching me. He was looking at me and soon he realised. He ran his hands through his hair and walked away. I stood still confused. What is wrong with me? I wanted to go up to him and tell him that I’m not scared of him but...I just stood still. I’m not scared of him...I’m just scared he will hurt me again, I mean, he already told me he hates me and he punched me.

He was sitting on the other side of the room. I closed my eyes not able to look at the state of him. He looked so mad. He kept rubbing his cheeks. He always does that when he’s scared or really worried.

I walked up to him slowly. He looked at me and closed his eyes. “You might as well stay away from me.”

I rushed straight up to him and hugged him tight. “I’m not scared of you. I’m scared of myself. I’m scared that I will annoy you so much that you’ll just break and...hurt me…”

“I promise you I won’t...I will never ever hurt you again…” He whispered. I pulled out of the hug. “Let’s not talk about this again, yeah?” I said.

“Definitely.” He agreed.

He sighed. Then he looked at my cheek. He looked sad.

“What’s up?”

“It’s nothing.” He lied. I didn’t want to push it. I shrugged my shoulders.

He got up and bit his lip.. “I know you might think I’m mad but…” He walked over to the window. “We need to jump off.”

I looked at him thinking he was joking. He just looked at me seriously.

“Please tell me you’re joking….”

“I wish I was…”

“We’ve only got a day left. Let’s just--

“I can’t do another day.” He said. “I don’t trust myself.”

“Stop. Stop being so hard on yourself. I won’t annoy you okay?”

“I….I know….” He said and sat on the desk.

“Hey. Listen to me.” I said sitting next to him. “I don’t care if you hit me again, that's a lie, but I will forgive you..because I love you and I know you’d never mean to hurt me…”

He sat silently for a while. “You don’t mean you?”

“Look at my eyes. There’s your answer.” I said as he stared into my eyes curiously.

“I promise I won’t hurt you…”

“Don’t promise that...I know you won’t be able to keep it. Don’t promise me. Just promise me you won’t do it deliberately.”

“I promise.” He said. “Pinky swear.”

We pinky swore. Then he hugged me. I closed my eyes and hugged him back.

He still looked doubtful.

“Will you stop over stressing.” I said ruffling his hair.

“Hey!” He laughed trying to run away.

“You think you’re faster than me? Watch me!” I laughed trying to chase him, he was a bit faster than me, but I won't admit it to him.

After running around and failing to catch him. I sat on the cold floor out of breath.

“That was quite a workout.” I heaved.

“Tell me about it.” Mason smiled. “This place is starting to get boring.”

I looked at the lift. “Let’s see if it works.” I said walking towards it. I pressed the button and the lift doors opened. I looked at Mason, shocked for a moment.

“Finally!” I squealed jumping up and down.

“I’m going to grab some sweets.” Mason said.

"Hey, we're broke. I can't even get up in the morning to work. Either way, it's all free." He said going into the kitchen. He came back with his pockets full.

"You have got to be kidding me. Right?"

"Stop looking at me like a criminal. We're both criminals we destroyed Uncle Haris's building and---"

"Just take it."

“Fine. Lets go.” I said beaming. We stood inside the lift all hyped. “Finally we can escape out of this nightmare.” I mumbled.
